This may not be the right forum but I need help getting rid of chipmunks in my yard. I live on a lake and we have always had a lot of them but this year it's terrible. I have been killing them with a shotgun when I see them but now I need a WMD. I have tried poisons, repellents, and everything else I can find on the web but the just keep coming. I have dogs so I really don't want to put out anything they might get into. Anybody got a way to get rid of these things?

Id say get yourself a good barn cat, one born on an actual farm and taught how to hunt by their mom. My cats are that way and kill em all the time. What kind of dogs do you have? i know my lab, viesla and jack russel kill one every now and then.

A feist dog will eradicate them. If your real adventurous a ferret will gladly eradicate them. Very efficient little things they are. Barn cat would work too.

If your not up to using animals to remove animals. And are serious about a WMD then I suggest gas and a match. Dump it in the hole light it up and FOOOOOSH!!!!!! Chipmunk Flambé.

Seriously though I honestly have no clue other than a shotgun or using a animal to exterminate them.

Get a farm cat. Simple, cheap, effective. I have had a couple cats for years around the house, they keep the rodents to a minimum, now we are cat-less as our last one died last week. My grandfather doesn't have a cat, and is infested with chipmunks, I have never seen one around my house. I am convinced the cats keep them away. I won't be cat-less for long.

Try a rat trap with corn & peanut butter. Just set the traps where the dogs are not.

I used to take a BB gun and spot/stalk them when I lived with my parents way back. Was a great way to improve on your hunting skills and it also kept them from overrunning the place.

Always a fun way to get outdoors and waste an afternoon.

Also, if you live on a lake, do you have a dock with some resident bass that like to be fed?

Live trap 'em and feed 'em to the sharks. ;)

Ok since you live by the water you are more than 50% qualified. You could build/install an owl nesting box, they would take care of the problem for you for sure. Also they are pretty cool, at least I think so. If you have bird feeders out they are most likely going after the bird seed, you can stop feeding the birds and the chipmunks would most likely leave on their own. If you do have bird feeders out and you want to continue feeding them, you can add some cayenne pepper to the seed this will deter the chipmunks from eating the seed but will not have any effect on the birds. The other way is if you are feeding them to get a large bucket fill it half way with water and get a small piece of wood and lay some seed on it. Chipmunks will jump to get the seed and fall in the water not able to get out will eventually drown. As you can see I am waging my own war with these F&*k things.

the owl thing might work well any kind of predatory bird like a hawk would work lol or you could shoot them and eat them...free food and the meat is very lean lol
