Best Fishing Magazine?

Hootibenji you ought to find a book a million store.  They are experts in providing mags for the complete opposite side of the hemisphere.  Here in s.w. Fl. they have walleye guides, musky guides, trout mags, fishing facts (centered around midwest, Ohio area fishing) and all the mags for species thousands of miles away.  But darn if they'ed bother stocking a bass magazine.

I personally love Bassmaster, but i have one thing about it that really irks me, and that is the "Lunker Club"  I love the idea, but i wish the fished were weighed and certified. It makes me so ill to see a picture of a 7lbs Smallie that is really no more than 3lbs. Anybody else notice this??

I agree fishing facts is by far the most informative magazines out there. I have 48 of them. Have read them all.  Would be willing to sell them if anyone’s interested

It seems to me every fishing magazine and TV show are selling something. That includes the tour magazines. They just sell you on the pros that in turn perform their basic function. And that is to sell you stuff.

 

l agree for real fishing info Fishing Facts and the old In-Fisherman were as good as it got. But in some ways I miss the big three of yesteryear even more.  Field & Steam, Outdoor Life, and Sports Afield. Real writers like Gene Hill, Ted Trueblood, Jason Lucas, EdZern, Lefty Kreh, etc. Not really educational as much as entertaining. Their true love of the outdoors always shone through, and they made that love contagious. 

Outdoor writing is a dead art.

After ignoring magazines for many years, I have been getting FLW, Bassmaster, and In-fisherman this year. They're OK.

 

But nothing beats the old In-fisherman from the Lindner era. I have managed to acquire most of the In-Fisherman back issues from before they sold it (missing only about 12 issues). That stuff is gold. Some of the best stuff was compiled into the Largemouth and Smallmouth books, but there's still a lot more in the old magazines that wasn't included.

 

I especially wish there was a book or archive somewhere with all the articles by Ralph Manns published in IF from that era.

Yep, it does. Unfortunately, it's so small it can only hold ten lures  ?

 

Aside from that, I think that it's a decent magazine. I only wish they sent me more!

This is a 4 year old thread and things have changed during this time period. Print fishing magazines have dissapeared off magazine shelves everywhere in California, didgital magazines are more popular but I still like to read paper printed fishing articles. 

Bassmaster and BASS Times are the only national printed fishing magazine/periodical I still get as Life Member, will see if that continues with new ownership? Western Outdoor News still prints a weekly news paper and look forward to receiving it. Bass Angler Magazine is still around as a digital magazine, their printed magazine stopped or became so erratic that I dropped my subscription. 

Times are changing fast in the printed media world.

Bassmaster is best by far, hands down. Bass Angler is good, but the errors make me nuts. FLW is fair. I subscribe to all three for now.

Bass'in used to be fair years ago, it sucks now. It is the most disjointed magazine I've ever seen. Misspellings, poor grammar, etc.

 

I've heard that Bass West magazine is great.

 

I wish that someone would publish a Smallmouth magazine. Kind of all encompassing, river, lake and creek fishing. Boat, kayak, canoe and wading. Heck, fly, casting and spinning .

I canceled Bass West for the same reason as BAM, they were 3 to 4 months behind delivering a paper magazine after the digital online version.

Subscribe to one for a year.  After it ends, pick a different one and subscribe for a year.  After that ends, pick another one and subscribe for a year.  After that, you might be bored with all of them and don't subscribe to any of them.  I currently subscribe to In-Fishermen and Indiana Outdoors because I got each one for around seven dollars.  But, I don't read them anymore.  It's the same stuff over and over and over.  Ugh.

I have to agree.  I rarely find anything that I haven't learned before in magazines.  I have enjoyed a number of them over the years and they can be handy if one is a newbie, or has been away from fishing for a while.

In-Fisherman, mostly because I get it for about a dollar an issue and its a multi-species freshwater magazine located based in Minnesota.

 

Most magazines have about half advertising it seems now.  I used to have Outdoor Life and Field & Stream many years ago but I stopped those because half of them were Cialis or * ads, plus half or more of the articles were solely dedicated to deer hunting.  Even in May they would have an issue titled "pre rut tactics."

B.A.M, and it switches between FLW and Bassmaster, both have good and bad months. In fisherman has gone downhill for me, but I still love to read the Up North with Doc section and buy their species specific magazines. Do miss fishing facts, but the last couple of years were tough reads. Bassin and Crappie used to be great magazines before they were sold, probably my favorites until I fonund B.A.M. The only issue with B.A.M. is that it is sometimes like reading a novel, but at the same time I appreciate the detail that they put into their articles.

I have had Bass Master Magazine for over 30 years, and never once did my name pop up for a free gift.  I check every month, and never once!!!!!!!  Lol  They may be fake gifts!
