I just saw the 2014 Top 100 bass lakes list. This list surprises me every year. I think it is kind of a joke personally, but thats my opinion. A few lakes in Maine made the list. I was really surprised to see Moosehead Lake ranked in the top 100.. That is crazy.  Cobbeesocontee made the list again which doesn't surprise me. China lake was ranked pretty high and it should be. For the first time Kezar Lake wasn't ranked in the top 100, it is every bit as good as China, if not better. Squam and Winnipausaukee made the list too. Lake Champlain and Memphramagog  were on the list for Vermont. Its good to see some New England waters make the list but, I think the best waters weren't listed. I am still surprised by Moosehead Lake making the top 100.

I agree Moosehead on the list? If your fishing smallmouth on Moosehead your likely to be shot on site the locals hate the fact smallmouth have taken over the lake. China has been good, Cobbesy has gone down hill, fishing is nowhere near as good as it was 20 yrs ago. Next year you'll see Chesuncook on the list and it has no bass.

I read how that list is compiled, and there are a few B.A.S.S. members to represent each state, and they give their personal opinions on what lakes in their state are the best for fishing tournaments on. They also do their best to include every state on the list...otherwise half of them would be in Texas and Florida. Still cool to get the recognition though.

The state of Maine doesn't allow tournaments on Moosehead Lake.

Pretty sure they take into account the aesthetics quality of the places on the list along with other characteristics aside from just size and numbers of fish... For that reason alone it makes sense that some New England waters would make the list. We've got some unique places up here guys.

Banged a few small largemouths in the river in Nashua. Had a half hour before work, so I fished a tx rigged bug from shore, with no luck until I found a rocky section in the middle of the river. That was fun!

Finally if all goes well I will be out May 1st for my first day of fishing. Been jealous of everyone out already but my job keeps me busy and the money flowing. Congrats on all your catches.

Lol you spotted me didn't you Mike? I headed up to my sister's house in Henniker. Stopped at Sunset on my way up with no luck. I hit a pond up in Henniker that required a bit of Subaruing to get to but it was worth it. 5 bass and 2 pickerel all on a baby rage craw, biggest was around 1.5 lbs

The access must suck because I lived in Hillsboro for 8 years, and had a good friend who lived on Craney Hill, and I've never found Craney Pond!  I have not really looked that hard, but I thought I knew all the good ponds in that area.   You should try Upper Pond if you fish the area a lot.  Try Middle Pond if you want a real bad access!

Anyway, I went out yesterday in the Nitro from 12:00pm to 5:00pm and just killed it.  Water temps ranged from 43-48 through the day.  I must have caught 15 bass.  Most were 1.5-2 lbs, with a few around 2.5lbs.  All came on a 1/16th black and blue bitsy bug jig.  Most fish were in 5-8 FOW around rocks or trees.  Just an awesome day to be on the water.

By the way Mike, I had an open seat but did not see your post until this AM.  Send me a PM next time you are looking for a seat.  I usually have an open one.

Here is my first fish from yesterday:

Seems to be a wet weekend! Guess I can get home projects done, so if there is a clearing I can get out!

Well, it was tough out there today, but we managed a few, just none of the bigguns we were after. This front definitely had them tight lipped, but still a good (although wet and chilly) time! Now I'm heading up to Maine to fish with my brother in law tonight and tomorrow morning. Then tomorrow evening, I may re-visit the lake I was just at to see if they've adjusted their attitudes!
