BasskingKeith Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Last year was a travesty for me. Didn't fish as much and haven't been in a while, but it's about that time. One of the most exciting times, if not THE most exciting for me and probably many others. So, I'd like to know who else is anticipating the spawn phenomena and what you're predicting? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 8, 2013 Super User Posted January 8, 2013 They are staging/spawning now. Flipping/pitching is gonna be a big hitter right now. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 8, 2013 Super User Posted January 8, 2013 Man, i cannot imagine spawning bass right now. Here in VA on my local lake the areas that are shady for a good portion of the day have skim ice on top.....although i am sure further up north people have full on ice now. 2 Quote

Upstate NY is just frozen right now. Such a tease. Quote
Orpssab Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Yes you Northern boys have it rough now. That's too bad cuz I caught over 50 bass this past weekend here in South Carolina. Oh well that's the price you pay for living there! Just teasing. Hey Gambler, I'm headed to Lox next week. How's the water level there? Anything different from last year? 1 Quote
0119 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Pre spawn was very good to me and they have been very fat. Found 2 beds last Sunday, hoping to find a good bite this weekend. You up north guys think its great but we are paying for it. Its been in the upper 80's with humidity as thick a butter. We havent seen a winter now for 2 years. It would be nice to fish and not be drenched in sweat, have to wear a buff, gloves and still get things burned off by the doc every 6 months. 1 Quote

I didn't get a chance to get into the flats, but its been good out there. Quote
fstr385 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I had a little male and female about 3lbs bedding right at the foot of my yard/canal in Margate for a few days, but I havent seen em the last few days. All the other water Ive fished lately had almost no visability n havent had the boat out in a few weeks. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 The weather has been beautiful. I've been seeing a few beds lately in the canals, have done no fishing in ponds at all. It's been a little quite this past week, although I seem to manage something decent every day. Yesterday PM started slow, 1 fish about 6# for the first hour, the last 20 minutes I caught 4 or 5. I have been using nothing flukes as topwater, had I been using bottom baits I'm confident I would have greatly improved my production, I just don't enjoy that kind of fishing. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 The magic feeding time lately has been around 1600-1900. Been crushing them with frogs along the banks. If you go out in the middle of the day, you better be pitching into some kind of structure. 1 Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Man you are already missing it! Been finding spawners since late Dec. Check my latest out a couple threads up. 1 Quote
Diggy Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 They are going crazy in a spot I fish in. Schools of huge bass. I lost a 4-5 today at the shore. You seen tons of big fish. You catch a fish and they bring more in. I caught a 3.5, threw him back in, my friend cast his lure out and the bass turns back and eats the jerkbait...mind you the bass was bleeding a bit. Its been nuts. Every fish last sat was fat as all heck Quote

salmicropterus Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 No offense to anyone, but the pitchers and flippers pretty much struck out at the lake today in the FLW. The "sticks" that know the Lake topped out at about 12-14# and most less than 10#. It's litterly like the more you "know" the Lake the worse you are doing. Roland caught one for 1-1/2! Scott had like 9#.. tharpe like 10#. That all tells you something. Whatever anyone thinks is happening with the spawn I think is off. There may be anecdotal reports of beds etc but it hasn't happened yet in any large manner yet, unlike other years by this time of year. Maybe it could turn on with this new moon this weekend but I don't know. Winning bag total will be less than 90 and maybe less than 80 IMO. The Lake is confusing even the best 1 Quote
Diggy Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 All my fish are coming from cranks, topwater or swimming a lizard... topwater seems to be on fire for me right now they are averaging in the 3lb range ,,,had many 2s,3s,4s and one near 5 (4lbs 11oz) I know Ive seen a fish in the water that should be about 7lbs swimming with other 4+s Im going to lake O march 2nd, hopefully I get lucky, 1st time there and 1st fishing on a bass boat Quote
