  1. Thanks for all the replies guys! All great answers. Y’all make me feel a little better about this old age! ?
  2. Iv tossed around the idea of posting this back for forth for quite a while, but finally decided Imma go ahead and post. I understand that I may get razzed a lil bit for this but oh well! I can get a wide array of feedback here from people of all ages and lifestyles, so why not.. In a month I turn 30.. It’s kinda hittin me hard. Society tells me that It’s time to do some growing up, but I just don’t want to! I still feel like I’m 21 a lot of the time. I like to party with friends, and get a little rowdy from time to time. I’m born and raised in the south and have southern culture instilled in me, so I like to hunt, fish, sometimes get a little dirty. I also like popular music, specifically modern country. I still listen to what’s hot on the radio, and although the music isn’t necessarily unrelatable to me, I know that popular music is aimed toward the younger crowd. What am I “supposed” to listen to the older I get? With all this being said, I’ll also note that Im married and am a homeowner. It’s not like I’m still in my parents basement and feel it’s time to finally start an adult life. 30 years old and feel like I’m caught smack in the middle of still being really young, and weirdly feeling like I’m getting too old for certain things. Anyone wanna give me some input on this?
  3. This weekend I’ll be at the beach surf fishing, and I’ll be running a Carolina rig with 20 lb braid as main line and probably 60 lb mono as a leader. Anyone have any suggestions on barrel swivel size I’ll need? Edit: I know this isn’t about bass fishing, but figured this was still the right spot to post. Sorry if not.
  4. Was chatting with some buddies the other day, and we were talking about how (at least around us) rural areas are gradually getting smaller due to development. It seems that small towns are getting larger and some rural folks are having to adapt. It’s got me curious as to where my fellow anglers/hunters are living. Just for fun ?
  5. Congratulations!! That’s really good to hear!
  6. Does anyone think any of the next few generations will see the downfall of recreational fishing?
  7. Interesting responses from everybody. I really appreciate the input. Like I said in my original post, down here it seems to be kickin pretty good.. Both hunting and fishing, although I can definitely see hunting becoming more of a thing of the past with each passing year. Development doesn’t stop, and it’s getting harder and harder to find land to hunt. As far as fishing goes, here’s another question for you; does anyone feel that eventually fishing will phase out to the point of major companies in the industry shutting down? Rod/reel makers, bait companies, etc?
  8. I’m sorry if this has been covered before. Just genuinely curious as to the answers I may get. Iv been doing a lot of thinking lately about the future. They say that hunting and fishing is a dying sport due to lack of interest from the younger generations. I can kinda see where this thinking comes from, but at the same time I Was born and raised in the south. It seems to me that both are alive and well throughout all age groups. I personally know a ton of people who do at least one of the activities on a regular basis. Now I’m not sure how the rest of the country fares as far as outdoorsman goes, but it seems to me that the number of people who engage in some sort of hunting/fishing is bigger than a lot of people may think. Id love to hear answers from you guys. What do y’all make of it?
  9. My brother in law got me a Penn Fierce 3 for Christmas in the 2000 size. I have a fierce in the 4000 that I catfish and surf fish with. I plan on using the 2000 for brim/ crappie and also maybe using it to surf fish with when I go to the beach for smaller saltwater fish. I’m kinda stuck on what size rod I should pair it with that would be a happy medium for both purposes I intend to use it for... If there even is a happy medium. I know one hand I won’t be using hardly any weight, and on the other, a lot more. Suggestions?
  10. Thanks for the responses guys. I realize that buck movement during the rut is unpredictable but I’m more interested in just any and all deer movement. I lost all my hunting land 2 years ago, so the land I’m hunting now is a pretty small tract. Like I said in the original post, I have a few daylight pictures but for the most part all the deer, both does and bucks are outta there before light or are coming out after dark. I’m just curious if this will change. I have 2 more weeks until opening day, and I’m hoping they’ll start moving for me. All Iv ever known is hunting over a field, which to me seems like a whole different ballgame than hunting in the woods. As you can tell... I’m not that experienced with it.
