  1. ok guys i'm going to this pond tomorrow and i know its got big ones. the guy who told me about it regularly catches 3's 4's and 5's out of here (bigger than average for me). i've seen pictures so i know hes not BS'ing anyway, in the picture the bright colored stuff around the edge is water that is between ankle and kneed deep. i plan on wading out into this so that i can cast to deeper water. you can see where the water gets deeper if you look hard enough. there is actually a distinct line of where it changes from ankle deep water, to medium water, to the deepest water. look hard and you'll see it. anyway, i plan on experimenting with jigs and my swimbaits in hopes of getting a big bass or a big pickerel. so do you all have any tips for fishing this pond? if so please speak up! i need some help! thanks guys
  2. Dude, I don't know if you stick pigs on a daily basis, but I'm pretty sure that if I stuck an 8+ on every $23 bait I bought, I wouldnt be whining about it. With some creativity, and a bottle of superglue, you should be able to get that bait up and running again. BASS, Nice fish! That thing is prefectly proportioned. I bet that made your night. haha nice one i sure wouldnt be whining if i caught an 8 on it either! but up here in maryland, my luck i'd get a 2lber that would destroy the bait before an 8 gets a glimpse of it. :
  3. yeah i would just get highly P.O.'d to see a lure i just paid 23 bucks for get ripped like that.... this is why i dont fish soft swimbaits sent you a pm
  4. dang sweet fish man. thats really awesome! i would hate to pay 23 bucks for a soft lure like that and have it get torn like yours did after one fish :'(
  5. well if you said normally you catch them left and right, then just do what you have always done. maybe they just werent biting today. i would continue to do what you've been doing for at least another week and if you still dont get one, try one of these: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44322_175002003_175000000_175002000_175-2-3 little bass and bream cant stand the things!
  6. man if they start having crazy sales i am so ready! those mojo bass caught my eye. nice split grip, good price, i just hope the rod itself is good!
  7. right now i am selling them for $20 plus shipping for a bait without hooks or split rings, $25 plus shipping for a bait with hooks and rings.
  8. yeah that video comes up a lot. that lure is rediculous though. way too big for practical use, i dont even think anything would attempt to eat it, and the bucktail trebel hook is dumb, ruins the whole bait IMO. i think he should have put fins on it. i also dont like the action too much. other than that its a well crafted lure
  9. holy crap! that smallie is just 3/4 inches shy of my PB largemouth! i couldnt believe catching a smallie that big. must have been amazing!
  10. wow you have some awsome spots! i would love to catch fish like that out of a small stream like that.
  11. polish up the blades on that spinnerbait and fish that fish that bill dance series bomber to the left (if your water is deep enough) fish those jerkbaits in the middle fish the BIG blue worms you have on the bottom
  12. this is so true.... except for the fact that YOU BOUGHT THEM ALL LAST NIGHT! i just checked and they are out of stock :'(
  13. sucks you lost a nice fish! thats awesome that you have a pond so close. just try not to pressure it too much
  14. wow that thing is a football! did you weigh it?
  15. hmm it really is a shame that a lot of people are fishing these new ragetails (anaconda, space monkey, lobster) with great success but they are not for sale to the general public yet... > anyway, good reviews!
  16. i fish a farm pond with terrible visibility, and i do very well with shad colored rapala DT 3's and 4's. the way i see it, i am matching the hatch. there are shad (or some kind of silver minnow) in the pond, so why not use some kind of silver bait? the fish still have to eat whats there regardless of water visivility, so i just try to go with colors that match the forage. one thing i will say is that i feel that a high pitched rattle (like the DT rattles) does help the fish locate the bait. a wide wobble helps too. DT FAT 03 is a great bait for shallow muddy water! its got the wide wobble, and the high pitched rattles.
  17. the rapala DT series is my favorite way to cover water of all depths and they catch fish!
  18. i've got one of those deep plano boxes made for spinnerbaits. it holds them well, but i dont like how i can't fit it in my tacklebag, because i often forget to bring them when i'm packing all my gear to go fishing.
  19. that is a great picture! grin ear to ear! is that his biggest bass?
  20. sweet fish evan! why is it that we almost always find it necessary to take pictures of dead fish? ;D
  21. paul you make me want to fish some swimbaits!!!! i will have to get out there with the swimbaits i made and see if i can get some big ones (my swimbait PB is almost 2lbs). great fish, i really like the 3rd photo!
  22. D**N THESE PICKEREL!!! hahaha that was my favorite part. i'm like you Russ, i love catching pickerel. they fight harder than a bass any day. i cant see why people dont like them. that was an enjoyable episode, nice job boys!

  24. as long as you do the research and know how to do all that you are about to do, it is not that hard to produce a working bait. the bait might not be pretty, but it will work. most of the stuff in bait building comes with experience. he will get better the more he does it. but you could set your boy up with a block of basswood and just let him carve away, and then when it comes time to use tools and make precise cuts and stuff, just help him out. he might enjoy it, he might not.
