  1. They havent been released yet, but the 6" Spro BBZ should be a great smaller wake bait, assuming they release a floater. The Daiwa DOA is a little more expensive (35-40), but swims well and is a cool design. Really, in that price range, those are the only two I can think of right now that I would consider buying. If you can save up and just purchase one bait for a little more money (assuming you want a floating/wake bait) then the Mattlures Hardbass or Hardgill Floaters would be good (50-55). If you buy a Hardgill from Tackle Warehouse this weekend, you can get it 15% off. Lots of websites run 15-20% off sales periodically. You will pay around 43 for them in those sales. You can also get a 3:16 Baby wake for around 50 shipped. If you look around on the "for sale" boards, these baits can be bought, lightly used, for considerably less than that. I have seen the Hardgill as low as $40 NIP and the baby wake for $30 lightly used. I am by no means an expert on these things, and I am sure I have overlooked a bait or two, but those all come to mind in the 25-50 dollar range.
  2. You used to be able to buy around 3-4 minutes of Destiny for $20. I haven't been in one of those places in a long while but I'm sure that rate has gone up due to inflation. 10 bucks in WV. One of the many thing to love about West-by god-Virginia....
  3. They come with hooks, although I am not exactly sure of the brand from the factory. Owner ST36 and 41 are great trebles for big baits.
  4. Ah, the swimbait pusher himself.... ;D Again, my wallet thanks you for all the swimbaits recommended and purchased over the last year and 1/2.
  5. for concealed carry or home protection or both? That can make a huge difference in recommendations. There are lots of trade-offs in size, weight, etc. punching paper means shooting at the range. Don't completely discount a revolver either... especially if you are new to guns. They are simple, reliable and some can shoot multiple calibers. .38/.357 .44spl/44mag (think light recoil/cheap for range use and premium, full power for home defense) I would like it for both concealed carry and home if possible, but of course I want to better my shot at the range. I don't think I like revolvers, but I have only shot my buddies 357 magnum. I shot .357 and .38 out of it. I can't really grasp what a bullet does to someone. I would think the 9mm would do almost as much damage as say a .357. I have no idea if I am answering these questions correctly. A little off topic, but I hope that you never have to find that out.
  6. Yep. It can get just as heated as any fishing thread on here. ;D I think .40 is a nice caliber, personally. Not "scary" in the correct gun, but definitely with enough punch to knock down anything that needs knocked down...
  7. I don't really know what your trying to say by the punching paper statement. Don't police officers use 9mm? Also whats the story with the NRA course? Easy tiger.....Punching paper = target shooting for fun 500 is definitely a range where you can find a good pistol. Is it something you are looking at right now, or are you not in a hurry to get it?
  8. How much is your budget, Robby?
  9. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1242961325 There is my contribution for the bluegill, since I dont have the bass yet. That is the biggest one I have caught, but definitely not the only one. I will find more, hold on. Randall talking about the Hardbass...http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1251090576/0#0 Paul. is another member who has tested Matt's lures. Mrlitetackle is another one who caught fish on the hardgill. Like we all have stated before: Someone is either is going to buy it or not. I will say that this bait is not what most would consider a "beginner" swimbait, although it is very easy to fish. Most people (I was one of them) will buy a couple cheaper baits and then realize they should have saved their money and bought one quality bait. One $50 bait that gets bit is better than 5 $10 baits that just sit in the box because they have no confidence to throw them due to lack of success.
  10. I dont know anything about Kalifornia, but the NIMBY mentality doesn't help anyone...
  11. This seems like one of those discussions that would be more easily understood (on both sides) in a face to face conversation. There is so much lost in communication through typed messages. Points and tone are often misconstrued, as seems to be the case here. Like I said before. Buy it or not. Those are the two choices that every fisherman has to make. Hopefully mine come sooner rather than later...
  12. That's just ridiculous... Gene, think he'll sell me one cheap? : ;D
  13. Question: Are any of you that have already confirmed near an Academy Sport store?
  14. Someone put their underwear on backwards today and then grew computer muscles.... : You're right, most on here are weekend warriors. What's so bad about that?
  15. Sooooo, in summation.... ;D Matt's baits catch fish. If you dont want to buy one, find a buddy that has one and take it while he isnt looking. When I have the baits in hand (and then fish on the line), I will get pics up. There are a couple more weekends before hunting season starts, so I will have some time to throw them this year. Rubba bubba, it's all good man. 8-)
  16. Hope all is well. Frogtog is a great guy. Two years ago, before the Guntersville trip, he offered to let Alpster and I use his boat for the week. He had never even met either of us....if that isnt generosity of the purest kind, I dont know what is.
  17. What do you get a $20 rebate on? Must be the rod, because the Abu rebate is for reels over $109. Silly Bassboss.... ;D
  18. Wow, some of these responses are almost "heaven-like" : I wont go Iaconelli on stuff in the boat, nor will I scream loud enough for everyone on the lake to hear me.... However, the F-bomb and other choice phrases among fishing partners is commonplace where I come from. I have fished with enough people on this board to know that I'm not all that different with that line of thinking.... Jeepers!!! I lost a fartin' fish!!!!
  19. I know that if I am deadsticking a bait, there really is no action to speak of. Especially in that instance, I want something that is as realistic as a living fish. The bottom line is this....try it or dont. If you do try it and find that the bait is not for you, you can quickly sell it to someone else with little or no loss on your part. Cant beat that IMO.
  20. I think so, but can't be sure. All the Rage stuff comes in the plastic pack now. Shouldnt be any issues with those.
  21. More than 1 lure has looked and behaved beautifully and hasn't worked for squat. More than 1 lure looked and behaved like crap (to us) and works wonderfully. I'm not buying a $50 lure because it looks and moves great, I'm buying it because it's going to catch fish in a manner well exceeding average baits (which are less expensive). By no means am I saying Mattlures swimbaits do NOT work, I'm just saying people should be touting how well they catch fish, not how well they look to us. I haven't used them so I can't speak to that, but so many others here have used them that I would expect the fish stories to just roll in (like they do for the RageTail fans). I am basing my thoughts on the fact of using other products from Matt. I havent purchased a bait of his that hasnt produced. Before purchasing, I asked people I trust if they believed in the bait. Their confidence gave me the confidence to try it. My personal experiences with the baits are why I keep buying from him. Obviously, there is a big difference between a Mattlures swimbait and (using your example) the Rage Tail baits. Admittedly, the price of the swimbait brings some exclusivity with it. Many more people are willing to shell out 6 dollars for something that is small enough to appeal to ANY bass in the lake, large or small. Comparatively, not many people are willing to spend 50 dollars on one bait. Likely that is the reason why you hear so many stories about the Rage products, there are simply that many more people using them. Honestly, for my sake, I hope no one throws swimbaits ever. For Matt and all the other bait makers, I hope the exact opposite.
  22. Yesterday was AWESOME. Three of us had 20 on the ground, weren't able to get the limit. That is some fun shooting though.... Nice to see the kids hunting too.
  23. Did you buy the Rage Shads that were loose in the bag or the ones that came in the hard plastic case? If you purchased the loose ones, it could be that the tail is kinked somewhere.
  24. Toys, lots and lots of cool toys.... ;D
  25. Hell, that's nothing. To me, $50 is practically giving these things away. Hold one and use it. You'll quickly see it's worth the investment.
