prjavelin Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 3 empty trips. all ive caught is tilapia and a catfish. it sucks for sure. I talked to a local guy that is very good at fishing my home lake and he is a good tournament fisherman also. I also been talking with the guy that sold me my boat. He is also in a club and fishes in tournaments. So both tell me that i should fish texas rigged lizards and worms. I was catching fish on spinnerbaits and I caught one in a carolina rig. the tournament guy told me that i should use 10# ultra clear line and small worms when the bite is slow and that braid is worthless in our lakes in PR. im more of a power fisherman, what other finesse presentations can I employ when fishing slow bite days??? Why is braid such a big turnoff for my local fish?? Ohh he has 3 videos that you can check. he uses a texas rig technique that ive never seen and its extremely effective!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMrtxruG_5I Quote
aharris Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Only thing I can figure about the braid is maybe the water clarity. Even if the water is clear, I still use braid on my spinning rods. Personally, I use 10lb braid with a 7lb flour leader. You can always dry a dropshot and a shakey head when the bite is tough. Good luck! Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 Can't be a power-fisherman if that's not what the fish demand. Well, you can but you won't catch much. In clear water and/or heavily pressured fish, braid can spook the fish. If you must, use a mono or flourocarbon leader. A s l o w l y fished dropshot with light mono or flouro line may work well for you. 1 Quote

Anything from 6-8 lb Fluorocarbon, or a copoly line like P-Line Floroclear or YoZuri Hybrid should help. Then fish slowly. When you think you're slow enough, slow down. Quote
Packard Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Split-shot rig, shakey head, wacky rig, weightless senko or fat ika. Quote
Trever Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 +1 on the Drop shot. Roboworm or the like in Margarita mutilator never fails me. At least to get the smell of skunk off most days. Quote
