  1. Since I've never had a good experience with a trailer hook, I'm more inclined to monkey with the spinnerbait. Open up the angle of the wire a bit to increase the zone in which the fish can get a clean bite at the hook without getting a mouthful of blade. Failing that, I would simply switch to a slightly larger bait that's less likely to be inhaled whole. Also, some days I notice that although I'm hooking them, the hook is stuck from the outside in, which suggests that they're hitting the blade instead of the hook, in which case I give 'em what they apparently want and just switch to spoons!
  2. Thanks! Yeah, I'm remembering back to last year at this time while I stare in disbelief at the "wintry mix" blasting through my backyard... Delavan Lake, huh? That's on my list this season; I hear it's great for pike, too. Hang in there!
  3. Thanks for the welcome, everyone!
  4. Last summer I picked up a rod for the first time in 20 years, just something new to do with my boys, and got hooked. I fished with my dad and grandfather a handful of times as a kid; now I'd fish a handful of times a day if I could get away with it. These forums (and YouTube) pretty much taught me to fish, so I thought it high time to join the community that showed me the way. Looking forward to another season, learning to use a baitcaster, and teaching my boys whatever I can. Thanks one and all for your contributions! Tight lines!
