Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 15, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 15, 2013 Thought I had a DD bass today. This big gal just stopped a 6" Mattlures trout and actually fought like a big bass for awhile and could have had me fooled for even longer had she not jumped. Quite the handful to land without gloves and a bass net that I was trying not to destroy. Just a little shy of 15 pounds, forgot to get the tape measure out unfortunately. My puppy Cassidee was not impressed at all. Actually she was hiding in the back of the boat for most of the fight. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2013 I thought it was going to be a state record bass. I set the hook hard enough I drove the big single hook on my Mattlures trout up through her bottom jaw and out the top jaw, pinning her mouth shut. Anyone that knows anything about big gar know how hard their mouths are and how much force it takes to do that, I was pretty lucky I did that because it probably saved my swimbait. Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Wow. We've got those here in VA, never caught one myself. Ever tried using a rope lure? Longnose Gar are pretty hard to catch on a hook. Especially larger ones. That thing is a beast. Out here bow hunting for gar is pretty popular. I must admit that it makes me kind of sad (most people just throw the carcasses on the bank.) Gar are such cool and inquisitive fish. They are almost reminiscent of a freshwater dolphin. 1 Quote
GeorgiaBassBros Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Always have the stupid things biting my line when im catfishing. Feel the tug, get the line tight and SNAP. very frustrating, but they are a cool fish Quote
