  1. Spent 8 hours on the water today fishing the Gliss 40 lb green; first time with it. Threw a 3/8 oz SK Rage Blade with a Lake Fork Boot Tail Live Magic Shad trailer - All Day. Had to, they kept biting it. I opted for a short section of wire rather than the usual mono as we were fishing in Pikeasaurus land. Caught plenty of Bass & Pike. Without getting ahead of myself – this line exceeded my expectations. Underlined below are the advertised characteristic of the line and the reasons for my purchase. Below each are my opinions in regard to these claims. Please keep in mind this was only after one day – but it’s not bad. Thin & Slick composition provides incredible casting distance. I Completely Agree ! Super thin for 40lb and casting distance was great. Zero stretch provides ultimate sensitivity. I Completely agree again ~ Will not say The Most sensitive ever – but definitely able to feel everything I wanted to; how & if the bait was working correctly or fouled with weed and of course strike detection was killer. Remember this was a moving bait. Thinner than braid with comparable strength for superior management. Already covered the diameter deal and the Management aspects were very good – trouble free. At least for today; which was pretty windy & quite gusty. Keep in mind that blade bait / trailer combo cast fairly well anyway but even still I was impressed. Zero line twist makes Gliss more managable on spinning reel applications. Have not spooled up a spinning reel yet – but I will be soon enough – with a smaller class Gliss line. Soft form provides increased castability and distance. Already covered. Additional comments; regardless of how it’s advertised or what “class of line’ this product is placed in, to me it’s a braid. But it just may be the best casting & most manageable braid I’ve fished. Questions yet to be answered or addressed: What is the Abrasion resistance like ? Don't know - this lake is all soft vegetation, but I'd expect it to be like most braids - OK on wood but poor on rock or anything similar. How long does it last ? At least one day . . . . btw - there was NO COLOR loss at all during the spooling process - meaning my hands & reel didn't turn green. As for comparing it to nylon, I will say there is not a comparison. For today, on this lake, Gliss was Better in every way, shape, form & fashion. I will be fishing it next time in a place with no Pike (only beast SMB) so I’ll be back to using a mono leader. And we’ll see how that goes. I’m expecting the goodness to continue. Hope this helps A-Jay
  2. No clue. Never measured it, nor did sided by side comparisons. I use 18# Gliss and it is far thinner than anything else I've used around that test. Gliss spool says 18# is .006 in and .14mm. Spro finesse 16# spool says .22mm. I won't vouch for any of the numbers....just saying it seems thin to me.
  3. If you do a search here you should find a few threads with Gliss reviews. Most didn't like it much. I still use it on some spinning reels. It is super thin and very smooth (new), so it will cast better than anything close to its rated strength. It is not abrasion resistant at all, and can start fraying after contact with abrasive surfaces. So, if I am using it around wood or sharper rock, I use a leader. Leaders present another challenge only because Gliss is so slick - a finishing overhand knot can prevent a leader knot from pulling out. So...fairly cheap, best castability, very strong, high visibility, good sensitivity...but low abrasion resistance and frays easily
  4. How far exactly are you talking? I know what you mean by a crisp 7'6 ML. I use them inshore for drifting light soft plastics. They have to have give, but be super crisp and sensitive to feel a bite on slack line. Unfortunately, probably the best production rod ive used has been the 7'6 MML steez. It has a crisp action which is hard to find in that light of a power and length. A friend of mine likes the steez over his NRX, because of the action. Honestly its hard to get a good JB rod over 7'1. Once that tip section gets too long, it dulls the action of the bait and is noticeably harder to work. They have rods designed for inshore JBs that are in the 8' range. They dont have that typical FW JB blank feel, much softer and focused on distance rather than action. They are more designed to get a 5/8 or 3/4 surf pointer over the breakers to the second bar and work the trough in between. Zenaq is a company you may want to look into. They make very high end blanks that are meant to send light baits, while maintaining a very crisp action. Ive only had my hands on 1 of the heavier snipe models as they're very limited. TOMOs tackle is the biggest importer I know of. If you call them they will help out for sure. Personally I would going with the right bait and a very long casting line like gliss and go from there. I think spinning gear is the way to go for JBs efficiency wise, but Im not into the BFS thing yet. I know if you put the money into it, you can really super tune some of those BFS reels to wing a little bait, but capacity can be an issue.
  5. I've exhausted my 17# Nanofil and went to 18# Gliss. I can see some slight fraying only after 1 outing. Question: I love the casting distance of 18# Gliss, am I going to lose much going to 40# Gliss? Am I wrong that as Gliss frays, its casting distance will deteriorate? How many outings usually before fraying causes you guys to replace the line?
  6. For those who've used Gliss for some time now, what do you think of it? Is it holding up?
  7. All I fish is mono. The thing I've found is Stren, Trilene, etc seem stronger but that's because they run a significantly thicker line for the test. Stren is .011". Trilenene .010". My current favorite is Sunline Supernatural at .009". If you have a hard time seeing, the "Metered" version is excellent: 12" of Hi-Vis yellow followed by 48" of clear. Lately I've been playing around with KastKing Tripolymer Advanced Monofilament. Diameter is .008". (All diameters are for the 8lb you use) I've also been toying with trying Argent Gliss, which sports properties of mono and braid (allegedly). .010"
  8. Anyone using this line? Love to hear your experience.
  9. This was a pretty hot topic three years ago so I decided to bring it up again. I was one like some others who initially saw some merit in this line. Over time durability issues put me in another direction. Being the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results) I'm giving it another shot. So I spooled on some 18 lb. pink. Just came in from a brief outing in 30's weather with very little open water. Did manage to catch three with one a solid 2.5 lb. Of course it casted great and was perfect for nedding. Still can't get it out of my head that this stuff is going to be fragile. Is any one else using it? Some of our guys loved it three years ago. Wondering what the current take on it is.
