Numbing My Gum

What can I use to numb my gum? Its at the back of my mouth. The gum will grow over my rear molar then hurt like hell. Its like it grows over it then recedes. Its all dang swollen and is killing me. Orajel ain't doing a dang thing for it. It feels like someone punched me in the side of the face. I got a skittle for before I go to bed. I'm just wondering is their anything other than orajel or benadryll (sp)? I'm supposed to be going to the dentist at sometime tomorrow afternoon, or morning.

Whiskey mouthwash, just swallow it instead of spitting. Is your dentist an oral surgeon? I had the same problem and they removed the offending gums

I don't know if he is or not. Ive been between dentist for the past five years. He is a family friends brother. I do remember being told about cutting gums out last time I went. How long of a lay up is it usually?

I'll try the whisky tomorrow night. The advils are working, and the skittles just kicked in. I don't feel a dang thing now. Its now nighty night time.

I had a wicked bad toothache last year. For a couple days I would take a swig of whiskey and let it sit on the spot. Repeat as neccesary, plus people will start driving you everywhere. It worked wonders.

I had a friend who swore by crushing up aspirin in a little bit of water to make a paste and put it on the affected area.  His claim was it went straight to the area and relieved the pain almost instantly.

 

never tried it but i can't imagine it would taste to good.....so stick with the Whiskey treatment mentioned above

FWIW you aren't supposed to put the Orajel right on the affected area, rather where the gum meets the cheek directly above or below depending on whether its the upper or lower gum that's hurting, or at the joint off the upper and lower jaw if its a back molar. The reason is because that's where the nerve is. Think about where the dentist puts the novacaine the don't inject at the tooth rather where the gum meets the jaw above or below the affected area. I had a dentist tell me that when I was complaining about a tooth that needed a root canal, when I finally put the gel where it wwas supposed to go it helped.

FWIW you aren't supposed to put the Orajel right on the affected area, rather where the gum meets the cheek directly above or below depending on whether its the upper or lower gum that's hurting, or at the joint off the upper and lower jaw if its a back molar. Eugenol or Clove oil is the best thing that you can apply over the counter, unless you have an infection brewing back there and then most likely nothing will touch it other than an antibiotic.  If you get that infection it is call Pericoronitis.  You really have two choices to solve the problem.  If it is a wisdom tooth- lose it.  If it is just your second molar, then a triangle wedge taken out of the tissue will fix it in no time and only maybe be tender for a day or two.  Usually it is a surgeon who does it.  if you dentist is a little into the hi-tech side of things they may have a soft tissue laser and that can be done in less than 5 minutes with minimal discomfort and about a day of healing time. 

 

NEVER....NEVER....NEVER.....crush and aspirin and place it in the area.  That is the quickest way to get a chemical burn and create necrotic tissue and a much larger problem......DID I MENTION NEVER!

 

If you insist on taking a pain medication, Motrin/ Advil/ Ibuprofen are the best for dental pain.  They are anti-inflammatory and swelling is your main problem with what you have going on.

Never knew that about the tylenol. Then again I'm not big on powdering pills either. Too much can go wrong with that method.

As for wisdom teeth they cut/ripped/chiseled those out 16 years ago. That was the worst two weeks of my life.

I'm definitely gonna get some oil of clove tonight. I also gov see my new dentist at 4:00 today. So hopefully he can help me out.

As for pain pills I took the skittles i had last night and that got me feeling even better. I honestly don't like hydrocodone that much. It gets me wired up. I prefer percaset or something with a bit more umpfff to it, but I made do with what I had to work with.

Well, Mr dentist fixed me. A piece of popcorn part had gotten stuck under the gum. He poked, prodded, vacuumed, blasted with air, and then deflated the swollen part. Feels better now. He gave me some kind of antiseptic mouth wash that will kill any and everything. Also he is putting me in touch with a gum surgeon to triangle my gums.

I go back for a cleaning and inspection on Monday.
