  1. I've never bought new treble hooks for my lures I've just always sharpened them. Well a lot of my lures are hookless so I decided I'd go pick a pack up but what I was wondering is, if I put a different size on the lure than the one that came with it will it throw the action off? Also one off topic Q, has anyone tried putting a trailer hook on a crankbait?
  2. I lost my last moaner hook yesterday and didn't want to stop using the rage rig for the time it took to order more. When I said it was fun I was being silly of course buying the hooks designed for this will produce more fish and be of better quality.
  3. But what's the fun in that?
  4. I have five of those and they are absoultly amazing cranks!
  5. Yeah any weight works, its trial and error because it wont fall horizontally if its off just a little. You don't need a lot of metal ethier in the picture I wrapped a lot just so the camera could see it. I dunno if it saves money I just thought it was neat and its something I did for fun, thought I'd share it with you guys
  6. These are the hooks you should use.
  7. Get one of those EWG hooks with the screw at the top and a weight used to balance tires. Flatten out the weight with a hammer and cut a piece off and wrap it around the bend of the hook then place super glue or electric tape on the weight to keep it from sliding up and down the hook. Doing this you can customize the amount of weight you want on your hook. To rig it just screw the top into your craw or whatever and then rig it just like a Texas rig but with the hook point sticking out the top of the bait. Sorry in the picture I didn't have any screw on hooks, you can't do this with a normal hook because you won't be able to rig it right, that was just an example. I prefer wrapping the weight with a piece of electric tape to make it snag less and not pick up random junk from under the water.
  8. H20 express makes some good squarebill cranks, you can order them online if you don't have a local academy sports and outdoors, they come in a bunch of good colors.
  9. One day I was fishing at a pond that's about 50 yards across, I was talking to some while tying on crankbait and forgot to pull it tight and cast it, the knot came undone but luckly it flew across the pond and landed on the bank 50 yards away lol
  10. I threw some sqaurebills really close to trees and cover this morning and it worked pretty good, found some fish then switched to a Texas rig.
  11. Only 5 wraps on the braid side? I do 12-15 normally...
  12. Don't worry about it bigbill, I've been needing to buy new cranks anyways
  13. What search bait do you guys use on days where there isn't a cloud in the sky. I haven't had much luck with crankbaits on sunny days...
  14. The crankbait I lost was a great color for dark water this is the same crank just another color... Do you guys think it would work in dark low visibility water any good?
  15. It was a bagleys crankbait by the way! Its just a color they don't make any more! Great crankbait company.
  16. Well I didn't get it :/ I tried for awhile and then almost got bit by a snake so I called it quits... I came up out of the water and it was like 3 feet from me. It scared the living crap outta me. It rained not to long ago and the water was really muddy and hard to see through
  17. I like the zoom ol monster as well, very good lure
  18. You generally fish ribbon tails the same as other worm lures, I just like them on those days I feel the bass want a little more movement in the lure.
  19. Braid has bad abrasion resistance I like thick mono for rocky areas EDIT: well not "bad" abrasion resistance its just not as good as mono IMO, it can take a lot more abuse than braid.
  20. For small diameter lines like 20lb braid or 6lb mono I'll use a uni to uni but for anything heavier I use an albright knot.
  21. I would never use a leader for any top water bait...
  22. I cant remember for the life of me what the brand was... I have some more at another persons house (different color) in a tackle box I forgot there ill look and figure out the brand because im going up there later the house is down the road from the pond. I remember looking them up before and not being able to find the company, I'm assuming it went out of business or something. yeah the only thing I would get scared of is having one of these big treble hooks get caught on frabic or my flesh... Edit: maybe it started with an H... I think it might have been something like Harley or hurley, but I might be confusing that with some other tackle company's products I own
  23. I use the 12" power worms from Berkley with a 6/0 EWG hook and I've got tons of bass on them. I use them the most during the really hot summer days though. I believe it does result in less fish but bigger fish. But as in less fish I don't mean your only gonna catch 5lb+ bass on them ive caught plenty of 2lb bass on 12' worms
  24. I have used the 6" ones with success too but i havent used that color before but im sure you can catch some bass with it!
  25. My favorite way to use the texas rig is with those berkely powerbait power worms that are 12" long and a 6/0 EWG hook! My favorite colors would have to be yellow, green pumpkin, and junebug.