  10. I still use it. Usually with a leader. I tried it in Ontario and it was a disaster there. They got a lot sharper rocks than we do in VA/NC. I can cast a senko about 650 yards with 18# Gliss...lol....thin and sensitive...not the most abrasion resistant, but I do skip docks with it. I have a couple spinning reels that are going on 3rd or 4th year of same spool of Gliss.
  11. Cant beat Gliss for distance, but if youre lazy and dont check for abrasion or tie the right knots, you'll be sorry. Gliss technically isnt a braid, but if you need distance its unmatched. If you need something fast, that you can get locally x9 is pretty good. Its not nearly as thin as it claims, but it casts and handles really well. If you have time, then look into Varvias. Never used it, have some on the way, but a buddy of mine whoes big into BFS and super lightweight gear has been using it for about a year and swears by it. Ive seen him cast a trout magnet about 60 feet on a stock Curado BFS.
  12. I've tried different braids over the years on casting reels...never liked them, switched back to mono. On spinning gear, I recently bought some Gliss and although I've only had it out once, I like it alot. My biggest went around 4lbs on a straight Gliss drop shot. No problems, of course there really shouldn't have been in deep open water. The stuff is very sensitive. I'm wondering if Ive been missing the boat with Nanofil and Fireline that have been around for a while. How does Gliss compare to those two? Thanks
  13. This stuff looks pretty sweet, anyone use it yet and have any feedback? And I quote from TW Gliss Supersmooth Monotex Line is a revolutionary new line in a class of its own. It delivers the many of the same properties as mono in that it features a single strand construction, is super pliable, casts very well, and it floats, yet it still has many of the advantages of braid as well, including zero stretch, extremely thin diameters, and incredible strength. It is constructed through a breakthrough process that involves the extrusion of High Modulus Poly Ethelyne fibers developed during a 5-year process. Gliss Supersmooth Monotex was also performance-tested by Elite Series and FLW Tour anglers, including Fred Roumbanis. “I caught fish with Gliss that I could not have caught with other line,” says Roumbanis. "The softness of the line produces superior castability resulting in increased distance I can’t get with braid. The zero stretch of Gliss produces strike sensitivity not achievable in mono or fluorocarbon and with the incredible strength to diameter ratio Gliss is quiet and manageable at strength levels close to braid ... I am convinced this is a competitive advantage for me until the other pros switch to Gliss." -Round profile -Tremendous strength to diameter -High abrasion resistance -Extreme flexibility -Exceptionally slick surface profile -Low water absorption -Treated to ensure almost unlimited UV resistance -Made in Japan
  14. NVM, after 1 outing 18# Gliss was starting to fray and this morning I lost 4 lures on breakoffs after my leader was lost on the first break. Going to have to goto 40# can't afford to lose lures like that.
  15. I find myself becoming less impressed with this line over time. It doesn't last long and quickly loses it's casting advantages. Just wondering if other guys have recent observations.
  16. is 40 lb gliss better than 30 pound spiderwire Stealth braid on a 7'1" mh and a 6.3:1?
  17. I have never used these lines - Berkley Big Game or Yo-zuri Hybrid or Gliss. If you use one, why do you like it? What presentations do you use it for? So far, I haven't liked fluorocarbon but I will try it one more time. I really like braid, but I'm open to others. I fish a variety of lures... soft plastics, spinnerbait, chatterbait, frogs, topwater, crankbaits but overall, the most common for me is soft plastics like flukes, worms, brush hogs, both weighted and weightless. Thanks for info!
  18. Ive read about this new Gliss line that's being used out of the country. They're saying its as tough as braid but as translucent as fluoro carbon or mono. Thoughts, suggestions, anything?
  19. which do you prefer for casting and spinning reels?
  20. I didn't think anybody used that anymore. From what I heard, if you use Gliss, you won't have to worry about what knots you use because the line itself will break if it gets within 10 yards of anything sharper than a croquet ball.
  21. Breaking? Or failing? What braid and what fluoro? I ask because if the braid is smooth and smaller diameter, you may have some risk of it pulling through with alberto. I use alberto all the time, but when I tried really slick, fine braid with thicker fluoro, it can pull through unless I double up the finish. 15 Gliss to 10 Abrazx will not work well. I have also nicked the fluoro turn while trying to trim the braid tag close. I was reminded by someone here that the braid tag doesn't need quite the same close crop. No problems since.
  22. I have tried Gliss, YGK, Xplasma Asegai, etc., but the furthest casting braid line I have used is this less known Japanese Momoi Ryujin: http://momoifishing.jp/en/products/pe#sec-ryujin It's crazy smooth and very thin for each tensile strength, but naturally, the abrasion resistance isn't that good. It's more suitable for open water, but this line will DEFINITLY fly better than the other lines.
  23. I've used Gliss, it cast great when new but when it starts to "fluff", it loses a ton of that advantage.
  24. Same here. Gliss is a very delicate line. For me not the best overall but good for distance with no bottom contact.
  25. I wouldn’t trust Gliss. Best I have used is Sufix 131. It’s G-Core x13 braid. Extremely limp slick surfaced round braid. Much better than Sufix 832.
