Is that red beach house the one that's right on the water on the east shore about two thirds of the way up the pond?  If so there is a fair sized point that runs directly out from the house.  At times you can do pretty well fishing in seven to eight feet of water around that point.  On occasion, even deeper.

GH does have some fine yellow perch.  You need to be there when the white suckers are spawning.  There are times you can see dozens of them in five or six feet of water.  They also make spawning beds right in front of that red beach house.  They are odd beds.  They are big, and dug out in the back edge, which is usually toward the shore.  They start fanning and get deeper as they work toward the shore.  The bed is probably five or six inches deep with a vertical wall at the back.  The bed is like a ramp getting deeper 'til it finishes at the wall.  They can be three feet across and a couple of feet from front to back.  The bottom looks like a moonscape.

We've dangled baits in front of their noses.  The fish totally ignore the bait.  I have caught one white sucker, but that was in another pond.

Yes, I believe that's the house you're describing. It's a small boat house with a larger one, matching it, just behind. It drops off very quickly there. It takes me roughly 45 minutes to paddle back to the ramp from there too.

Yep, that's it.  The lower house is built on a slab at the water's edge.  Maybe we can hit it up next spring in my Nitro.  From the ramp to the far end in less than two minutes if I run it wide open.  Most of the time I run between 35 and 40 mph, so it might take three minutes.

I fished it from a canoe with a trolling motor for a few years before I got a bass boat.  When I got the bass boat I caught a lot more fish because I spent a lot less time moving around on the pond.  I don't burn more than a couple of gallons per day, if that much, on GH.

That sounds like fun.  I'm planning on selling my 128T kayak (in favor of a Hobie, perhaps), but if nobody buys it I might just figure how to get a trolling motor on it.

This time of year how would you guys go about fishing a small basin. It's pretty tiny and your not allowed kayaks or anything. To get an idea of how small this pond is I could run around it in 5 mins or less. There is a pipe that leads to the main Resevoir which is actually the main drinking supply for the city. There is no fishing allowed on the main lake but I have and others occasionally sneaked in and caught some massive bass. The tiny pond also holds nice bass I am assuming came from that pipe one time or another. What would u guys recommend right now for this pond? With a heavier bait I can hit the middle with ease. Any help would be great.. Wanna get out a couple more times

One of last years winter projects.  Tear out the old wall to wall carpet, padding, etc., and install pre-finished hard wood flooring.  Three rooms down the past two years.  One to go this winter.

Good to see you back Br1an.  I might start with a buzz bait, rolling it as slow as you can, or a topwater/shallow running jerk bait.  Do you know how deep it gets?

Tom, the floor looks great.  I just finished chair rail around my 1st floor.  Next comes crown moulding in the front living room and dining room.  After that, tile in the two bathrooms and kitchen.  I'm going to pay someone to install hardwoods upstairs next year.  Then LOTS of fishing!

Thanks DogBone. As for the depth I have no idea its not listed on mass gov. It's basically a scenic pond if that makes sense. There is walking trails around it and the main reservoir. I actually never used a buzzbait before I'll see if I can grab one this week.

Try tossing a jig out there whose rate of fall you know.  Count how long it takes for your line to go slack, that'll give you an idea how deep it gets.

Looks great Rhino!

I went to the doc's about a week or so ago to have my knee checked out. It's been really sore and "clicking" for a few weeks now. Not your typical run of the mill achy knee. He thinks I have a torn meniscus...UGH! Had X-Rays done to see if its arthritis. Next is MRI. We'll see what happens.

Hope you all are enjoying the holiday season!!

Welcome to the club.  I had two torn meniscus about six or seven years ago.  Arthroscopic surgery was a snap.  I had no pain and walked normally that same day.  The next night we went to a hospital function, and the people who worked with my wife knew I was having surgery the day before.  They all were amazed that I wasn't using crutches and that I could walk normally so soon after surgery.

The only thing I had from the surgery was fluid on my knee which the doctor drained on each of my follow up visits.

Saw the doctor today regarding pain in the left knee.  Had X-rays this morning, and an MRI this afternoon.  Will see the doctor in two weeks.

But, here's the kicker.  he said that I have severe arthritis in my right knee which means I have no cartilage left.  I am totally pain free in that knee and he has never seen that before.

I'll pretty sure I'll be having surgery after next appointment.

