St. Croix Legend Glass 7'2'' Med. Mod. Best application specific rod I have ever used. It's so good, it's scary. I have used a Mod. Avid, a Loomis GLX crankbait rod, a regular Loomis Crankbait rod, Lamiglas, a Shimano Crucial Crankbait, and probably a couple I have forgotten but the Legend Glass just does the job better.

I have a DSG just down the street from me in Indy and it's positioned close to Eagle Creek (one of the few places to fish in Indy). A lot of guys use to go there for everything but when they stopped selling the stuff most fisherman buy and started carrying junk, everybody stopped going. Also they raised their prices higher than most online stores. I also feel sorry the guys that work there. I can tell they care but Dicks Inc seems to be their own worst enemy when it comes to selling fishing gear. My hope is that we get an Academy some place close by.

I too ordered one but nothing yet. Even if I don't order anything from it, they do a good job with descriptions and organizing things. Sometime it's easier to find what I need that way instead of online.

What's the difference between these two pricey mono lines? Do they have different characteristics? Is one better for one application or another? I have been curious about this for a little bit and decided it was time to ask. I do have a spool of the Armilo that I am going to use for swimbaits. But before I spool a reel up, I thought I would see what people had to say.

For the 110>Pro Blue and Deadly Black but any will work. In the Pointer> American Shad, Ghost Minnow, Aura Black and Chartreuse Shad. These 4 will cover just about any water condition.

I have buddy that fishes nothing but Stren 12lb for the reasons you listed and he catches a ton of fish with no issues. I think you will be fine. I use both FC and mono for different reasons with the same baits (ex. Senkos), with my personal preference being FC for most applications though.

Fenwick HMG comes in a 7'6'' X-fast MH that would work well for pitching jigs.

On the boat I have a Plano tackle box that holds 5 3700 boxes and now, a dry bag with 2 large deep boxes (one for senkos and the other for swimbaits) and one worm divider box with about 40-50 bags of everything else soft plastic (jig trailers, creatures, tubes, misc worms, and lizards).

Megabass Vision 110. Once you own one, you will not be the same> broke. Also, the Lucky Craft Pointer would be my second favorite.

That's a good idea. The Tatula SV, I think, is a great reel but the Bantam is a different animal. It just depends on what the OP is using it for.

I saw this reel at an Okuma booth at the Indy Boat, Sport and Travel Show. It is one sweet reel but I only saw the small size. It seemed similar to both the Shimano Tranx and Daiwa Lexa, maybe the model I saw was a fuzz smaller though. It felt solid, sort of heavy duty and also, simple yet smooth. Looked like a nice swimbait reel for the money.

30lb is the lowest I have tried with braid. But in Smackdown, 40lb would be it for me and 50lb would be what I would purchase for general purpose use.

I have a couple of pairs. The old Rapalas work great but my favorite pair is a store branded pair from Gander Mountain. They are spring loaded and have side cutters for braid.

Just FYI.... Shimano has free shipping on anything. I needed a $5 bearing and shipping was free.

My favorites are the Curado DC (but it does not come a low gear ratio) and probably the best at bringing fish from deep waters, the Abu Garcia Revo Winch. The Winch's braking is different but once you get it dialed in, it's awesome. If I had to pick one and if I was buying a new one though........ The JDM Bantam MGL 5.5:1. I have the high speed Bantam and love it but this reel design to me was made for crankbaits.

I had the 201A Calais. I loved this reel but ended up selling it. I was offered more than I paid for it and couldn't pass up the money at that time. It has always been a regret of mine when it comes to fishing stuff but it was hard to work on. If I remember right, there was a spring connected to the the clutch plate that was almost impossible to get into place and if you didn't hold it down, it could go flying. I also had one of the old Tour PT reels. It was the one with shiny blue finish. It was great until it wasn't. I tried getting it right and so did Quantum. But as the years went by, I gave up and pitched it. I have been doing my Curado E for years and my buddies Curado B's and BSF's. I think I can take these apart in my sleep.

I have a Calcutta 251 and I still use it for crankbaits and this year swimbaits. I have had it for over 15 years and it's hard to find a reel that is as smooth as this one. There are still plenty of people that buy these reels new. I wouldn't call them old school, just a reel that is hard to improve on.

I kayak fish too and I actually prefer rods under 7'. My personal favorite is a G. Loomis 783C GLX. It's a 6'6'' rod and it's perfect just about anything. One thing on St.Croix Elite rods. They feel just slightly stouter than G. Loomis rods at the same power. The Avids and Legend Tournaments are almost a whole power more> MH Avid is like a H GLX.

Are you thinking the length is too short? I have had no issues with hook ups with the one I have and the casting has been fine. I do think that if it is more vertical fishing you are after then a longer rod and a x-fast taper would be better.
