RyneB Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 i think im the worst tube fisherman on the planet. I have all kinds of sizes, brands, colors, coffee scent, craw sent, salted, unsalted, and i have not caught a single largemouth on a tube. I have some success on my local small river with tubes for smallies, but thats rare. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 The variety of tubes mentioned so far in this thread demonstrates how many effective brands are on the market. I personally have always had the best luck with the finesse-style tubes, like the Powerbait or Venom ones. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted January 11, 2013 Super User Posted January 11, 2013 I don't fish tubes for largemouth much any more, IDK why not, they always produced. Back when I did, I used alot of different ones, Venom, Mizmo, Yum, Strike King, Zoom, and on and on....No one produced better than the other, but I found I liked ones that had a little solid place on the head better than ones that were hollow all the way to the head. Now when I do flip tubes for LMB, it's usually the SK coffee tubes, the 4.5" flipping model does have the solid head. For Smallmouth, I still use tubes often. I have tried lots of those too. My favorties are ones that are only single walled, with a thinner profile. While I have caught fish on the 3.5" SK coffee tubes, they are pretty thick. I took a shine last year to Yamamoto tubes, they are nice thinner profile tubes like I like. The Zoom small tube is also a thin profile tube too, BUT, it has a solid head..........good for T-rigging, but I don't like it for inserting a tube jig head. RyneB Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 How are you rigging them? Every which way? texas rigged, insert weight, weighted tube jig head inserted inside, jig head, shaky head. Pry every way except on a drop shot or as a jig trailer. Im going to go into next season really focusing on tubes. Of all the baits and techniques out there, the tube is the one i have the least confidence and success in. I feel every other part of my fishing is decent, but not when it comes to tubes. After going through old tube articles in bassmaster and doing some studying, it seems that the lighter the weight the better. I usually throw it with a 3/8 oz weight, maybe i should start using a 1/4? Quote
jhoffman Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I fish it exactly like a normal jig but I am not so quick to get it back to the boat as a jig. You definitely want to slow the drop. Try rigging it backwards also for a different look. Color to me means everything, black and blue might be the hottest color ever but if the water is gin clear I come up millhouse on them. Quote
BassinB Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Gambler tubes for pitchin docks and pads and slop. They seem to slide through cover really well especially with a coat of megastrike on em. And Get Bit Baits smallmouth tubes, they come in different cuts and lengths that are hard to find in other brands. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I'm surprised to see no one mention Hooked Up Baits Turbo Tails. They are a small company but they have a decent following among the people I fish with. They were recommended to me by the best the tube fisherman I know and they have not dissapointed. What makes them different is the shorter body and longer tail. I mostly use road kill camo color because that is also what he uses exclusively and he always catches fish. Quote
gripnrip Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I love the Vibra King and SK coffee tubes. BUT man those MEGAstrike tubes look great! Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 Yum Vibra King tube I can't believe I forgot about these...great tubes. I have caught a lot of largemouth with these baits. Quote
