  1. We're required to take and passed the Senior Business Exam that has a 100 questions covering accounting, economic, management, marketing, and finance. We have 3 hours to do it, I finished it in an hour or just under an hour. I didn't really care for the exam itself, but since I can be a curious creature I wanted to know what my numerical score is and what I missed only instead I got this in my email..Seriously, ETSU? screw it.
  2. I handed it directly to the firms' "talent acquisition" employees. It amazing how human resource employees change their title to something that sounds more fancy. It was either them or an employee who was at a career fair on behalf of the employer. I actually have an opportunity with a good company, but I won't know anything until March or April. I'll meet with the plant president 6 weeks before graduation. It's a manufacturing company that produces food. So, I'll be doing budgets, forecasting, and preparing statements for one particular bakery. If they offer me it, I'm jump on it for the time being. I'm not ready to bury myself in more debt for graduate school and not to mention the government cut spending on graduate student loan.
  3. I'm upset. I kind of wanted Alabama play Boise in the Sugar Bowl.
  4. 150 hours of education. It takes 120 to get a B.A. Then you need one year of work experience minimum that is signed off by a license CPA. Then you have to pass a monstrous 4 parts exam where each parts has nearly 360 questions plus technical simulations, ethics essays, et cetera. The requirements are the general rule. Each states has their own. In the state of Tennessee you have to be within 200 days of 150 hours to take the first part of the exam. In Colorado you only need a B.A. to take the first part, but should you passed it before your 150th hour, they won't release your license until you do so and meet the work experience. You cannot get a Forensic Accounting license until you get the CPA. It'll probably take him 3-4 years after qualifying for the CPA to get a Cr.FA license. I think there are some work experience required in addition to the CPA license. Those experience can be hard to get. I struggle to get a job interview in public accounting. I found it odd how I left my GPA off my resume and never got an interview, but when I put it on there I got an interview but no offer. Grades are protected under federal privacy law, it shouldn't hurt me in getting a job. Eh, that another matter. But yeah, it'll take long time to get to that point. I graduate in May with 122 hours.
  5. IRS agent makes 100 grands. Of course you have to be there for years, so I guess if you been with the FBI long enough you might make close to it. They have a Forensic Accounting License. But you got to have a CPA before you can take that exam and experience in audit related work.
  6. I pick choice number 2 and I was wrong... My logic was if payroll manager is supervising there is no problem. Even if you pick choice number one and the payroll clerk(s) or manager don't catch the change in salary without official approval, then they aren't real accountants..We're suppose to be attentive to details. Unless you work for the SEC then you can don't have to be attentive to details. If you make a mistake or fail to uncover a ponzi scheme after being tipped off 14 times then you just get a slap on the wrist and remain employed. (Remember Bernie Madoff?)
  7. How I feel about the world:
  8. I hate when people tell me stupid stuff. Generally speaking, I will let it go, but if it's directly at me like that guy made it sound, then yeah I'm going to roast them with some intelluctual sense. By the way, back on topic.. I got my most recent test result back for this class that inspired me to start this topic. One of the question was "If a computer programmer is revamping the software used to keep up with payroll is it a potential problem?" There were 4 choices, but these were two best possible answers: 1)Yes, the programmer could change his salary on the software. 2)Yes, unless the payroll manager is supervising the programmer. Anyone want take a guess at which one was the "best" answer?
  9. Reminds me of what happened to me when I was at Taco Bell the other week. I was gnawing on a taco while looking over business combinations and inter-company transactions and this old guy next to me said "are you an accounting major?", and I said "Yes, I am.". He replied "do they teach you guys ethics and laws?" I said "when you took your driver's test, you had to know all of the rules of the road, right?" He nod in approval and I then said "so, how many of the rules of the road have you broken?" He just scoff at me and minded his own business from then. Frankly I find it a little offensive they think we don't know ethics and laws. It not that we don't know it, it just there a few bad apples that don't want to follow it. And every professions and people have broken laws and ethics in their lives, so next time someone thinks accountants are only one, stick your foot in your mouth. I wonder if that guy knows that all accounting procedures and ethics are set by a private organization, the government just adopt whatever they say. Except the IRS sometimes modify a few things to get them a bigger tax return. Victory is mine.
  10. I have yet to hear a guidance counselor or any faculty members in high school to say that. Which is sad, because you would think they would speak about college from their experience rather than telling them to go because society demands it. They are telling kids to go to college for all the wrong reasons and not giving them the reality of it.
  11. I didn't drop the ball on anything. I've done everything they asked me to do. I did take a computer course. I made an A in it. Only we used Excel, PowerPoint, and Words. The rest of the class was over computer hardware and general bullcraps. This is first time I have ever used Access. Period. I never used Access in high school either. Nor did I used it in middle school. I didn't even know what Access was until I got into this course. My laptop only came with Excel, PowerPoint, and Words..I had to get Access for this course.
