The "supplier" is the inventor of that keeper. I know her personally. That is why I recommended it. If you have a quality rod you may want quality accessories. The dropshot keepers are made of titanium wire either in black or gold. They won't rust. I use them even on some cheap rods too.

You can't go wrong with either--choose the one that fits your budget and your preference for the momentary ON button position. You'll get biased opinions on both just like the Ford vs. Chevy argument.

There is a technology that doesn't limit bottom coverage when in shallow water as long as the transducer is not buried in the mud. This shows 100' of bottom in less than 2' depth.

The depth is where the boat was when I did the screen snapshot. There is no hump, the pile of stuff is on a steep dropoff. If I am on the shallow side the water is about 5' deep and on the deep side the water is 30'+ The way the bottom looks depends on the boat path as the recording is done.

If you hit the bottom a lot with the trolling motor, don't have the motor so far below the hull bottom. You can use a transducer protector that will withstand bottom contact. Transducer Shield and Saver has a model for most brands and types of transducers.

You are correct--I have a portable setup for a Humminbird 1198c SI so I can use it for demos and SAR.

The 570 DI and the 2013 year model 571 HD DI does not have a SD card reader. I don't know how that is done. I have bought some Chatterbaits that the blade was not attached in the package and when I tried to open the hook eye to attach the blade, the eye broke. There are Chatterbait knockoffs that have the blade attached directly to the hook eye too. That is the only style I buy after testing the split ring types. The split ring adds an additional joint that actually prevents the "chatter" and kills the intended action.

If you use an electric trolling motor, put the transducer on the bottom of it. Mount the display to a piece of wood to keep it upright and use the trolling motor battery for power.

A properly made and functioning lure like that has the blade attached directly to the hook eye (no split ring). The blade should hit the head as it moves side to side. That takes a vertical hook eye, not a horizontal hook eye. Use the original as a model.

The Safari prop is a larger 2 blade design similar to the OMC HO prop.

FYI, if you use the heavier tungsten weights for Tx rigging without pegging them or not using the insert type, snell your hooks so the hard metal won't damage your knot.

Check the specs for the Lowrance Endura Safari. I don't know its accuracy though. It has barametric and GPS altitude data but they don't match. I would guess that you would need the actual barametric pressure to calibrate the real altitude. I don't have a use for that function , so I haven't attempted to check the accuracy. Inside my house it shows 512' for GPS altitude and 676' for barametric altitude.

Another note: you can set your boat up with dual mount stations and have the unit at the console or bow. All you need is a transducer for the trolling motor and another power cord to have the data where you are on the boat. A second mount depends on which unit you get. The 798ci HD SI is the easiest to swap since it has a snap-on mount and internal GPS antenna and only takes about 10 seconds to switch postions. The units larger than the 798ci HD SI have a larger transducer and dual SI frequencies. YES the extra $500 is worth it. You can easily stay below $1,000 for the 798c HD SI by shopping at a marine electronics dealer rather than a big box general sporting goods place like Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, etc. The 898c SI is being replaced by an upgraded model in December so the present model will be closer to $1,000 now.

No other unit on the market has the screen resolution of the 700 series units. BUT with the Side Imaging technology, screen width is most desired whether it is the 800, 900, or 1100 series. Larger screens display stuff larger even though the resolution (pixels per square inch) is less. The screen size is not all that important for regular sonar or Down Imaging since the display scrolls from right to left and is based on depth. The Side Imaging scrolls from top to bottom and you choose how much range to display on each side. That is where screen width becomes important since that deternines how large returns are displayed. I have the 798ci SI and a couple of 1198c SI units. The 798 is OK for a console application, but a larger display is better at the bow since the unit is farther away from you and small details are hard to see from a distance. That will be very apparent as you get older. Additionally if multiple views are displayed, the larger screens are better.

Any Imaging is better than no Imaging. I prefer Side Imaging due to the coverage, especially in shallow water.

I don't have a favorite, but the one I catch the most with is the Spook Jr. in Clear. I was doing just that at Guntersville last week.
