Hey guys. I'm mounting my 581 Humminbird at the console but I will need to swivel this unit 180 degrees when I fish up front. I'm mounting it on a flat surface to the right of my windshield.

I need suggestions on the type and brand of mount to best serve my needs.

Thanks

Yep, RAM mounts are the best for this.

Why can't you just spin the Humminbird mount around? Does it need to be elevated to clear the windshield?

Yes. The width of the unit and it sitting so low cause the problem. There is only a limited amount of flat surface area and it is tight to the windshield and dash. Either a slight angle out or and elevated mount would help me.

Those Ram mounts are the bees knees. Would I need "Light Use" or "Rugged Use"? There's about $20 difference in prices but they look the same.

Light duty for the small screen unit should be ok

10-4. Looks like $35 worth spending. Double ball-joints so looks like I can adjust it to my pleasing.

I had the exact same issue. I ended up turning the Humminbird mount backwards so it would turn away from the windshield and not towards it. The wider side of the the screen swings out over the side of the boat which eliminates an external mount.
