Nodda4me Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Is it possible to make a reviews forum with the subforums Product Reviews - Rods - Reels - Plastics - Hard Baits So the members of Bass Resource can write about their new purchases. I think this will help the clutter a little. Just a suggestion! It would also be nice to read reviews of lures by the BR members with some nice pictures. Although I think that's what the Fishing Reports has been for. Quote
joetomlee Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I think that's an awesome idea. One of those DUH!! (why hasn't already been created) ideas. I know I spend a small fortune on fishing product every year and that would be an enormous help to me. Quote
Nodda4me Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 There has been like 5 posts (including one being my own) in the rod forums in the past 2 days asking what spinning rod to buy. 3 were for senko rods. I think it will be a really good addition to this website. Quote
Sundance Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I think its a great idea although you might add a misc. sub forum for stuff like tackle bags and other accessories. Quote
TrapperJ Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I would love to see this happen. I say to even lessen the clutter lets say someone reviews an Abu Veritas Rod, so if this is a the first review on said rod start a new thread, then lets say Ole Jimbo decides to review a Abu Veritas as well i say he just makes another post in the same thread instead of starting a new thread. so that way if you want to know all about Abu Veritas Rods you have one thread to go to and read multiple reviews on it with discussions all in one spot. 1 Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah, that is a very good idea. However, having been a member of these forums for years, one thing is abundantly clear. There is an encyclopedia of information that has been posted on these forums about all manner of tackle, rods, reels, etc. All one has to do is use the "Search" box at the top right of every forum. All the information that anyone could want is available, but VERY few people use it. In addition, there is an additional ton of information available in the Fishing Articles section of this site, but few people choose to use this resource either. So, we are left with a non-stop barrage of "What is the best best" questions. To be perfectly honest, unless a new product is being discussed, most of us Mods no longer bother to respond to such questions, because the information is so easily attainable on this site. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. 1. What is the best rod for (fill in the subject.) Answer: The one that feels good in your hands and fits within your budget. 2. What is the best reel for (fill in the subject.) Answer: See Above. Unfortunately, this post will be superseded by more recent posts and will eventually scroll down the page into oblivion; and the barrage will continue. 1 Quote
fowlskies Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Its a good idea, but trying to keep it to the product at hand can be hard. The problem that'll keep coming up is i.e. the Lews and Shimano posse's saying everything else sucks compared to them and downplaying the reviewers post that leads to a war of brand loyalty. Don't believe me??? Go ask about a specific reel and what other people think about it and see what it leads to. Quote

jignfule Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 GREAT IDEA- Limit it to people that have actually used the product and maybe include a misc. section for items such fishing shoes, fishing glasses etc. a misc. forum that you could share positve or negitve experiences with items apart from the regular rod, reel, bait, boats. I've been recommending it to loads of people. ie Type "jig rod", "drop shot rod", "chatterbait" and you'll have tons to read. once you get comfortable you'll get creative ie wind blown shore, oxygen, subsurface, milfoil, night fishing etc. you'll get some great reads. unsure how ur veritas matches up against another rod? type "veritas vs" for 2 pages of reading material. TrapperJ Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Im sure we could set some rules and guide lines on reviews. In today's age of easy access photos I think u should at least have to post a pic and say write your forum name on a piece of paper by it. This would prove you at least owned the product and if your going to take time to do that you'll at least put some thought into your review. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 I don't think it's a good idea, BR probably has more daily activity than any site I've been on, at times the clutter can be overwhelming. IMO reviews given by non professionals usually wind being a list of people's favorites and not a true review. Even a BPS review by users is something I don't put a lot of stock in, and I'm sure it's some of the same people on this site. Some of the real experts on here like Big-O seldom review products or so it seems to me, you wanna catch a big bass who better to ask than him? As mentioned there is a plethora of information already here and a wealth of solid information on the internet. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Reviews forum? I'd be inclined to contribute something that's not very worthwhile...Oh wait...I already do that Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Reviews fall under the category and scope of an article. We already have a section for that: www.bassresource.com/tackle-reviews/ If you want to submit a review, here are the submission guidelines: http://www.bassresource.com/fish/article_submission.html Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 The idea is a good one and I lean toward what Long Mike said. The "search" box on the top right of this page is a great tool. When I begin my research for any equipment or tackle, that is the first place I begin. My opinion is that new comers get so excited to join in on topics that they fail to get familiarized with BR and all the tools it can offer. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 i dont think this site needs a reviews section. everything already gets reviewed in the tackle and rod/reel/etc forums. sometimes you may need to go beyond the first page of a given forum to find what youre looking for, and as mentioned the search feature can help you find what youre looking for in most all instances. sometimes i think people just need to look around a little more before starting their thread, because lots of times there is already an active thread on a given product on the front page of that forum...
