Hi,
I recently got back into fishing after 10 yrs of being off the water. But I have found the same lures I used back then stil work better for me than alot of these newer techniques. ought a small jon boat and put a DI hummingbird on it (cost more than boat did). I dont feel comforable enough on it to take it to the lake I used to fish due to boat traffic and distance to all my favorite fishing spots so I take it to a local 165 acre resovior that only allows trolling motors. The lake is full of 12 in and smaller bass and have heard of a few very few 5 lb + caught. But the 12 inchers have been schooling latly feeding on mayflies. I have not seen them hitting shad and the park attendant says they are in there. The water is clear and doesnt have alot of cover. Falling timber on banks and the bottom has few irregular features and NO GRASS. I caught about 10 yesterday none over 12 in and a few crappie which I kept. Opened them up and there stomach was empty. I cant find the quality fish. With little to no shad and from what I can tell the same goes for bluegill. (havent caught any and only seen a few) What could these bigger fish be feeding on? Thinking about trolling an umbrealla rig or jigging spoons in the middle of the lake next time. I guess thats why its fishing and not catching. lol even thought of Live minnows on bucktail jigs. Thats going back old school as thats what my dad caught them on 50+ yrs ago. Hoping craw fish will work as the weather changes. May even catch live ones. What would yall try? here is the link Va game and fish has of the lake
