bighed Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Had a nice little bite this morning. Overcast and windy, water temps in upper 60's. caught them shallow off clay banks using pop-r's, swimbaits, and shakey heads. 3 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted May 15, 2013 Super User Posted May 15, 2013 Very nice color on that fish. Did u get to weigh it? Quote
bighed Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 No, didn't take the time. It was a typical fork slot fish. Short, fat, and bad attitude. A fair guess would be about 5 pounds. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 15, 2013 Super User Posted May 15, 2013 That is a mighty fine looking bass. Good length to girth ratio and beautiful coloration. Congrats! Jeff Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 Nice looking fish, good job. Quote
PABASS Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I would love to caught those all day long, nice fish. Did you get her on the pop-r? Quote

No, that was a shakey head fish. 3/16 oz spot remover with a 7" Aaron's magic roboworm. The fish are up on these clay banks waiting for schools of spawning shad to come by. Quote
bighed Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Here's a pop r fish Chad caught. I was looking right at the bait when she smoked it! Note the red clay banks in both the pictures. It seems the shad like to spawn on these. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 Nice slot fish. With the water level about 4 1/2' low it should be easy to spot those conditions. The birds will show you where too. I'll be picking on the Fork bass next week. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 Thanks, I am very familiar with Fork during this time of year. My best tournament fish there is 10# 5 oz. I took this picture a couple of years ago, when the water level was lower, of a skeg broken off in a stump. Quote
