  1. I use red cranks all year round with great luck. Clear/stained/dirty water it doesn't seem to matter I catch them during all of the above. I never realized so many guys looked at red lures as only prespawn lures, but i'm glad I never had that mentality. I catch way to many fish during the summer and fall as well to put them away.
  2. I've never been so set on one color in my life, New Gill is the real deal. If the forage in your lakes have any kind of sunfish/bluegill or even perch for that matter you need to throw this jig. Like you said work it like a spinnerbait and don't be afraid to pump your rod a few times during the retrieve and also kill the bait and let it sink around key pieces of cover. These 2 things get me a lot of bites throughout the year.
  3. When I use to use jigs with rubber collars I'd take some 50lb braid and tie a knot in between the collar and the jighead. This way if the collar melts or rips you can still get a few more fish on it before the jig falls apart.
  4. ^^ same here. Not saying good glasses aren't worth it, but for me I go through a fair amount of glasses as well due to my own stupidity lol. I'd put the money towards a rod. Use the BPS one for moving baits and dedicate your new one for bottom contact techniques.
  5. I'd go with these and maybe add some 7-10" Ribbontail worms or 6" lizards.
  6. I've always had great luck with all black hair jigs. It's funny I never throw an all black regular jig (I'm a big Alimony guy though), but for hair jigs it's probably my hands down favorite lol.
  7. I pay a great deal of attention to fall rate. There are many days were you can get reaction strikes by using heavier weights, but there also a lot of days were you will get more bites with a slow fall. For me it isn't so much time of year, but just finding out the mood of a fish on particular days. 2 areas were I will usually downsize weight is 1) shallow water with thick weeds or muck on the bottom. This way your jig doesn't go through it, but sits on top of it. 2) when i'm fishing what I call cut banks. A lot of times up here cattail banks become eroded under the water so the fish sit "under" the bank, similar to a bog but still attached to shore. A slow falling jig really shines in this circumstance for me. As does a senko.
  8. 2 more orders since then ^^ Just received another BTD order in the mail today which I held back and only spent 70$ on more line, topwaters and soft plastics. I have a TW order that should be here next monday, Powell Max 710mh for 112$. The 710 will be offset with a rod i'm selling, that should get me more than 112$, so i'm not counting it as spending money lol! Now I just have to stock up on jigs and trailers and i'll be golden!
  9. I won't spend over 10$ for a lure.. To many northerns up here to even justify it imo. it's bad enough when I lose 6 different 5$ lures in a day.
  10. Granola bars, 2 sandwiches, 4-5 waters, and either a pop or coffee for early mornings.
  11. Gotta love the NSCB hair jig. I fish them all year, but when the going gets tough it really shines.
  12. I'll take my 50-65# braid with a 7'3-8' rod any day of the week before I even look at a spinning rod.. Just my style of fishing.
  13. I used sunline super all of last year in 16lb and 20lb and liked it. I found Red Label on sale a months ago so I am going to try that this year as well.
  14. I won't deny that I may contribute to this
  15. Sorry to hear that man, but glad they are taking care of it. I have had nothing but positive experiences when ordered from BTD and the guys are great to talk too and help out over the phone. I will say though, i have ordered 2 rods from BTD and the were packaged well, but TW does a better job when it comes to packaging rods.
  16. Tubes/Worms/Plastics- watermelon/red fleck, green pumpkin, okeechobee craw Spinnerbaits- White and Bluegill Lipless Cranks- Bluegill, Perch, Red craw Jigs-BLUEGILL (new gill to be specific), watermelon/red fleck, black/blue Really if i HAD to I could have just a sunfish imitator of each and be happy.
  17. Thanks again Teal. A lot of my pitching rods are more mod/fast so it should work well for me. Fishing opener is May 25th up here in mn, long ways away lol. I do fish a couple boarder water lakes that open mid April, thankfully. These big sheets of ice are pretty depressing.
  18. Thanks for the feedback man, great stuff! I had a feeling you'd probably fished one and was hoping you'd comment. I have never bought a telescopic rod either and have been hesitant to buy one, but with the price i figured it was a good time to try. I mostly flip/pitch 1/2-3/4 with the occasional 1.25oz so it sounds like it should be golden for what I need. Is the action a true fast or more of a mod/fast in your opinion?
  19. I have the same set up. BA looking combo for sure.
  20. If you have fished this rod give me some feedback on it. TW got me (again) and I ordered one for 112$ today. What is the minimum and maximum weight you'd pitch/flip with it. Thanks
  21. I'll be rooting for Evers, but I think McClelland has a great shot at taking it.
  22. I found 68mxf for 100$ shipped to my door a 2 months ago on E bay. Best 100 dollars i've ever spent. I would also look at the Phenix Recon/M1 or Dobyns Savvy when tw or btd have their 15-25 % off sales. If you don't want to wait for a sale i've also heard good things about the *** ***, but i've never personally fished one.
  23. Since the ice has formed I've picked up an Avid 68mxf, Revo S, and Lews Super Duty for bigger purchase items. Other than that it's been all re-stocking essentials like terminal tackle, plastics, cranks, line, etc... I've dropped about a grand in the past 3 months and hopefully only have another 500 to go until i'm "set".
  24. RI Skinny Dipper Berkley Havoc Grass Pig---Also wanting to try the Havoc Beat Shad and Sick Fish
  25. Like many I trim the weed guards on my jigs and trim the skirt. I usually cut the end of the skirt with a trimming scissors so it makes it look more irregular. Trim the legs on my frogs so they aren't so long. I usually buy straight shank hooks that come without the bait keeper (many of them are to big and bulky) imo. I will take a 1" piece of heat shrink tubing and cut it at a 45 degree angle. Slide it onto the hook, heat it up, and I got myself a bait keeper.