  11. Iv been deer hunting for a few years, still relatively new. I’m hunting a new piece of property this year and have had my camera out for about 5-6 weeks now. Iv typically never really used cameras to get intel on the deer before the season starts, so it’s fairly new to me. I’m Getting a ton of movement, and a few pics during shooting hours but for the most part, the deer are nocturnal... Which is expected, but what I’m curious about is should I expect the deer to move differently the closer my area gets to the rut starting, as in progressively starting to move better during shooting light?
  12. Thanks guys. I’ll be back to the area soon, and see what I can do.
  13. Alright guys, I found access to a new fishing location this morning. It’s a local river, and Iv never fished in a river before. I plan on catfishing here, but also trying for some bass to see what, if any, is in there. I’m brand new to fishing in this kind of water so I need your help with how to go about catching fish here. It has a noticeable current, but not heavy by any means. At least not at the moment. There are various sized rocks in the water, as well as a little sand bar. I tried to attach some pictures I took, but I’m posting from my phone, and I guess they’re too big. If I have a chance to get on my computer later, I’ll post the pics. Thanks guys.
  14. A buddy and myself plan on doin a little catfishing tomorrow evening. Typically we just use chicken livers for bait, but want to try some cut bream tomorrow. i figured I could go ahead and get a jump on catching the bait tonight, but was wondering if the cut fish should be completely fresh or if it doesn’t really matter? Any adverse effects to catchin some bream tonight and letting it sit on ice in the cooler until tomorrow afternoon?
  15. Thanks for all the replies guys! Hopefully I can put it all to good use this weekend.
  16. I don’t typically target catfish, and know very little about how to be a “good” cat fisherman. Lately Iv had a wild hair though, and have been throwing a line for some cats. I have a few questions for the cat guys. All I really have for a catfish setup is a saltwater rod/reel combo that was probably bought at Walmart near the coast. It’s a heavy rod and a pretty big reel. Will this be ok for an all purpose, all around setup? What is the beat bait you have found that produces hookups? Lastly, do catfish feed during the day? Iv only ever caught catfish at night. Can I catfish anytime? Thanks guys!
  17. This is probably gonna seem like a weird discussion, but It’s something that’s been on my mind lately. For the past couple years, anytime I go to any outdoor shop and look through the clothes, more specifically the fishing clothing, I see a lot of pastel colors for men. The Columbia stuff, Guy Harvey, etc. I love wearing the stuff, and I’m sure a ton of other people do as well but I’m curious how the bright/pastels got to be so big with outdoorsman. I’m only 28, so I haven’t lived through a lot of the fashion trends as some others. Maybe styles like this come and go? Maybe it’s a new trend.. I know In some circles the pinks, and pastel colors aren’t considered “manly” colors, yet I see a lot of people who are involved with the outdoors wear said clothing. Anyone care to elaborate?
  18. Awesome! It only gets better from there!
  19. Congrats brother! Welcome to the addiction ?
  20. Nice fish man!
  21. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the BPS pro qualifier reels. I own two of them and love em. A lot of bang for your buck. 100 dollar reels that you can get on sale for like 80 bucks from time to time. Also the BPS branded senko worms are pretty good. They’re really about the only ones I buy. A whole heck of a lot cheaper than Yamamotos.
  22. That actually sounds really good lol. I’ll have to try that out. Thanks for the suggestion.
  23. It’s a Masterbuilt propane smoker. Can’t think of the exact model off the top of my head.
  24. Thank you sir! Exactly what I was lookin for.
  25. Great reaponse. Thanks! I’ll just go with what Iv heard and start with about a cup of chips. I’ll adjust accordingly. Are you letting your smoker get up to desired temp before adding your wood, or letting it preheat with the wood already inside?
