Some people abuse drugs, some people don't. Some people just react to them different than others. I've known someone who been drinking for long as I've known them and they haven't had a negative impact on my life at all..On other hand I've seen friends who had relative in which both hard drugs and alcohol destroyed their relationships. Two guys I went high school with and grew up with died before graduation from overdose of prescription drugs.
I only have drinks on the weekends. I don't binge drink. What I should be doing is having one 8 ounce of red wine every night, now that is healthy..that will extend your life.. So I've had read....
I believe in the balance of life. If you balance between drinking, eating, exercise, personal life, and work you will lead a normal life. If you spend too much time drinking, it could hurt you, you spend too much time eating, it could lead to many health problems. (which is why I don't get argument about high taxes on smoking because it causes health problems, so does eating unhealthy food excessively) Too much work and lack of personal life or the other way around could lead to unwanted stress which resort to abusing drugs.
I always try to live a balance life. go fishing with my dad, ride bikes, backpacking, make a living, have a beer, eat healthy, etc.
One of more thing, if you really hate drugs, don't drink soda. Please.
