  1. You didn't mention if you spooled it on a spinning or casting reel or what size Red Label you are using, so my comment may be useless to you. I've been using fluorocarbon mainline on one casting rod for the past several years and have tried different line brands but always in 10# test. (Oh, and I've always used KVD Line & Lure Conditioner) I've tried Seaguar Red Label, Seaguar Invizx, Seaguar Abrazx, Sunline Sniper and Gander Mountain house brand. I've settled on Seaguar Red Label because it handles and casts well, is fairly abrasion resistant, it's thin but has great breaking strength, ties strong knots and it's pretty inexpensive. And contrary to other posters above I DO buy mine from Walmart. $10.97/200 yd. spool.
  2. The line getting into the screw lock was the first thing I thought of too. I use these Owner Twistlock hooks almost exclusively and never have problems with the line breaking. BUT to make sure the screw lock doesn't interfere with my knot I screw the plastic bait onto the screw lock BEFORE I tie the hook to my line. It helps keep the screw lock out of the way. Oh, and my knot of choice is a Trilene knot...
  3. Welcome to Bass Resource! I travel to Kentucky Lake every year for a fishing vacation. Love it!!
  4. For my river fishing situation I really like 3/16 ounce finesse jigs. The majority of my jigs are Strike King Bitsy Bug jigs, but I also use and like Siebert Outdoors Sniper jig and Finesse jig in 3/16 ounce.
  5. Welcome to BR Rob! My daughter lives near Phoenix and while visiting her last April I caught my very first AZ bass at Saguaro Lake. Beautiful state y'all have!
  6. Spinning - the only high end reel I own is a Shimano Stradic CI4+ and I love it. Most of the spinning reels I've used have been ok, but this one is special. Casting - the only casting reel I didn't like was a black BPS Carbonlite. It felt cheaply made, didn't cast very well and made a grinding noise. I have a Curado 200I that is very sweet, but my favorite is an Abu Garcia Revo LTX. Don't think I've ever seen anyone on BR mention this reel.
  7. Is the alternative NOT fishing? Then you should go.....
  8. I fish a rocky river and would be lost without my hook sharpener. I use a cheap diamond sharpener with coarse on one side and fine on the other, and use it so much I replace it every season. They quickly pay for themselves in hook cost and I can resharpen a hook more quickly than I can cut off a dull one and tie on a new one. As was said above, if it scratches your thumbnail it's not sharp enough. If it sticks into your thumbnail with very little pressure you are good to go!
  9. As you can see there are lots of different answers on what size braid to use on a spinning reel, and none of them are wrong. Personally I use 10# Sufix 832 on a spinning reel and tie on a 10# fluorocarbon leader.
  10. Definitely my favorite one so far too!!
  11. Welcome to Bass Resource from a transplanted Wisconsinite. And a Bears fan......
  12. Welcome to Bass Resource Chris from a fellow West Virginian. You are gonna LOVE this website!
  13. Well, you can't please everybody. Personally I love the first person perspective. It makes me feel like I'm the one fishing.
  14. I buy it at stores. Locally I can find it at Smoker Friendly, Sheetz and Walmart.
  15. I dispose of most of mine in a rocky river bottom.
  16. Unfortunately it does NOT taste like the real thing, but I find the wintergreen flavor pleasing. I don't know about other flavors, but they put cayenne powder in the wintergreen snuff to give it a burn. It doesn't burn as much as real tobacco (I miss that burn too) but it burns a little bit and if I use it a lot it even gives me a rough patch on my gums. For me it is a safer alternative to tobacco and I enjoy that most of all.
  17. Are you going to be vertical jigging under a boat or casting? FWIW - I've read most walleye guys like a shorter rod for vertical jigging and a longer rod for casting.
  18. Sounds to me like you've already answered your question... Signed, Loomis Fan Boy
  19. My local Walmart has 200 yard spools of Seaguar Red Label for $10.97.
  20. I smoked cigarettes from age 14 to 39 and chewed tobacco from age 14 to 46. As of 6 months ago I am completely tobacco free. I'm not judging anyone and not telling anyone to quit. I completely understand the addiction and also the pleasure that I got from both of them!!! To stay on topic, what I'm using now when fishing is Smokey Mountain Wintergreen Snuff. It's a tobacco-free snuff that tastes pretty good and it's great to feel something in my lip.
  21. Is this the same thing that Strike King is doing with their OPT baits? (Open Pour Technology)
  22. Great vids. I have a weird question: In the second video when the screen says "Bluebird Blue" is the music by Joe Bucher and the TopRaiders?
  23. I've used both Invizx and Sniper in 10# on a baitcast rod and liked them both, but I agree that Invizx is more stretchy than Sniper. I liked both though. With that said, I've also used Abrazx and Gander Mountain fluoro but I'm now using Seaguar Red Label in 10# and love it. Seems about the same as Sniper and I'm only paying $11/200 yard spool. Sweet.
  24. I never had the layers peel apart but they did get scratched and the coating started rubbing off on the lenses. But this has always happened on every pair of plastic lens glasses I've ever owned. Which is why I now own a pair of Costa 580G glasses. Sorry.....
