I had something odd happen to me the other day

I was hopping a swim jig with my gen3 revo stx the other day and when set the hook on a bass the the spool spun almost like it was in free spool. what it turned out to be was the drag was loose. however, I had had just set the drag to d**n near max pressure. I tested it like I always do before I start fishing.

this is the second time I habe set the hook and had the spool spin, followed by me crankin and not getting any line back.

I have never had this issue with my gen2 stx

on a ppsitive note I did boat the fish and she weighed 3lbs 5oz lol

Braid spinning on the spool because there's no backing?

i reported that same issue here with my 3G STX and so have a few others (do a search here for "the new revos hate me"-thread  or you can search at TT for a thread called "revo G3 issues"). i sent mine back to abu-garcia and they sent it back to me with a note that said the fix was "adjusted clutch plate".

actually, i think having abu fix the reel is a better option than a new reel. given the number of other people who have had this problem, a new reel might not be any better but, if they fix it, you are assured that they corrected the problem. just my two cents.

I'm not sure what "adjusted clutch plate" is referring to, but if the clutch is involved the pinion gear is not seating onto the spool pin to properly drive the spool. This could give the illusion of slipping drag I suppose. I would expect that you would likely hear some noise in this case. ABU reels are way over greased many times. This may contribute to sticky clutch later but probably not right out of the box. Anything new should perform right out of the box and ought to be returned asap if it doesn't. If problems develope over time it's probably nothing a good cleaning and proper lube won't cure.

Sure you do Mike.... :Victory:

You know it is Abu speek for d**n I don't know either.... :eyebrows:

Willing to bet it was heavy drag setup, low stretch lines, and weak pinion yoke springs. The pinion will take just so much back pressure on hookset and it jumps the engagement pin.

Sounds like you put pressure on the thumb bar. It happens. You need to watch where your thumb is!

no...ive been fishin low pro baitcasters for 15 years and I have never done that

plus the fact that it wont retrieve line nor is there any drag immediately after tells me there is a problem

this reel has seen maybe ten days of use so far

I just got another Revo S, the older silver version...for $99...and it's sweet as can be. Not sure why more people aren't seeking these out. The only other Abu I'd want is the STX but the one with the gold accents, 2012? That reel looks sweet. Saw them on Ebay for $199...not sure they command 100 more than the S though....maybe they do!

Anyone have the STX that I'm speaking of and want to sell it?

Ha! I hear that! I tell you, I've been so impressed with the S...I'm sure that STX is very sweet. I may get one but I'm getting some Chronarchs so I'm going in that direction for now. I've always been into Curados and Citicas so I'm sure I'll be pleased. Still keeping my Revo S though..might get another at the price I got it for. Worth every dime!
