Super User Sam Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 In the General Fishing Section Bass Angler Magazine (BAM) asked what was the first bait you purchased. Although I cannot remember my first bait I did think it would be interesting to read what other "first purchases" you all have made for different products and services. For instance, I remember purchasing my first house for $35,000 in Whitemarsh Township outside of Philly near Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken. I remember my first car. A Volkswagon Beetle that had a hole in the floor and water would come into the car when it rained and I hit a puddle. What are your first purchases that were funny, expensive, life changing, unnecessary (fishing tackle and equipment do not fit into this catagory), with your mom, dad, wife or child, that all the other guys or gals had and you had to have one, too, etc.??? Should be fun and give us old guys a reason to remember!!!! Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 My first bait I've ever bought was Berkely Power Worms in red shad, funny how I refuse to buy anything Berkely anymore because of the poor customer service i've recieved. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 First car 1976 Pontiac Le Mans 4 door loaded to the gills with heat and AM radio (You didn't have heat in that Bug Sam LOL) First "New" car 1988 Dodge Dakota ended up being a lemon First house in River Grove IL which was also my only house that someone drove a car thru First boat 1988 Chris Craft got it for a steal and cost me as much as I paid trying to get the Johnson VRO to work just to disable it. First boat is a 2003 Silver Anniversary edition 18.5 foot Tracker. First dress loafer shoes with tassels after I returned to the States from VietNam. Took me a while to get used to dress loafers with tassels. First G. Loomis rod from Green Top followed by another from American Legacy and a third on the way for Christmas. First BPS rod and reel were picked out for me by Woo Daves at the Richmond BPS store. I was going for the Shimano's but Woo talked me into the BPS products. Still have them and they are great. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 After being married for 5 years we bought our first house in 1993. We drove over to the house first thing after we closed on it. Discovered the keys to the house didn't work. It seems they gave us the keys to the wrong house. We called the agent and luckily they delivered the correct keys in a couple of hours. Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 1st car was a 1967 Ford sation wagon, 289hp with 3 on the column. Was given to me from my grandad in 1983. 1st car I bought was a 1969 Mustang. In fact, I think I still owe my dad $200 payment, hahaha. That was 1985. 1st new car bought on my own was a 1989 Ford F-150 4x4. 1st house was 1992. Think I paid 80k. 1st skateboard was Dogtown, late 70's - early 80's, I forget. 1st beer bought was Old Milwakee. Quickly graduated to Budweiser. 1st "high end" reel was a Abu Garcia 6000c. bought I think 1980-1981?. 1st boat bought was a 24' Aquasport, single screw inboard. NEVER EVER buy a single screw inboard if you like making tight turns. Bought in early 90's. Quote

I bought one of those in 1969, a Mach 1, 4 speed, biggest engine (don't remember the cubes), dropped the exhaust and put side pipes on. Wish i still had it today, worth a real nice buck now. Quote

shootermcbob Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 First fishing purchase....after father-in-law passed ...He used to take my little girl fishing...so I stepped up, took daughter to walmart and purchased a zebco 33 for me, a barbie combo for her, a small Barbie tackle box, and two heddon torpedo lures, two spinnerbaits, and two black jitterbugs. Side note, she lost interest as that summer wore on, and I gained interest....Suffice it to say, but the 5'8" 250 lb squatty linebacker-type (Me) carrying the Barbie tackle box got more than a few weird looks Quote
Jake P Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 First reel- Shimano Spirex. Like holding a cinder block! First rod- Ugly stick of course! First lure- Rat-l-trap. First vehicle- 98 Chevy Blazer bought in 06. water pump went out along with all of my gauges. Cracked heads going 65 on the highway. over 2k to fix if I remember correctly. First vehicle that I purchased on my own- 2005 Dodge ram purchased in 07. black single cab hemi. Flowmaster super 44 exhuast dumped. 2 15" Rockford Fosgate p3's in a custom box built to fit behind the seats. I bet I must have bought 6 or 7 rear view mirror mounts from Autozone because the bass was so loud it would shake my rearview mirror off onto the floorboard. Man I miss that truck. Flatscreen alpine with a remote control and new speakers all the way around. The remote may sound ridiculous but it was actually pretty cool not to have to move your arm to change songs or stations lol. That truck was my life. I worked at an automotive shop doing light mechanical work and state inspections. I cant recall how many weeks I didnt get a paycheck because I was always ordering parts for my truck with the shops account and they would just take it out before cutting, or not, my check. Had it for less than a year before I had to sell it. I put nearly 20k miles on it and a little over 4 grand in 9 months. A little off topic, but am I the only one who has ever loved a vehicle this much? Makes me teary eyed thinking of all the memories that come to mind when I talk about it. Quote

Yes, I loved my 69' stang. I washed her darn near every day. I put many miles on that car, without ever leaving the parking lot. Quote
