Polarkraft05 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I have 10-12 pound fluoro carbon on one of my baitcasters and i only used it 3-5 trips last fall. It has been sitting indoors all winter. When i let some line off the reel the line stays in loops, from the spool of the baicaster. Will this "memory" go away after a few casts come spring time? Should i go ahead and respool to be ready for the season? or will the memory go away with some line conditioner, and casting a few times? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Definitely spray some KVD line conditioner on it. Will help a lot. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Definitely spray some KVD line conditioner on it. Will help a lot. Agree 100% here. I would go a little step further and do a trick I learned from a friend. 1). Tie the like to a tree. 2). Take out as much line as you possibly have by walking away. Keep tension on the line. About a decent cast length is sufficient. 3. Spray the spool with KVD 4. Spray a rag with KVD and put the line in the rag so it gets a good dose of it as you reel it in. 5. Have fun with this part but reel in while you keep the rag there. This eliminates any twists as well as pits a good dose of KVD on the line. If this doesn't work ... Respool. Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 High tensile FC or mono will take a set on a reel spool. Run the line through the rod giudes, tie on a hook and hook something solid, then back away about 75' and put some tension on the rod. This should take out the set. Adding a line conditioner may not relax the memory, it's of a line guessing/ lubricant then stress reliever. I prefer TangleFree for FC line and apply it as I fish on windy days. KVD is applied several hours prior to fishing. Tom Quote
Jig Meister Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 If you have a spare spool just spool the line from one to the other, then use a rag with KVD and respool while conditioning the line. But Honestly, if you just SOAK the spool it will do as good I think. I use KVD on every line I use and it works WONDERS, FC, Copoly, Mono, braid it does it all Quote
