I fish this bait alot in the early spring and do really well with it. I have not tried any of the big $ jerks but I can't imagine the bite on one of those being much better than the HJ. What head are people using for this? I guess I gotta try it. Do you use anything fancy as far as a bait or just bite a senko in half?

Opie, are you talking about getting less or more bites with braid in clear water or physically sticking the fish with braid? If it's the number of bites you get, I agree with the thought that active fish probably don't care but finicky/pressured fish might. I also agree with Gulf in that you really do have to be confident in your complete setup; from rod to reel to line to knots, hook, baits, scents etc... Personally, I want the best shot at getting every single bite I can so I use a fluoro leader all the time. I have never had an issue with any part of this setup so why not?

A little dip in some chart JJ's should do the trick.

Same here but the other end is even better. I believe Maine used to end around Sept 15th maybe? So now we can fish until ice-in; which for me was Dec 14th last year.

Kevin is my all time favorite as well. Absolute perfection. And be careful not to open any Kai Greene "grapefruit" pics... I like the roid look personally. I've been into BBing since I was 14. And there are natural competitions as well (and some of those guys look like they've done a couple cycles too). To be honest, these guys would look nothing like they do without the gear. Sure it takes some amazing genetics to accept the quantities of juice these guys do, and tons of hours under heavy, heavy weight. But without the cycle, they would look completely different.

If I could only throw one bait in water between 35 and 45 degrees, it would be a jerkbait. And I would try hard baits as well as soft baits like a Zoom fluke. My second choice would be a jig; keeping is simple- 5/16 to 3/8 black and blue jig with matching craw trailer; same jig weight in green pumpkin.

Sniper fluoro? That stuff is like a rubber band. You wouldn't have that issue with a braid/leader setup. Not looking to start the whole braid vs fluoro thing, just sayin.

Yup, man does that bring back memories of when I lived in Corpus Christi Texas; did a ton of spec and redfish fishing there and that was the lure to use.
