  1. I will try it
  2. Silver and kayaks don't play nice together on the weekends. Hit it during the week if you must. Try to fish the middle of the day right now, the mornings and evening have been SLOW. Had a tournament there sunday, not a fish in the boat till 10am, then between 10 and 2 we boated 17+lbs and culled 7000 times and finished in the money. Same held up today, got there at 8............zip till 10-11am, then between then and 5pm I caught 30+ keeper fish with a nice 5-3 to end the day. This lake is like a women though, it will change..............with out warning, and even maybe by tomorrow the morning and evening bites will be on. Water is dirty deep and clear shallow, and warm all over. I have to work tomorrow, and have a tournament Thursday night, and another one sunday or I would at least be available to show up and point " go over there" LOL. If your out there and see a big fat guy in a little boat, with 400 rods on the deck and swearing at every boater and jet skier that goes by.............that's me. As for Conesus, I have been there twice in the last two weeks...........same deal, weekends are insane, and the best bite has been mid day. Fishing was borderline on fire when they were biting, both days 20+ lbs made it into the boat for the best five, and both days had 25+ keepers for numbers. Water is dirty there too, and forget that water even exists south of the state launch. Plan accordingly LOL.
  3. I use braid as main line on all my spinning reels. Usually 10 or 15lb, with flouro leaders. 8 for drop shotting, flick shaking, split shotting, etc.....10-12 for other stuff.
  4. I have never caught a fish with a senko still in the package or out of the water, but other than that.................no, they work year round and on any type of presentation you can dream up. Some of the internet experts claim they are no good on shakey heads, drop shots, as jig trailers, or dirty water.......but I beg to differ.
  5. Cast, flip, or pitch it out............ and if it even makes it to the bottom, let it sit a little, then wiggle it, then take a swig of water, put another dip in, look at the graph, think about the next cast, tie your shoe, scratch your butt cheek, and maybe even wave to a passing jet skier. Then wiggle it a little, and wait some more, you'll have to reel up and cast again if your boat drifts over top of it.
  6. Same here as far as deep divers go, if you can't get bit on those baits, the cranking bite is off. Tying on a $15-$20 bait is not going to make the switch flip. BONUS...........they are a lot more friendly on the wallet in pike/muskie/pickerel infested waters, even with a hook swap.
  7. I am currently fishing in water with only a few feet of visability at best, in places where it's usually clear to 10-12 feet deep or beyond. Such is the summer alge bloom season on WNY waters. I am still using the same greens, browns, and natural colors on sunny/bright days that work in clear water, and am still catching just fine. I switch to dark colors like black/blue or june bug on cloudy days/darker conditions, and that (depending on the lake I am on) seems to be working out just fine too. I worry about finding fish first, then figuring out what type of bait and/or presentation they want to bite, before I worry too much about color.
  8. I have been very pleased with the Abu Garcia Orra S20 I bought a couple months ago. My Shimano Sonora's and Sedona's have been trouble free with several years of use as well.
  9. I like the Spro, but I love the Strike King KVD frog. The SK frog walks easier, skips better, has a rattle, has a strong quality hook, is a little cheaper to boot. BUT the only downside, is it's softer plastic so it wont last as long as a Spro. Both will get water inside them, but usually out of habit, I squeeze them every half dozen casts....so it's NBD to me. I have worn a half a dozen of them out this year alone, but they are good for 40-50 fish before they are shot..................good enough for me. Hooks ups on either ( or any frog I have used/tried) have never been a problem for me, 99.9999% of frog hook up problems are user error in the first place.
  10. I have retired a lot of more expensive rods in favor of Lightning Rod Shocks, especial for things like frogging, swimjigs, and other heavy cover reaction type baits. They are great for the $$ and the fact if you ever broke one and needed one in a pinch you could walk into any Wal-Mart in the USA and grab one.
  11. I have the 7'3" MH Vendetta, it's plenty power full for frogging.
  12. I like stuff everyone else hates. BTW.............Brain Needham..... I have won one tournament, cashed in two others, and also got lunker in the one we won ,on those hooks you gave me...........got any more??? LOL.
  13. I would if someone made a 7:1 reel with enough power so it doesn't it feel like your pulling a mack truck through the water when winding a big crank. The only reason I use a 5:1 is for power, not speed. I crank that reel as fast as I can most of the time.
  14. 1943 mfg. Remington Rand USGI M1911a1. Belonged to a Marine I knew who slept with it clutched in his hand in his fox hole on Iwo Jima in 1945. Good enough for him................good enough for me.
  15. Meh..............not impressed, but not disappointed .I caught some fish on them when the bite was good, but they have failed to produce when the bite is tuff like my confidence baits. I'll use up or sell/trade what I have left, and won't be buying more. They are one of a handful of new baits I tried this year that didn't make get the call up to the regular rotation. I found it to be kind of a "tweener" bait. I didn't like them in clear water.........too much action/movement, nor do I like them in dirty water..........not enough action or movement. I like subtle OR in your face.....some where in the middle don't cut it for me. Pro's: Cheap, durable, available everywhere Con's: Cheap, durable, available everywhere, and the QC flat out sucks. Too many baits with mis-shaped/bent/crappy tails, consistency of colors from one bag of baits to the next is terrible, and I just don't have any confidence in them when the bite is tuff.
