  1. BTW.................they are not bad eating either. I have had them a few times, and they taste just like bluegills. A little more "head and bone" than a gill, and you'll get more meat off a similar sized gill, but if I am keeping fish, the rockies go in the bucket too. I may be in the minority here, but I like them. I also like catching them on UL spinning equipment. Non-stop action all day. Great fish for kids to too, cast........reel in rock bass............repeat, until they get sick of it.
  2. Greens and browns on sunny days, black on dark days.
  3. Any thing a 6lb largemouth will bite, so will a 6" rock bass.
  4. The Trokar flipping hook was the only hook I used. But I won't be buying anymore, after flipping all spring with the new VMC flipping hooks, which are $3.99, and being totally impressed with them, they will be my flipping hook from now on.
  5. Get a farm cat. Simple, cheap, effective. I have had a couple cats for years around the house, they keep the rodents to a minimum, now we are cat-less as our last one died last week. My grandfather doesn't have a cat, and is infested with chipmunks, I have never seen one around my house. I am convinced the cats keep them away. I won't be cat-less for long.
  6. Well I must live in an alternate universe than you.........FACT is I get crankbaits deeper on 20lb braid than I do with 10 or 12lb fluorocarbon. I can take the same bait, used on the same rod, in the same locations/depths and hit the bottom with 20lb braid in less time, and on a shorter cast than I can with fluorocarbon used on the same set up. On a long cast with braid, the bait will still out-dive the same bait tied on fluoro, but the gap is closer because of the "bow" in the line. I get a lot more hooks into fish on the end of a long cast with braid too. BUT I will say this, EQUAL diameters of braid vs. fluoro...............the fluoro wins. I CAN NOT, get cranks as deep with 50lb braid (12lb diameter) as I can with 12lb fluoro. Which is why I use 20lb (6 lb dia.) braid. They will get deeper on that line than 10 or 12 lb fluoro.
  7. Ok thanks for clearing that up............dang, I thought it was 4-14, I could have had it beat twice since then. Oh well. LOL I will adjust.
  8. God dang it,I did, but not of the scale, and not of me "holding the fish"
  9. It is the lead.......I didn't crack the 5lb mark tonight. In fact I have gone two trips without a 5lber, so I am due. LOL
  10. I use braid on all my crankbaits............just check my fishing reports for how "poorly" it works.
  11. #1 or #2 vmc spinshot for nose hooked baits, or 2/0, 3/0 ewg spinshots for weedless work.
  12. Exactly. I have caught fish on every body of water I have ever fished (at least in the last 10 years) on a drop-shot.
  13. Made a short trip out tonight after work from 7 to 8:30, looking for brown fish, but I would have taken green one too if they wanted to play. Nope, just brown ones. in the 1.5 hours I was there, they were biting. Caught 15, all burning a crank across spawning areas. Most likely getting reactions strikes from fish up cruising/looking for a place to bed. No slobs, biggest was a 4-5, next was a 3-10, and the rest were 2.5-3.25 lb fish.
  14. Uh oh. Why does that not sound good? Do you still have the aluminum?
  15. Nice one!! You are now in the lead for SM.
  16. No, the Baby crawbug was a more slender profile than the regular crawbug. One of the best cold water, and finesse jig trailers I have ever used. Smallmouth loved the little thing on a drop shot too. If you have green pumpkin purple flake, forget sending me a pack for free, tell me how much you want for multiple packs. LOL
  17. 30 and 50 pound Power Pro for me.
  18. I use Red label exclusively. But also exclusively as leader material. I have ZERO issues with it, and I dare say I love it. Is it the best? I doubt it. But it works for me on many levels.
  19. Had to work for a few hours early this morning, so I didn't get on the water till 10am or so. I was greeted by high skies and slick calm water. Soooooo, I decided to fish for staging deeper smallmouth first, and what do you know? For at least the first hour my plan worked with a 2.5, 3.5, and 4 lb. smallmouth in the boat, as well as a 4.25 lb. largemouth. Then that bite just died. Went to lunch at the local waterside joint, and hit some shallow largemouth spawning grounds afterwards. Stop #1, no bass, but the amount of nice sized bluegills in there was insane, and I couldn't resist. Picked up the UL spinning rod , and for the next hour laid a beatdown on the gills. Often on every cast for 10+ minute periods at a time. I kinda got sick of it and went back to looking for LM. And I found them. between 3pm-5pm this afternoon it was on fire. 22 found there way to my loving arms, most between 2.5-3.5 lbs, with a 3-12, and 5-0 as the biggest for that little whack fest.
  20. http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/ww2farmer/media/IMG_20130505_120330.jpg.html and the SMB scale shot.............I am an idiot who don't knows how to resize to fit. I am also on the verge of dis-qualifying myself for horrendous picture taking. Let's hope some one knocks those gems out of the top spot.
  21. And the scale shots.............LMB
  22. I don't mean to brag, I don't mean to boast...............but I like hot butter on my breakfast toast. I got one for each category. SMB 4-0 even, Silver Lake on a senko, LMB 5-0 even also Silver Lake on a frog.
  23. Nice smallie. Having had lots of Conesus smallmouth in my boat, and knowing how thick and filled out they are I would say that's a 4+ lber all day long, probably pushing 5.
  24. Too each his own. Personally, I don't like Daiwa and don't feel like there is much bang for the buck with them. I gladly pay for Shimano. While they are not loaded with features that other reels have, they last and last, and last forever. Give me a reel I can fish for years with only basic maintenance, and you can keep your crap that weighs a few ounces less, has more bearings, fancy handles and a screaming idiot on tv telling you how great they are.
  25. Yum baby craw bug, 3" yum dingers.
