Everyone is always asking about your favorite colors and the usual ones always pop up. My question is what are the non popular ones you use and in what water clarity? For reference most of the water I fish in clear to stained 90% of the time minus the Lower Potomac which is mud 90% of the time. With that said I will post my top 3 favorite colors that are usually not mentioned. 1. Yamamoto Natural Shad= I have yet to find a color that matched the local minnow forage than this and I have caught thousands of fish using this color. Senko's, Shad Shape worms, and I pour my own Flukes in this color because it works so well. 2. Zoom Scuppernong= This is just a translucent brown, but man does it work around here. Caught my PB Upper Potomac River bass on a Super Hog in this color at 6-7. Not sure why it works so well but it just does, and I buy at least 1 pack of every bait in this color to try. 3. Gitzet Leech= If you just look at this one in hand it looks black? Hold it up to the light and it is a different color sort of a cross between brown/black. Same with their Brown which looks black in hand. Not sure what Gitzit has going on with these, but they are the best tubes I have used especially in colder water. I have 100's of different tubes but none of them have worked as well as these in colder water over the past several years. Allen

How do you inline spinner guys twist the eyes on the ends? I have made 1000's of spinnerbaits over the years and only know how to do closed loops with pliers. Allen

You don't hear a lot about the shad shape worm or the color natural shad but they are just killer in the clear water around here. Looking at that Ned Head it looks like someone used Steelhead hooks? Thinking the is a Gama 604 or a Mustad 32883 hook. Allen

Punch out the hook eye then close with pliers after attaching the blade. Allen

Most of the time I throw 2 colors of swim jigs; whitish and sunfish. Whitish catches more fish but the sunfish one catches the bigger fish. Allen

Best casting jerkbait is the Jackal Rearrange I just hate that it sounds like your line just snapped on every cast. High winds use a spinning rod unless you want to pick out birds nests half the day. Allen

The guys at Tactical Bassin did a video on these and from what I remember they are good for vertical jigging like a Silver Buddy. Since I vertical jig about once every 5 years I can't say whether they work or not. Allen

Ed Champers who made the WEC baits passed away a couple years ago. If it is a WEC bait Ed made it and if it's a Black Label then Cliff Pace. Most WEC baits will have EC and a year etched into the bill. Allen

They bought most of Ed Chambers wood baits and have a crapload of them still. Cliff Pace bought the duplicator machines from Zoom and started producing a lot of the baits under his brand. Allen

While they are both called jerkbaits I consider them two different lures. Spring and Fall cooler water is for the hardbaits. Summer if for the soft plastic ones for me generally with some overlap. Soft are fished more aggressively while the hard suspenders you want to just hover after a couple twitches or pulls. Tough to explain here versus being able to show you what I mean? Allen

Assume these baits are for deep rolling? Not sure how big these blades are but they are the biggest I have ever seen on a bass lure. Allen

Ebay and a Facebook group called Wood Bait Nation (or something similar?)are the best places I know of. Generally, WEC baits go for $20-50 depending on condition and rarity. Most valuable one I have is a 2007 Grey back foiled Mutt worth about $150. Allen

Usually have a whitish swim jig tied on from May until November. If anyone is wondering how to fish them it is simple. A swim jig is just a bladeless spinnerbait nothing more, nothing less. Allen

Don't judge my crappy tying skills but this is what I am throwing in cold water. To clarify what I consider coldwater its anything under 45 degrees. Water under 40 degrees these are all I use except for the occasional 2.5" tube during a warming trend. Allen
