  1. I was looking at it and think I will make some sort of scupper mount for it; looks like a great idea. And I'm meeting a guy this afternoon to buy a new, unopened Lowrance 4X for $100. Pretty good deal i guess. No slide trax thx though
  2. ^^^That's what I'm sayin!
  3. I know...lol Just anxious I guess. I did some reading and found some good ideas. Then looked at the hull and found that the scupper has a pretty good sized cavity around it and I think a ducer would mount nicely right up in there. Its just a small Journey 10ss btw. I won't be out in it much as I fish mostly from my Nitro. Just wanted to try something different.
  4. I think I was ready for something smaller and lighter; maybe easier to paddle. My canoe is a 14', 41" wide Lincoln; as in Town Car! It's comfortable but it's the USS SmokinAl ; lots of drag and lots of work to paddle. I'm an old man now and need to be able to scoot along from spot to spot.
  5. So I want to put a small finder on my yak. Are you guys doing a permanent mount? What do you use for a battery for it? I guess I was thinking of a permanent mount; not sure of the best way to power it and how to mount the ducer.
  6. Pretty clever.... sorry if repost
  7. It's 30" wide and only 44 lbs; much lighter than my canoe. Ya, I'm planning on taking every fitting, clip and hatch off and sealing everything.
  8. I have been looking for a month or so now for my first kayak. I have a canoe, which I'm selling, because I want to try the kayak thing. Well, most of what I've seen has not been what I'm looking for, and what I am looking for is $500-800. I know that's not expensive for a yak but I'm in my Nitro most of the time; I just like to float some small water once in a while and kayak fishing really looks fun. Well I saw this thing at Tractor Supply on clearance for $250...I couldn't help myself; cheap paddle and all. I might use it 3 times per year. I do plan on getting a portable fish finder, like the HB 571 HD Di. There are some small areas I have been wondering what was in them for structure. Oh well, I own it now. Who knows, maybe an upgrade will be in order in a couple of years if I really like it. This will get me out in one for now at least. Anyone have any experience with this brand/length?
  9. All of the above. Plus, they just seem to cast better. Not sure why but I like a 1/4 for t-rigged worms and they just cast better than lead, transmit the bottom better and keep the worm pegged to the bottom better than lead. I'll never go back to lead. I watch for sales and stock up when I find them. Watch your local Dick's for clearance. Check Wally world too.
  10. Dear Raider, Pork Bellies or Oranges?
  11. Yup. If you have oil mixed correctly and water is moving through it to keep the temp down it will run at WOT all day.
  12. If it's gonna break it's gonna break. Put the hammer down brother! I guess what I'm saying is if it can handle wide open for part of the trip it can handle it the rest of the way. Is it oil injected or do you mix?
  13. It was definitely cool to see them on Maine waters when they were here. I wanted so bad to get out and follow some around but just couldn't get out of work.
  14. Should I ask him to leave the electronics on it for me?
  15. Will you leave me your new Nitro?
  16. Would any of you even consider something like this? http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/5134667050.html https://www.google.com/search?q=ultimate+12+basic+kayak&biw=1440&bih=773&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CFMQsARqFQoTCOjv8JHW7sYCFQJIPgodmgcClA Any experience with these?
  17. Is there a big difference in tracking between a 10' and say an 11.5'? Any other differences I may notice as a new kayaker? And I should point out that I've owned a canoe for 20 yrs so not new to paddling, just kayaking. My canoe, which I am trying to sell now to fund the kayak, is a 14' Lincoln; very wide, stable canoe. Thanks again folks. Great info in here.
  18. I appreciate everyones feedback so far. Keep in mind I'm comparing Nanobraid not Nonofil.
  19. In the effort to get more casting distance from my spinning rod, I'm having some crazy thoughts of polishing the lip of the spool to reduce friction. Is this crazy? anyone else do this and what materials/procedure did you use?
  20. So I'm a braid/leader guy and have been using SuperSlick. The line is getting old and needs to be replaced. I have read a lot of good things about Suffix. My question is, I have done some reading but can't seem to find what the difference is in the regular 832 superline and this Nanobraid? It's going on a 7' M spinning rod I use for the Ned rig. Obviously a light bait and the most important benefit I need is casting distance. I will probably use the 10# line. Which of these would you use for this setup? Any other lines with good castability?
  21. I'm not stepping on a soap box here but I'm very involved with my family. We have 2 boys and I've always played ball, soccer, football and everything else with them. Very involved in their schoolwork, their interests etc... I also like to give Mama her free time break as well (she is back part-time college student) so all this limits me to fishing every other Sunday. I sure would like to get out more but you gotta have your priorities.
  22. lol. I didn't have the strength to get into spinning setups.
  23. I use braid with fluoro leader on all my rods and wouldn't change a thing. I feel the tick all the time and catch tons of fish. I, too, tried the fluoro thing and got tired of doing a ceremony before spooling, heating it the night before, spraying it 14hrs and 17 minutes before using it, reading a story to it before going to bed, trolling with it on the morning of fishing but before your first cast and then doing all these steps over again half way through my fishing day. I just don't believe the hoops some people go through just to use this inferior line. Needless to say I have lots of leader material. #endrant
