  1. Used to be the Rapala Husky Jerk, now it's the Lucky Strike Rick Clunn STX
  2. Had some Dicks coupons I had to use up before they expired....Picked up a couple more 10xd's, 5xd's, KVD squarebills, and Rage Shellcrackers.
  3. Low 50's..................and enough times to know it's not an accident.
  4. I use the spin shot hooks , I keep 4 sizes of them on hand. 1/0 for baits with big bulky heads, like goby imitations, #1 for most all my general purpose work, #2's for when I really down size to tiny baits like a 2.5" gulp minnow, or a 2" senko, and #8's for perch/bluegill fishing.
  5. In the last 3 years in WNY, I have caught about ten fish over 6lbs. Most of them on jigs.
  6. 3/8 oz. Strike King Bitsy flip. They are cheap and they work. I don't cry when I lose one, and I can find them in every tackle store I go to.
  7. I don't know, and I don't care...........bass bite them, so I use them. Other factors go into lure design than just trying to photo copy a living thing. I don't second guess people who design lures, they know more than me, I just fish them.
  8. I used my 7' MH Shock for frogs (both hollow, and horny toads), swim jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, skinny dipper type swimbaits, larger spooks/topwaters, ripping traps and squarebills out of grass, flukes, and senkos. It was one of my last non St Croix rods that I replaced this winter with a 7'1" MH/F Rage....but I am not getting rid of it. It's an excellent all purpose rod. I fished 50lb power pro braid on it.
  9. It's not the hook, I use the same hooks, and don't have any problems. I don't modify the hooks in any way, just make sure the wire weedguard is spread out a little bit, and ABOVE the hook barb, not below it. They are my favorite hook for wacky rigging 5"+ 6" Senkos in cover. I rarely miss a fish on them. They are also a stout hook, not meant to by fished on wimpy gear. I fish them with 7' MH/Fast rod, 30lb braid with a 17 or 20lb test fluorocarbon leader. The Jackall flickshake heads are a much better light line, M powered rod hook, I use those on spinning gear with 3", 4", 5" senkos and the Jackall flickshake worms. If you want to get rid of the Falcon hooks let me know, I'll buy all you have.
  10. Looks like an octopus style circle hook to me. I know guys that drop shot with similar hooks, or fish small wacky rigged worms on them
  11. I would...................I mean.....NO, never, don't throw a frog that early, or waste your time throwing one late in the year either....
  12. I'm part of the " I fish what I like, and don't give a crap what every one else uses posse" Even though all my reels are Shimano, and all my rods are St Croix, I don't feel the need to go on long winded rants on why my stuff is better than yours. For one, because quite frankly, that is highly subjective, and for two...........I just don't care. I'm sure if I fished brand x, y, or z the end results would be the same. Now if someone asks a question about a particular rod/reel I own or use, I am more than happy or willing to tell what I think about it. I am also willing to tell someone they are full of crap when they proclaim gear they have spent little to no time with on the water is garbage, and that the stuff they have is great, because, of course they own it.
  13. Me neither...........I start the day fishing for the type of fish that it takes to win, and fish that way all day long. But come an hour left to go and I only have 4 small fish, my foolish pride just won't let me not bring a limit to the scales....and gosh darn it, I worked hard all day to catch an 8lb limit, those fish are going for a ride to the scales if they like it or not. I should probably get over that, as I only fish opens, with no points on the line, where a small limit of keepers is only good enough for donation of my entry fee.............but I just can't do it. I guess I am of the opinion of "well if it was tough for me, it must have been tough for everybody, and usually it is, so at least having a limit, no matter how small is a little glimmer of hope..........until the first bag hits the scales LOL.
  14. Every way mentioned..............plus a few more.
  15. I will add a scratch to the skipping record............the SK KVD's. I like the results and like to fish the 2.5 more, but if I could only have 1 it would be the 1.5.
  16. Original for me .
  17. Depends.............if it's down to a hour to go, and all I have is for rats, I am pretty much out of it...........at least in 99.9% of the tournaments I fish. But I'll be dipped if I am not brining a limit in, if only to save face. So I just pick up the dropshot with a small plastic, and make a milk run of spots I KNOW I can catch a 12" fish on. On the flip side, if I have 4 fish, and they are good ones, and need to cull a smaller one, or just get another bite to be in contention.........I usually try to just grind it out doing what I am doing, and hope for the best. After all , what I am doing has already put a couple decent ones in the boat.
  18. As a master of destroying trolling motors, I make sure I have shear pins on hand by the bushel. I ran out once, and fashioned one out of a nail until I got more in. It will work fine for an emergency, just fish open water. That way you can keep fishing while you wait for on to come in.......and don't just buy one.........in fact while your at it, buy a spare prop too.
  19. You probably have a floating model.
  20. I got all that beat....I caught a nice bass, reached into my pocket for my phone to take a picture, snapped a pic. Then threw my phone in the lake instead of the bass. All in front of a guy whom we affectionately call the "local idiot"..........I am now in serious contention for the title.
  21. I like the 2.5's just fine.
  22. Every soft plastics that I use that doesn't already have a scent get mega-strike. Like GYCB, Zoom, Havoc, Robo-worms, Jackal, and Reaction Innovations stuff. SK, Netbait, powerbait, gulp, and stuff like that , that has it's own scent I don't put it on. I rub a little on all my hard baits, frogs, spinner baits, and jigs too.
  23. Another vote for the Lightning Rod Shock's. I fish them right alongside my St Croix Mojo's, Avid's , and L.T.'s and am pretty impressed with them for what they are.
  24. Alberto. If an idiot like me can tie it, anyone can.
  25. Laugh all you want.......but I have had some great days topwater fishing when I have my I-pod headphones in my ear, and make my bait walk, spit, chug, and move to the beat of whatever song is on...................but then again I have had great days not doing that too. I do tend to put the headphones on when the fishing is frustrating me, and I need to "relax" before I go "Ike" on things in my boat. So I think it calms me down and lets me regain my focus more than anything else.