I have been taking Glucosomine and Chondroitin for nine years now.  I had been having burning pain in my right thumb when I pressed down with the side of the thumb.  I was also having pain in both elbows when I'd drain the water from boiling potatoes or carrots.  I'd hold the pot over the sink and with my arm extended I'd  twist it to drain the water.  That caused my elbow to burn.

When I saw the hand doc, he suggested that I try the Glucosomine and Chondroitin.  Some studies had promising results on elbows.  He said joints are joints and there was no downside to taking the G and C.  So I started a regimen of taking the med before going to bed at night.  A couple of months later, my thumb and elbows no longer bothered me.

Maybe it helps the knee too.  If only it worked on a torn meniscus.

That is strange Tom, the articular cartilage must be pretty healthy I would guess.

My dad had a total knee replacement about 10 years ago because of osteoarthritis and he had zero cartilage left.

Strange to say the least.

Hope all is well Tom. Good luck at the docs!

Installed my new Lowrance Elite-4 HDI in the Lure 11.5 and went fishing at Whitman's Pond in Weymouth, MA. The HDI's, interesting, showing a lot more detail than the conventional view.  I can't say I'll use the GPS/chartplotter a lot, but it's there if I want.  I like the clock feature very much.  I bought it for the HDI and because the retialer I got it from had it marked down $100 on Monday.

It was too windy for my 3 1/2 pound anchor so I played with a 1/4 oz Silver Buddy for as long as I could.  Water temps hovered around 45 degrees.  I've never had much luck there, so needless to say, I didn't catch anything.

This is likely my last trip of the season.  Hunting season is here and that's where I'm going tomorrow.

Does that mean that you won't be playing sunday? Just fix it and get back in the game...But ice fishing may be out for a few years. After the hips were done they told me to sell all my ice fishing stuff and don't look back. Pay attention to your Doc and you'll be fine.

Good Luck

I don't know what it is these days, but hip and knee replacement is getting more and more common. A good friend of mine is going in on the 16th of this month to get his done. Fairly young guy too.

I'm just not looking forward to my older years if my knee needs attention now. Can't imagine 10 - 15 years from now what it's gonna be like.

Hope you and the mrs. have a great holiday season gramps!

Thanks for the well wishes.

Hey Jiggy,  two words for you.  Glucosomine, Chondroitin.  Back in 2008 I had pain in my thumb when I pressed downward with it.  I also got a burning sensation in my elbows when I would pour water from a pot by holding it over the sink and twisting the handle to dump it out.

Had a hand doctor check out my thumb and he said it was the onset of arthritis.  He said if I did not have constant or severe pain, and I could tolerate it, then try to avoid what was aggravating it.  The next step would be cortisone, a couple of other things he could do, while surgery was the final nuclear option.

He suggested I try Glucosomine/Chondroitin pills.  Some studies had promising results.  There is on downside, side effects, or contraindications to taking them.  So I started on them.  In a couple of months my elbows and thumb were pain free doing things that had caused problems.  If they don't help, just quit taking them.  I get them at BJ's wholesale.  A bottle of 300 tablets will last a hundred days.  I think they are just under 20 bucks for a bottle.  At 20 cents per day, and it works, it's a bargain.  The pills are a combination of both ingredients.

Is that what is keeping me pain free by lubricating the joint?  I don't know.  But I'm not going to quit taking it to find out.

John, sounds like arthroscopic surgery is needed, the torn meniscus gets caught in the joint occasionally and clicks as well as causing pain.

The glucosamine and chondroitin work to lubricate the joint..I have arthritis in my hips and I have found a daily regimen of turmeric and nettle leaf do the trick for me, they both work as anti inflammatories.

I agree, I was hoping to get it done sooner rather later. My doc is dragging his feet on the x-rays, he's had them for a week now, so I'm getting impatient.

He wants to check for arthiritis first, then have an MRI. I wanted to go right into MRI, but, what the heck, he's the doc. All I know is my deductible bills are starting to mount up... :dazed-7:

You should have told him you wanted the mri and stuck to it..he probably knows its meniscus, arthritis doesn't make a click..but now he gets paid for an X-ray and an mri so he wins..you lose.

I would think osteoartritis would degenerate the meniscus to a point where the bones would rub against each other causing a clicking noise, no?

The more I think about it, the more I think you're right.

At least a torn meniscus is more tolerable than a ligament. I had an MCL injury in high school and couldn't walk for weeks.
