Hey friends, new guy here!

Anyone from Boston? Last 2 weeks I've been going fishing almost everyday, spending around 4 to 5 hours and probably landing 1 fish per session. Im trying everything during this summer but its been a tough one for me. I dont own a boat so Ill my fishing is from the bank.

Any suggestions of places? It would be very much appreciated!

Where in Boston are you, and do you have a car? For starters I would try to find any access to the Charles

Thanks Rob, I've never seen a bass try to eat a duck before it was pretty cool

I live in JP and I do have a car. I have been going to Sudbury Reservoir and nothing but hungry bluegill, any specific place on the Charles?

Short notice.  I'm going fishing tomorrow morning and have an empty seat in the bow of my canoe.

The boat departs at six a.m. plus or minus, and returns about one in the afternoon.  (Westport, MA)

Anyone interested send me a p.m.  First come, first served.

Told the boss, er... WIFE, I'm only working one job for September.  So today I packed up the kayak and headed to Little Pond in Plymouth for a dawn launch.  Got two bass, between a 1 & 1.5 #, right off the bat and zilch-o until 11:00 when I packed it up and headed home.

Had some lunch and did laundry until 2:00 when I decided to hit Ponkapog Pond because all my gear was conveniently still in my truck.  Traffic was tough, taking an hour to get from Quincy to Ponkie, but it paid off.  Caught 4 bass: just under 1 #, 2.29, 3.5, and what I'm calling a personal best of 3.81 # (I never used a scale before this season).  I caught the little one on a purple t-rigged Culprit and the three bigger ones on 4" Senkos.

Hey guys,

Not sure if you guys know about Wards Pond in Boston, but I stopped by there today to see what it had. The moment I got there, I saw a small pickerel close to the shore and a few sunfish. I threw frogs, crawfish, and a spoon, but no bites. I saw two small bass chasing the spoon but that was it. For those who have been here, any idea of what to use here? There is like only 1 spot where you can cast, and the pond is full of vegetation.

A thick fog was over the pond when I got there.  Had to pick my way to the canal leading to the pond.  Got disoriented, but guessed right and made it to the canal.  Might have had fifty yards of visibility.  Note to self, get a small cheapo compass and put it in the canoe's storage compartment.

Caught a couple of largemouth right off the bat in a trench that is five to six feet deep, surrounded by three to four foot deep rocky bottom.  Picked my way around in the fog which blanketed the pond for a couple of hours before it finally lifted.  A nice calm day with just enough breeze to ripple the surface.

Caught four smallmouth.  Two had just swallowed some crawfish.  The claws were visible, protruding from their gullets.

Caught three or four small pickerel about a foot long.  Caught some decent largemouth, and several dinks, which is a good thing.  Today's dinks are tomorrow's photo material.

Not as good as Thursday's outing, but still an okay day.

Thanks.  I sped up my retrieve this Summer and it's working.  I might hit Long Pond in Plymouth and try for some Smallies.

I'm coming home from a morning of fishing in Jamaica Pond. 5 hours or so and I caught only 1, good fish, around 5 ponds. Probably my new personal best for Bass

WTG! :respect-040:

Thanks brother! JP is a tough place to fish. I have been there so many times and spent so many hours fishing to produce so little. What kills it is the convenience factor. I live right next to it.

Spend some time at Ponkapog.  It was pickerel day today.  Caught 5 picks with one being 2 pounds 10 oz.

3 bass made it to the kayak.  Two measured 1-8 and 2-7 (though #3 felt much bigger). I checked my scale with a 3 # dumbbell and it weighed 3.17, so I'll go with my scale.

The pickerel liked white/silver flake, red/flake 4" Senkos and a chartreuse spinner bait.  All my bass were caught on watermelon red/green flake 5" swim Senkos.  Nobody liked 4" Cinnamon Senkos today.

I'll be back tomorrow.  Working one job is great...

Last time I fished there (a couple months ago) I caught a bunch of pickerel and some bass on topwater. definitely give it a try if you go early.

Yeah, I hear ya. You're coming out of the dog daze of summer and the water temps are cooling, now's the time to speed up a bit, IMHO. Give it a whirl and see if your numbers tick up. Spinnerbaits, Lipless Cranks (my favorite), square bills...you get the picture.

Let us know how you make out!

Congrats on the PB!!!

Got to Ponkapog today after lunch, paddled out to the NE corner and continued with the 5" swim-Senko I had luck with the other day.  Nothing happening with Mr. Senko so I switched to a chartreuse spinner bait.  My reward was a decent pickerel and a bass between 2 - 3 pounds, though I can't count the bass because he spit me as I reached for it to bring into the kayak.

Note to self: work on hook-set...

Hoping to stay until sundown didn't pan out - got the call back to reality, so I packed up and back to the world.

I noticed the weeds dying off quickly.  For you guys with a lot of experience with Ponkie, is it time to work closer to shore with topwaters & spinnerbaits?  The place is pretty flat with a depth between 4 - 5' deep.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I don't have too much experience fishing ponkapoag from a boat, I got my kayak after I moved out of the area, but you'll probably catch a ton of pickerel on a spinner bait(not exactly a bad thing if you ask me). I don't think you can really go wrong fishing there, I usually throw jigs worms and chatterbait but that's what I throw 96% of the time everywhere

Also how has fishing been lately now that it's cooling down I haven't made much time to go out since I started my classes again

If you're willing to go to Sudbury check out Wachusett sometime. It's a little further but it has some nice fish. Wachusett can be very hard to fish and discouraging, but it is also very rewarding.

As far as the Charles goes there's some access towards the end of the vfw towards dedham, used to catch Carp there with my uncle when I was a kid. There's also access off exit 17 on 95 (forget the street name). You can also go to the Newton Watertown line (on the 16 I think)

Edit * you can also go to Millennium Park in west roxbury towards the end of the vfw

There's a small pond in Wellesley I used to have good success on bank fishing, don't remember the name of the place or the street but if you pm me I'll drop you a pin on a map.

There's also the Brookline res, I've never really caught much there but I've seen a monster dead pick on the shore, and there's another res in Chestnut Hill that has pickerel, they might stock it with trout too

*the Needham res is near dedham medical, very small pond but I've caught some good fish there

Haven't been fishing much lately but i am heading down to a lake here in Haverhill. Gonna bring my waders and put some hours in. By 2:00 only suppose to hit the upper 60s so hopefully the bass are moving around freely looking for something to eat.

Went to the Brookline Reservoir, nobody there! Got 3 small bass in 30 min, all of them with red lipless. The full moon might have helped.
