I have a mojo bass rod, the wacky worm rod, with a quantum escalade reel, spooled with 8 lbs. floro. I am trying to increase my casting distance, would spooling it with say 15 pound braid with a 8 or 10 pound floro leader be a good idea. Any suggestions on what to spool up to increase distance will be taking inconsideration.

Hardly ever will braid help you cast farther..are you using the rod for nothing but wacky rigging or for worm fishing in general? In all honesty I've always thrown finesse/trick worms on spinning reels spooled with 8-10lb mono..hard to beat the versatility of spinning rods with light lures

Nonsense. You WILL cast further with the smaller diameter braid than with equal diameter mono or fluoro. To the OP..............I use the same rod, have a 2500 size Shimano reel on it, spooled with 15lb braid and use 8,10, or 12 lb. fluoro leaders. I can cast a 4" senko half way across the lake on it, switch to a 5", or add the weight of a whacky jig, and I just about spool it to the backing. Spray the braid down with KVD L&L or Real Magic and it can be done with just a flick of the wrist.

Line diameter does play a part in casting distance.  If you don't think so, try casting some 65# braid that has seen better days, then try some 8# mono on the same rod.

Thanks I will have to give this a try, also do you use brightly colored braid like the yellow or red power pro makes.

It's all about line diameter and memory. Most floro has more line memory than braid, causing more friction when casting and loss of distance. That being said braid of equal diameter to floro should cast a little farther. As for colored braids I think they are fine unless the water is fairly clear. I fish for smallies in lake Michigan and sometimes they wont touch anything with any color braid unless I use a  5 foot floro leader although largies aren't quite as picky

Jtesch, where in Lake Michigan do u fish? Shoreline or boat? I'm in chicago and desperate to find fishing spots near my house. I normally have to travel over an hour to get to any decent fishing locales. I understand if u don't want to devulge a favorite location. Thanks!