  12. I mention this before the game.
  13. The class is Accounting Information System. I have spent 12 hours multiple times in one day working on query assignments using Access. He doesn't explain all the features for the software or anything else about it. He doesn't show us how to set up formulas, doesn't show us how to dissect large blob of information into smaller pieces to used for the queries and all of that crap. I think I could learn it better and faster if he shows us in class how the features work, then we applied what we learned in class to the assignments. I thought that was the point of having an instructor? I made a 90 on last two query assignments because my formula wasn't coded correctly, but the query results was the same answers as he expected. I didn't know how to do it his way...At least in the real world the boss shows me his way, right? I don't think I'm go back and get my master's. I already got all the paperwork to go forward with the Certificate of Management Accounting exam. I just have to turn them in to the IMA. I have an interview with Flowers Food in March. I worked with this company in high school and part of college as a merchandiser. I know the company's brands, their sales operation, etc. The plant president of the bakery in Morristown is going talk to me and it's highly likely they'll send me to corporate or another bakery and train me to be a controller for one of the bakeries. If I like that I'm stick with it until I can become plant president. If I hate it then it will likely give me motivation go back to get my master's and take the CPA and go into auditing. That is assuming the plant president can find a place for me and give me opportunity to work as a controller after they train me and I prove I'm ready for it or they feel good about me in that position. If they ask me to go work in sales, I'm going to turn it down. I'm not doing that again. CMA is almost same as CPA minus taxes and auditing. Or I may work as a controller for awhile until I find a business I feel like buying or starting. I don't have the motivation to go back and get my master's at the moment, not to mention the federal government cut spending on graduate students loan and I cannot even afford to go without taking out loans in possibly multiple places and burying myself in debt when I'm not 100% if it what I want. College just mess with my mind more then I want it too. It can make you feel discourage when you have bad professors or you feel you aren't being taught well enough to understand the materials, etc. I just wanna pass, then graduate in May and move on.
  14. Aavery, maybe you should read my second post..Sam, no it's not funny blowing up players cell phone. In fact I should get the "Honey Badger" number and blow his phone up for being dirty. I've been to Neyland Stadium. I've seen Alabama play at Legion Field and Neyland. Still waiting to go to Bryant-Denny.
  15. It's not the attitude it the whole thing. Pay a boatload of money for "teach yourself" attitude from professors is what irks me. Normally I would teach myself and then impress employers with it, but I have to have a paper that states I qualify for it. No big deal, but when you spend so much money and time you expect to get a professor that teaches. That the point. Otherwise it pointless go to college if you can teach yourself and show employers you can learn it without a paper and spending boatload of money.
  16. It is an Excel assignment. I have to do some data validations and add input messages. One of the field needs a specific source and I have to add the source. However, the instructor didn't specify any sources where the numbers can come from. Trying think of something clever to add in this field...He'll probably take points off too... I'm not exactly on his good side either. One of my accounting professor from another class preach being attentive to details. The first paper I turned in for that class I made two grammar mistakes and he gave me me an 80. I made an A on rest of the papers after that. Well, the last assignment I turned in for this class was an Access assignment and he printed out the assignment and wrote our names on it and gave it back to us. He spelled my name wrong and of course I pointed it out and implied he needs be more attentive to details...Oops. I get random points taking off on each tests and cannot even understand why. All he says is "it was my teaching judgement that decided your grade." Eff him.
  17. From my instructor: "This is a school of hard knocks assignment. It is up to you to figure out how these features work. I will answer no questions"--Then what the point of spending thousands of dollars a semester if this is all the instructor is going to say? If I have to spend more time teaching myself than the instructor, I want my money back.
  18. I cannot interpret if that in reference to me for complaining about phone calls or to LSU fans..If it in reference to my post, then are saying it's acceptable for a fan base to find a way to obtain another player's phone number and blow it up all day? If so, let's all find nothing better to do with our lives but gain phone numbers of players on opposing teams and heckle them before every game. TR has two daughters, what if there was an emergency and he couldn't talk to his family because of constant harassment from fans?.. It's stupid and immature. Bottom line.
  19. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/32223/richardsons-cell-phone-blowing-up Shows how classy they are in bayou country. Since they put a cell tower in the swamp, LSU fans like to call the star of the other team before the big games. Funny part? All of that heckling from the fan base, and I bet none of them will step on the field and attempt to tackle Trent Richardson. Grow up. Then another story is, LSU's TE thinks Alabama's LBs and Safety cannot cover him because they're slow...Ask Jeff Demp and Rainey how often they got passed them....
  20. I don't know what scholarship you got, but I'm 99.999999% they'll still need a FASFA...I got a scholarship before they even saw my parents' income and they still needed it for their record. After they told me I was award a scholarship, then turned in my FASFA, I went from a full-ride to a tuition only. Ah well. P.S. It sounds like your parents don't understand financial aid. Take it from us that been through it. All schools generally wants a FASFA regardless of whether you get a loan, scholarship, or not. It'll take you 15 minutes top to fill it all out..
  21. Not sure how that's going to work..You'll be in a pinch when you try to get a student loan and cannot get a co-signer. Your financial aid will be base upon your parents' income. If they wish not to put their incomes or co-sign on your loans or FASFA, tell them not to even bother claiming you as a dependent on their tax return. No point in them getting a slight tax break if they wish not to support you in college. By the way, all of your student tickets to Alabama games has to be shared with me. Roll Tide!
  22. I'm glad to hear! I didn't want this to affect me after it heals since I discovered backcountry trout fishing in the mountains and it can get a little chilly sometimes. Lund, I think I'll be getting a medical card that states I have a plate, hopefully I won't be too scrutinized.
  23. Does anyone in here have some sort of a metal plate anywhere in their body? After this semester is over I'm getting a small plate insert into my leg just below my knee. It didn't occur to me until after I left the doctor's office how cold weather will affect me. Somehow, I think cold weather+metal plate=making you cold and pain in the area around it. Anyone vouch for this or am I just thinking too much? I'll ask my doctor next time.
  24. How good is LSU's business program? Here at ETSU we have an accreditation that only very few universities in the world has. http://www2.tricities.com/business/2011/jan/19/etsus-college-business-and-technology-gains-contin-ar-784402/ http://www.aacsb.edu/accreditation/AccreditedMembers.asp
  25. November 5th cannot come soon enough.
