  1. Think I will give this a try... what do ya do, thread the spark terminal through the swivel eye and pinch the terminal shut?
  2. All the time... My daughters playhouse has tiny windows and openings, practice my pitching into them, along with a small bowl I will throw out and pitch to from different distances. It's good practice to also place larger objects in front of your target to simulate different situations.
  3. So I said I would come back to this, here it goes... I found it interesting that the list of lures/baits you have caught big bass on have, at some point, been featured in an article where the author says to fish these for big bass. There's a lot of conflicting information in this thread in which all of it is neither wrong or right. It is just our experiences as anglers. If i have learned anything from this thread, it is that there is more than one way to skin a cat.
  4. You're just humble; myself, and I am sure others on here as well, would consider you an excellent stick. Your post raises some questions in me, and I don't have time to gather my thoughts; taking my family to a super late model dirt race in a few hours. Good discussion going everyone, and I hope it stays civil and educational.
  5. I agree with you, and I would've included that in my post, I just assumed it was common knowledge that standards of what we call big bass is relative to where you are fishing. Phenomenal post! Really hit a chord in me. In relation to my earlier post , would you agree that once you found the environment that had the size you wanted to catch (location OF the water) that everything else you that factors in is equally important to where, on the body of water you are fishing (location ON the water) ?
  6. I agree with a lot of this post, but that 10% ain't luck. If you do everything right with location and presentation, then it is completely up to the bass after that. Either they eat it or they don't. Let me preface that this is all my opinion, none of it is to be taken as fact, come to your own conclusions. There has been two fishing definitions of location in this thread; location OF the water, and location ON the water. In the beginning of your pursuit of big bass, location of the water and habitat conditions in the water are the only factors that matter up to this point. Some regions of the world have climates more conducive to creating truly big bass, and if the habitats within these waters are not optimal, then you are handicapping yourself from the beginning. Once you get those right, many other factors play into the percentages, with none, I think, being more important than the other. Catching big bass requires a full effort on the anglers part to do/get everything right.
  7. Really enjoy the show. Less talking behind a desk, and more fishing footage.
  8. Ok then... Most of my big bass have been caught on spro bbz1 jr... It's not a deps 250 or a roman mother, but I get funny looks when I throw it; it's still a pretty big lure. I can say with confidence that I hold top 3 big bass this year in the particular body of water that I frequent. They were caught with the bbz1 jr. EDIT: What were you getting at with your reply to my post? Yes, Butch Brown is synonymous with swimbait, but he can catch them on other lures, also. The point of my post was that you raised the question But what's the time involved? I know it's no where near smaller baits catching smaller fish, but is it equal in time with smaller baits catching bigger fish? He can catch multiple dd bass in a day's time. I myself have yet to catch a dd bass, but I do catch larger bass in an area where people catch hardly any fish at all.
  9. Send Butch Brown a message, I'm sure he will be glad to post a pic of some big bass with sticky notes containing your username and the date of either the same day or the next. Seen him do it many times.
  10. Cool story... So what is your favorite website to buy lures? I like tackle warehouse. I am also part of a facebook group that specializes in hand painted lures.
  11. I suspect it will pull like a 6xd. Will be pleasantly surprised though, if it pulls lighter.
  12. Very beautiful bass, nice color. Good job.
  13. It will have a place in my collection, and will be used. I'm also positive it will catch fish for me; the blueback herring around here get pretty large about the time of bass spawn.
  14. It is all a matter of opinion and how you approach fishing. So many dynamics. As aavery2 said, get in where you fit in. I have a mindset similar to the auto mechanic who believes in purchasing quality hand tools. Fishing rods, reels, line, lures, and terminal tackle are tools to me. I buy the best performing tools that I can afford to aid my pursuit of fish. I enjoy the refined feel of a quality rod and reel in my hand. I say buy what makes you feel comfortable; buy what gives you enjoyment.
  15. Anyone else excited to get their hand on this? http://strikeking.com/products/new-icast-products-2015/new-2015-bass-baits.html > Quick description: A magnum-sized squarebill that dives to 7 feet with great wandering action. It's based on the original 2.5, just oversized. It weighs 1.5 oz and is 5” long. It deflects really well off of cover. Big baits catch big bass! Big baits equal big bites. We’ve all heard that before, so tie on the all-new KVD 8.0 from Strike King and prepare to catch a giant! "The nature of today’s tournament atmosphere has changed," says four-time Bassmaster Classic champion Kevin VanDam. "Gone are the days of catching a limit to survive. Survival and success in today’s tournaments require catching 5 big bass every single day. "That need led us to design the all-new KVD 8.0. The 8.0 is a large-profile bait designed to mimic the bigger-sized forage of giant bass. But don’t think for a minute that a 3-pounder won’t eat it too." The all-new KVD 8.0 weighs in at 1 ½-oz and runs 3-7 feet deep. Much like its squarebill brethren – the KVD 1.5 and 2.5 – the 8.0 has the erratic “hunting” action that made this line famous among anglers. It also is designed with no rattles for the silent approach that maximizes its ability to take advantage of the reactionary nature of a bass. The introductory lineup will include 10 fish-catching colors and can be found at better sporting goods retailers everywhere.
  16. "Ya know he ain't gonna die!".... Oh.... nevermind.
  17. I completely overlooked the part about the spool tension knob. I would definately have that checked out.
  18. When you refill a spool to the max, it is going to be easier to cast, and will also be easier to backlash. Adjust your brakes and make them a little stronger, it should help.
  19. All it takes is one person, just one, to make you reevaluate how secure it really is...
  20. I'm labeled a bank fisherman, but I am almost always in the water... Nothing like being waist deep with a lunker wrapping around your legs lol!
  21. My experience... http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/123514-some-good-news-today-theft-involved/ The op... Fish_Whisperer, on 14 Aug 2013 - 15:16, said:
  22. People ask me, why is it that I fish so much... I give them a generic answer, like "because it's fun". This morning, though, I feel compelled to let out why I do what I do. I guess I can break it down into two main subjects; the sport/hunt , and the water itself. The first one is easy, as the pursuit of fish provides an entertainment value shared by many. The latter, however, goes much deeper than satisfying the need for fun. The water doesn't disappoint. When people let you down, the water won't. "Best friends" may never call, but the water calls me constantly, and never fails to answer my call. The water is always there for you, when no one else is. It has the uncanny ability to take whatever problems you go to it with, and wash them away. Like you, the water has secrets, if you take the time to listen to them. And oftentimes, the water will unlock secrets about you to yourself.
  23. Probably the best picture I have seen on here recently. Can't beat that smile. Kudos to you for getting you brother outside and breaking the mold of the video game generation.
  24. Thank you sir. I got out in the water at 5, was heading home at 6:40. Was the only fish I caught this morning, but I'm totally fine with it!
  25. Great way to take a picture, having something common along side the fish to show scale.
