  1. It may have already been said, but fish outflows from drains. If it's safe, of course. I have not done well DURING the rain with my Florida strain fish , or not too well directly after a rain. But it can be outstanding if the water had no movement and the rain causes current to occur. This seems to be especially true in a narrow funnel from one water body to the next. For some reason, they do not bite well for me during the rain or directly after, but at some point sometimes a few hours later. Maybe it takes awhile for the baitfish and then bass to congregate, or the water has to clear up enough. I have had 10 bites on as many casts in my home lake at our little spillway when these conditions occur. I have caught them on a variety of baits.
  2. Sounds just like my home lake. Watermelon seed is king. Watermelon red a close second. This is when the sun is up for an hour or so and the same before sundown. Lower light -June bug black grape and red shad is great. Tequila/ grape are also good during the day.
  3. Glad you caught some.
  4. This is hurting my brain to figure out...?
  5. Yeah, Its been like April here lately. Now, after saying that it's cool/ windy today. That fish had a 7 pound frame. She was a little on the lean side at 23 inch.
  6. Went Saturday from about 1130 til dark. It was good to have some company, as fishing_ff made the drive up from central Florida. It was an incredibly slow day considering that the weather has been consistently warm for 3 weeks here. Also had to battle the wind which was exactly contrary and a little stiff for fighting it.We caught ( I think ) all 9 of the fish on either flukes or senkos. We tried worms, spinnerbaits, jigs, and crankbaits with little action. We lost several fish to laydowns , misses etc.The fish were NOT after anything moving. . The big fish ( pictured ) was 5.7. Second best was 3.3. , both caught on the watermelon seed zoom super fuke.
  7. I fish about every other sat. for 4-5 hours. I try to go more in the spring and fall , which would add another trip or two in a month. But I will get in half an hour or so more often out back, and occasionally between work stops. Also will go saltwater fishing once every 6 weeks or so.
  8. The only time I fished there I hooked a giant carp that broke the line right at the bank , as my dad watched .It bit a bread ball. It is one of the most scenic of any lakes I've ever fished. You will enjoy it.
  9. Got an hour or so between work stops, so I was near one of the ponds I've fished in that area. 2nd cast on a beat up senko and this one nailed it , ended up with 5 total.
  10. Fish the drain holes if there are any. I do well with flukes and senkos in small ponds.
  11. I use a hunting belt with several velcro and zippered pouches that hold everything I need. I can't stand carrying any kind of tackle box around, and backpacks aren't for me either . They hinder my casting and if you take them off its no different to me than a tacklebox. You still have to pick it up and carry it each time you move which is annoying to me. I usually carry one rod for the same reason. Occasionally two.
  12. Mine is a small lake we call Green hole with a 2 acre pond across the road between the water bodies. Its about 3 miles away from me and is stocked by fwc. The lake was even drawn down and refurbished by them and restocked about 10 years ago. The most I ever caught in one trip ( with my son along ) was 5, in the pond. In the lake, ( with a friend,) was 3-4. All one pound size. Most of the time, I catch 0 or maybe 1. Biggest fish caught there was a 3.5 pounder in the lake. Had a huge fish break off in the pond. You can fish slow, fast , all kind of methods and baits and never get bit. ( Not even on shiners ) I KNOW there are 10 + fish in it and I have seen huge bass beds in 8 feet of water.( back when it was somewhat clearer ) I think part of the problem is that it is one of the few water bodies that have murky water. My go to colors just don't work there. I have caught a few on blue worms there. You would think they would at least bite the shiners there but it's very slow with them too. Its very mysterious, esp. since its stocked and maintained by fwc.
  13. I don't go very often all day anymore but I do several hour trips 3-4 times a month. I also often cast for 15-30 minutes off the bank behind the house or in ponds between work stops.
  14. The male copperhead bluegill are naturally darker than the females. The lake is fairly clear, but these are all dark ..The St Johns river bream are dark like that.I've fished Crystal clear ponds and lakes and they are very light colored there. My theory is my bream stay under cover most of the time, so they are darker.
  15. Nice fish Aiden !
  16. Man ! Nice fish.
  17. Glad you were able to go. It always feels good to catch one, esp. If you haven't been in awhile.
  18. Today my middle son came by early this morning and fixed our car while we went to late church. Got home in my truck and he had gone fishing out back and , before long, we saw him coming back. He had caught a big fish about 25 feet from where I caught my PB. His fish weighed 8.2 , and was slightly over 24 inch. He caught it on a watermelon seed zoom super fluke. It was an extremely heavy bodied fish, but the pics really don't do it justice.
  19. Another 2 of my favorites were The Undefeated , with John Wayne and Rock Hudson , and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid " who ARE these guys " lol.
