  1. Put me down as definitely interested. Will be good to meet everyone!
  2. That’s awesome. I’m glad the finally sent you a new head without too much more run around. I wonder what the failure rate of these heads are. I guess we’ll never know.
  3. Sure thing Jim. The CS I worked with was great. No complaints besides being forced to go through each step to eliminate issues before getting to what I had always suspected to be the problem at the start. I am sure it’s company policy given the expense of replacement. Be sure to get the name of the rep You are dealing with if they seem especially attentive and knowledgeable. That way you can keep working with the same one. Will let let you know once I test it on the water. A few more weeks yet since last week there was two feet of ice still on the local lakes.
  4. I also had issues where the whole system would just lock up. I could turn but spot lock was dead and speed control was dead. Actuallly a dangerous situation as I was approaching the dock with other boats around. Besides the remote, the other thing I made sure was in my hand was my phone. I was able to video this happening to show it was not operator error. I sent it to the MK CS so they could see for themselves how the TM was acting. I was also asked to plug in the foot control etc to help narrow down the culprit. I always suspected the head/main ipilot link board but MK. Regardless they first replaced the remote and when it continued to happen they replaced the ipilot link board. I also kept working with one CS rep in order to minimize the possibility of a frustrating start over and over again process. Happened at the end of the season so I look forward to getting back on the water to gain the confidence in it again. I wonder how common these issues are. Starting to see a number of threads that depict some instability in the system. With all of the electronics and moving parts, I wonder how long these ulterra’s will last.
  5. It’s interesting to me with how popular the pro qualifier has been over the years that it got no mentions....either bass pro or the PQ itself. Maybe people don’t think of it as a “brand”? I have never owned one but have been tempted when they put them on sale.
  6. Just bought all three flavors of MegaStrike. Do scents work? Wait...Oh my God they just added "Squid" as a new flavor!... EDIT: Just bought all three FOUR flavors of MegaStrike.
  7. But just as some posters have mentioned some have both. Lews pro G as well as the Abu STX are two fine reels to consider that can be found at very reasonable prices. That way way you will have both types of braking systems to experiment with? really there are four systems. Centrifugal, magnetic, the spool knob as well as your thumb. The last two are friction based.
  8. From their website. Sorry doesn’t list measurements of the rubber part exactly. Man are these heavy even when empty. I took one magnum to the check out counter. Waited in line and told the woman to keep it. Large was too small....kind of a small day bag. I ended up up picking up the fisherman’s series. It seemed to be in between the magnum and large and seemingly lighter. When using it I probably won’t use all of the boxes as I want room to for a jacket or food. 9. Wind was the second biggest reason I sold my kayak and purchased a bass boat. Above 12 mph and it wasn’t worth the trouble and risk. The biggest factor was was the back pain after spending 6-8 hrs every trip in one position. Dont get get me wrong I loved my kayak. It was just beginning to be a serious pain using it ....literally.
  10. I'm failing to see their strategy to stand out from all the others. Cabelas, BPS, On line alternatives are all first stops before I would consider Gander. Their selection/merchandising was horrible, their service was horrible. Hope "The Profit" has something up his sleeve!
  11. Yes it can be busy at times but w the remote putting everything at your fingertips it becomes intuitive. Late last year I did pull out the foot pedal to see how I liked it. I think this year I might try to use both to try to keep my hands more free.
  12. As for tips. It depends on link or non link. I have ave the link so it connects to the fish finder. It will I’ll follow a contour on the map. It it will go to any spot on the lake you tell it to. Just put the cursor on the map and hit the go to command I use the remote over the foot peddle exclusively. Pay ray attention to the boat scale options so the gps can spot lock your boat with the best control radius. I am sure there’s more but that’s a start.
  13. I find attaching a pic to be a pain so let me better explain what I do. Zip tie a door spring to the shaft about 6 to 12inches from the head. Deploy the TM so you gauge the proper length of the wire from the deployed position of the transducer to the bottom of the spring Zip tie tie the other end of spring to the cable where the two meet. Done. Now when you deploy or stow the cable it will hold the cable length constant. The spring allows the cable to be wrapped around if needed as the head adjusts due to the gps. Bear at in mind that sometimes it gets pinched as it isn’t stowed. Just keep an eye on it.
  14. Good friends are such a gift. You sound blessed to have had him as one of your closest. Thinking of you Tom.
  15. I use a transducer on my ulterra. The cable management is kind of a pain. I tried the air hose thing and it didn’t work for me. I use a spring attached to the cable then attached to the shaft. Works well enough. Every once in a while it gets pinched but not a big deal. Just need to keep an eye on it. You can get three door springs for a few bucks at Home Depot.
  16. I think you are referring to the heading sensor that is a part of the the current gen ulterra. I have it situated next to my TM. This gen is certainly more accurate with respect to the spot lock. The ulterra is probably my favorite upgrade I have on my boat.
  17. Got you all beat...I bought a Helix 10 SI Mega to replace my Helix 7SI for my console unit. Found a price I couldn't refuse and bit the bullet. Bought some Rage Craws, and Menaces to try this coming season. In case anyone is interested...I have a perfectly clean Helix 7SI available. Has an upgraded transducer.
  18. I had a Jackson Cuda 12. I really liked their stadium seat design but still got some serious pain on my bottom and lower back. Mainly because of sitting in one position for 6-7 hours at a time. I spoke with an orthopedic doc about this and he mentioned that they are seeing a higher occurrence of this connected with increased kayak/small watercraft popularity. This was my main impetus for moving to the full bass boat as (coupled with lifting and moving the kayak) I couldn't tolerate it any longer. I do miss it. Just wish there was a way to mitigate this issue altogether. Hope you are able to find a solution that works for you.
  19. Hey frydog so sorry to hear about your loss. Must have been unexpected as you look young enough. Sunday looks warmer but rain is forecasted. Might be one of the last days above 50.
  20. Saw that white stuff flying this morning...is the (non-ice) season done boys? My fall was not productive...at all. Very soon it will be time to switch species. Thanks Punch for starting this thread for 2017. Probs my favorite forum to see what was working and what was not in local waters. A few seasons ago I complained that MN had the weakest showing in these forums, especially when compared to the number of fishermen and bodies of water we have in our state. We've turned that around and its been awesome. We are so lucky to have what we have in our beautiful state. Fun to share notes as we enjoy and explore it.
  21. I also enjoy fishing in the rain. But when thunderstorms are part of the forecast...I stay off the water.
  22. This weekend looks like rain again on SAT. Cant buy a break for the weekend. At least FRI looks good if I can get out of work! Not sure what the water temps will be like however.
  23. Great report Todd and great pics. Some nice hawgs you got there. Very jealous!
  24. I think the chain of lakes requires you to now call for inspection going in and coming out. Not sure how time intensive it is in terms of wait. Ryan Sullivan probably can comment?
  25. Was out today in the west metro. Couldn't buy a bite. Fished 8-1 pm. Tried jig and pig at the weedline, buzzbait, weighted beaver, senko, spinnerbait.....couple of strikes no hookups. Strikes were all in 4-6 fow for what it's worth.
