Haven’t been back since I caught my 6.9 smallie there. That was 2016

Found some open water in Nickerson today, threw a small jerkbait, ned rig, and finesse jig for an hour from shore. Couple bites on the ned but nothing hooked up, maybe a perch or some panfish?

Contemplating heading back tomorrow with the kayak, see if I can't put something together offshore.

Since the wife worked today and everything NORTH of the Sagamore bridge is locked up I packed up my ice fishing gear and walked onto Hedges pond in Plymouth after lunch.  A couple had some tip ups on the north side when I showed up so I worked the south/south east corner with 3 tip ups and 3 ice rods.  Ice on the southern side was 4 -5".

My coworker came down with his kids, which is a lot more fun than staring at tip ups, so we made a bunch of holes, checked the depth, and tried the best we could to catch something.

We didn't catch anything and the couple there before us pulled up three yellow perch and a SMB while we were there.  They must have had better shiners than we did.

This was my second time ice fishing, so I've still got a lot to figure out.  By 4:30'ish, the northern ice was a little sketchy, so I packed up and left.  A couple seagulls had my shiners for dinner.

Electronics will be going in, they’ll paint the bottom of the boat to protect it while it’s moored and they’ll fill it up with the gas when I take it to Maine this spring.

we fished 8-2 today on big sandy pond. We had a lot of flags, few jig hits. Most flags were  drive byes. They would run the bait and drop. I got 2 nice rainbows. 1 on a tip up, the other jiggin. I missed a nice fish jiggin. Also had a big brookie sniffin my jig my buddies got some nice trout as well. Mostly rainbows, 1 brown. My buddy got a big bow but gut

hooked it, so It’s dinner!

She's a beaut Jig!

Took the kayak down to Cliff today, water temp is about 35-36 degrees. Spent about 6 hours on the water looking for some type of structure or drop off but man that place is featureless with very gradual slopes and lots of the shoreline is still locked up with ice.

Threw a 5/8oz jig dragging it as slow as possible, I think I felt a few rocks the whole day, seems to be all sand/mud.

Committed a good hour to throwing the Vision 110+1 and came up empty. No bites on the 3" paddletail swimbait either. Tried a dropshot, small crankbait, big crankbait, deeper diving jerkbait, swing head with white z-craw jr, and even a ned for a bit.

Ended the day with zero bites. Dang it was hard out there today.?

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know how the bass fishing is in Hopkinton Reservoir?  I fish there quite often with my boys for stocked trout in the spring, but never really tried for bass.  I live a few minutes away, so might try it out once the ice breaks up.

Thanks,

Jason

Did you try a blade bait?

That’s the only thing that works for me when the water temp goes below 40 degrees.

went out testing new swimbaits. Got a small fishing on a jerkbait.  Missed a good fish on on a new KGB benson. Had another whack on the bait. Also had a decent hit on a real prey perch.

I didn't, lost the couple I had last outing. Will have to pick up some more to try next time. I keep hearing good things about them just never gained the confidence to stock up.

Yep, they plain-ole work. I have my best luck with Damiki and Binsky brands.

You should find plenty of tutorial videos on YT.

I always have one tied on during winter.

Best of luck.

I'm in. Usually have Fishing Rhino with me.  Didn't make it one day last yr. Just renewed my Q boat trailer and boat registrations, and as soon as weather turns I'll take the shrink wrap off and have her ready to go.  Will be interesting to see what the guidelines will be and if they will open usual date (3rd Sat in April)  Stay tuned.

The winter blues are hitting me hard lol

Just went online and ordered a fly tying vise, bobbin, and plethora of bucktail hair and swimbait heads.  Was interested in getting into some lure making but the lead ban kinda threw a wrench into those plans so this seems like a good alternative.

From everything I read bucktail jigs kill in cold and clear water so it would seem that they'll be bang on around Plymouth and the Cape right around ice out...ill be sure to have some herring and perch patterns going and maybe some small blacks for smallmouth.

New to fishing bucktails so anyone with any experience I'd love to hear your tips and tricks...both tying and fishing them!

I love tying my own jigs!  I use marabou and rabbit a lot, very natural movement and flair.  I cast out and slow twitch slow steady retrieve. Also fishing it like a jig crawling on bottom works well.  Twitch and pause.

a hair ned rig works well!

Hey Jason, sorry just saw this. I work with a few guys in the area so I’ll ask tomorrow and will get back to you. I can’t imagine the res not having bass in it. ?

I got a lot of unleaded jigs from Sieberts (sponsor here) for a very reasonable price. Give Mike a shout and he can give you the unleaded jig line-up.

You want a killer patter?
Tie in a silicone skirt like you would on a regular bass jig then tie in 2 pieces of zonker strips for trailers. Tie then skin side our and on an angle. They’ll look like craw pincers when your done. ?

I’ll have to start a new thread. Didn’t realize all the positive feedback
