Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted April 20, 2013 Super User Posted April 20, 2013 You could also view it this way. At least as far as customization goes. That is if that is your thing. I have 2 glock 17s that are heavily customized. Both have after market barrels. Yet that is where the similarities stop. Also one is a 17L. Slight difference in length still the same handgun. The 17L has a custom slide which is engraved as well as a engraved barrel. The end cap on the slide has been changed out as has the trigger. Also the frame has been urban digi break camo coated. The regular 17 has had the slide chromed and has been custom engraved. The slide end has been replaced as well as the trigger. It has two different after market barrels one threaded one not. The mag ends have been replaced, and the frame has been dipped in skull and smoke paint. Both were purchased new for around 500 dollars. Between the two I have over 3 grand invested in them. The value of the two are now significantly higher than what has been invested in them. In other words, the accessories and work you put into the weapon will determine what you get out of them. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 21, 2013 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 21, 2013 In your price range I'd look at BCM. Get a good quality rifle first, you can always add or change parts later. I'm still waiting on my tstone custom arms to arrive. I guess there is a production backlog. Quote
tstone Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Sure is, waiting on an upper. Have a complete lower, mags, and 500 rounds of .223 for ya, just no upper yet. Quote
derekxec Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 ive got a smith and wesson M&P sport .223 and its great very accurate and ive got about 4k rounds through it so far...it cycles the crappiest and the best ammo no problem and i havent had any problems with it and for $600 that i paid for it cant go wrong lol....i put a scope good for 200 yards and a bipod on it and no problem hitting 200 yards at the range also if you want an automatic just get a slide fire lol almost the same thing but you dont need a class 3 and you dont need to pay 15-20k+ for a real auto Quote
unageo09 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 ive got a smith and wesson S&P sport .223 and its great very accurate and ive got about 4k rounds through it so far...it cycles the crappiest and the best ammo no problem and i havent had any problems with it and for $600 that i paid for it cant go wrong lol....i put a scope good for 200 yards and a bipod on it and no problem hitting 200 yards at the range also if you want an automatic just get a slide fire lol almost the same thing but you dont need a class 3 and you dont need to pay 15-20k+ for a real auto I shot one of those today. It was the first time I have ever shot an AR so I don't have anything to compare it too, but the guy that owns it said it was a good gun and he didn't have any problems out of it. Quote
derekxec Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 yeah it just doesnt have the bump style forward assist but it has a place to use your thumb...but ive used it 0 times so its just less weight that i have to carry haha and sorry that should be M&P not S&P lol Quote
HuskyKMA Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 You can't go wrong with a Colt 6920, they run $1100 for the base model or $1200 for a 6920MP with Magpul accessories. Pretty much the "standard" for a Mil-spec AR-15. Smith & Wesson M&P-15 rifles are also very nice and popular. Personally I have one BCM rifle that I love and am building another. They are more difficult to get your hands on however. Noveske also make a really nice rifle but they are more expensive, starting at around $1500 and up. DPMS, Rock River Arms, and Bushmaster are all lower level AR-15 brands. They may be fine for your needs, but they lag behind the others in quality. Quote