  16. The shad shape worm is an excellent drop shot bait...............BUT..........beware, it attracts panfish by the millions, and GYCB plastic is not bluegill/rockbass/perch proof. It get's pretty irritating and frustrating that it takes 3 packs of them to catch a solid limit of bass because the panfish keep biting the tails off. I am not "complain about the durability of baits" guy, but these have baits have long since been a thorn in my side. They produce SO well, yet, for the reason I stated above, why I would go broke using them often. I have found similar, well producing baits from other mfg's. that withstand destruction from the roving band of bait molesters. Like the Berkley twitch tail minnow, Zoom tiny fluke, and a real sleeper..........the Gambler Shakey shad.
  17. A technique specific flipping/punching rod does not make a good frog rod IMHO..............BUT a good frog rod can be an OK flipping rod. I know it doesn't make any sense, but those that know what I am talking about will agree. If it were me....and I wanted one stick for both applications, I would get one that exceled at frogging, and COULD be used for flipping/punching. As it is, I have a rod dedicated to each technique. I use my frog rod for other stuff...........like swim jigs in heavy cover, skinny dipper type swim-baiting in heavy cover, etc..... but the flipping/punching rod is dedicated to just that...............save for the handful of times a year I toss umbrella rigs or mega sized hard swimbaits.
  18. I fish from a boat, and often fish creeks that have bank fishing access. I do not fish the bank fishing spots, and I always ask the bank fisherman if they want me to go by close to the bank or out in the middle so I don't mess up there spot, and I always go by with the TM on low, never the outboard. 99.9% of the people are nice and we chat, wave, etc.....but every year there are a handful of D-bags who want to cause trouble. It's usually solved by me beaching my boat on there spot getting out and acting like a d-bag right back............I usually win the contest of d-baggery.
  19. What kid of TM? I have a MK Maxxum 70lb, and I can plow my way through mats you could walk on. You have to keep your outboard trimmed up, you don't want that grabbing a wad of crap and causing extra drag. Also keep the TM up high in the mount and keep it on high. Anything lower than 50% for me and it doesn't have enough balls to chew up really thick stuff, but on 75-90% it blows them right off. When I had a MG I had to take the motor out of the water all the time to blow the stuff off that would wrap, the MK don't wrap with weeds, but I do have to lift it out some times to get the huge horse shoe shaped wad of cut weeds that it is pushing along from around the shaft.
  20. Considering I paid $30 for a couple of those Vendetta's, it's a win win situation all the way around. I did go out and pay full price for a couple gen2 Vendetta's too, but even at $80 the bang for the buck is pretty high.
  21. I don't hate any fishing shows (except Charlie Moore), they all serve a purpose. Roland Martins job is to name drop and hock products, and he does it. That being said, I only watch shows I like, very few don't try to sell you something, but if you can sell, teach AND entertain me, I'll watch. The shows on my DVR are: Zona's AFS, Mercers "Facts of Fishing", The Bass Pro's, Lindners Angling edge, Hook and Look, Strike King Pro Team Journal, Bassmaster, PAA, and FLW tournament shows, Scott Martin challenge, and In-fisherman. If I am vegging out and flipping channels, I will watch Roland Martin, Bill Dance, Shaw Grigsby, Jimmy Houston and Hank Parker if they are on just for old times sake. I avoid Fishing university, Charlie Moore, and anything salt water related as I just have no interest.
  22. I had the 7'11" Mojo flipping stick.................it was a beast. Long, heavy, power full, heavy, and did I mention heavy? Sensitivity was fine. I just got rid of it and replaced it with a Shimano Clarus 7'11" flipping rod...............which is no better in the weight/balance department, but at least it's telescopic so it fit's in my rod locker with ease, the Mojo took a little bit of careful planning, gentile shoving, and a few swear words to get in. The other day I was playing with Vendetta and Veritas 7'6" rod sat Dicks and Gander Mtn. The 7'6" MH, and 7'11" H Veritas is WAY lighter than any thing St Croix or Shimano makes in the price range............in fact it's lighter than the 7'6" St Croix Legend Tournament I had, and so are the 7'6 MH and H Vendetta's. I am not wild about getting another 7'11" that I have to cram in my rod locker, but a 7'6" fits fine, so I might grab the 7'6" H Vendetta, and pass the Clarus along to some one with more upper body strength LOL.
  23. I will drop shot just about any thing, but when times are tough and I just NEED to catch a fish, a nose hooked zoom tiny fluke comes through time and time again.
  24. Well, either June was terrible for you guys, or no one wants to play anymore. Heck, I didn't even have to enter my big ones to win the month for LM.
  25. I actually thought Spider wire Ultracast kept it's color longer than Power Pro, too bad it sucked compared to it in every other aspect.
