  2. In the junkyard, old plumbing is made from lead and sold by weight, I just go and purchase a couple of pounds and melt it. BPS also sells lead ingots. You can also find lots of balancing lead weights where tires are sold.
  3. Pour your own, all you need is: Melting pot Jighead mold Lead Hooks And if you want to make them look nicer: Tru Turn Hitchiker Trails I 'm a pretty old fart when it comes to this hobby, been doing it for over 3 decades, back then at my early stages as fisherman I fished a lot with grubs rigged on a jighead, which meant that I lost a great deal of jigheads since I fished with exposed hooks, there had to be a way to make the bait weedless but unfortunately nowhere I could find small weight jigheads with large hooks so I could T-rig the bait, the only jigheads that came with larger hooks were exactly those that I didn 't want. So one day, a couple of decades ago, looking at hooks I saw that several companies sold jighead hooks by the pack, that gave me the idea to pour the jigeads in the weights I wanted with those larger hooks. Went ahead and purchase a jighead mold, a melting pot and a bunch of 3/0 and 4/0 hooks and began to pour my own "shakeyheads". They may not be the fanciest and best looking but they work no better and no worse than those rather expensive in the long run commercially available shakey heads. The only place where I don 't try to "save" is in the hook quality, only the best and sharpest.
  4. Ain 't that the truth ! ;D Just like D-shot ( hook above sinker ).
  5. American airlines has flights to MacAllen and Sugar Lake is a stone cast away.
  6. but you seem respectful enough to come and ask permission We were right weren 't we ? I told you, you had nothing to loose and a lot to win, who knows, maybe your next PB is lurking in that little pond.
  7. and have gotten some huge explosions on the surface Carp do run away from lures with huge surface explosions, specially when the bait is right over their head. They almost look too big to be bass. Carp grow to gigantic proportions.
  8. Higher gradings mean better quality ( more density, less grain ) and in the long run it means more durability and less wear prone, the cork won 't fall appart with time.
  9. You are not going to ask knocking at every door, I would go and knock on the first door and POLITELY ask who the homeowners association president is, then I would talk to him and ask if there would be any problem to submit my request to the homeowners association and you start from there and be ready to cultivate something that 's very hard to cultivate: patience. It may take a very long time before your request is accepted or denied. But you 're not in a rush are you ? You 've got more to gain than to loose.
  10. The old Cherokee chief sat in his reservation hut, smoking the ceremonial pipe, eyeing the two US government officials sent to interview him. Chief Two Eagles, one official began, you have observed the white man for many generations, you have seen his wars and his products, you have seen all his progress, and all his problems. The chief nodded. The official continued, Considering recent events, in Your opinion, where has the white man gone wrong? The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute, and then calmly replied. When white man found the land, Indians were running it. * No taxes. * No debt. * Plenty buffalo * Plenty beaver * Women did the work * Medicine man free * Indian men hunted and fished all the time. The chief smiled, and added quietly, White man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.
  11. The worst thing that could happen if you ask for permission is that you don 't get it, but you don 't ask you 'll never know for shure. But on the other hand, the fact that there are no signs saying "no parking" or "no trespassing" doesn 't mean it 's fair game and anybody can enter, that shure is a way of getting into trouble. The problem with that type of communities is that everything is handled by a home owners association and like always, when several people have to agree on something it 's the mayority the one who wins but doesn 't mean those who disagree will be satisfied with the decission if the association grants you some priviledges.
  12. You could start by getting rid of gators and water turkeys. Funny, probably be alot easier to just move to California. Actually, what makes those big cali bass really big ? Very little or no predators, human or animal. In Florida the food source is there in the form of native fish but also of non native fish like exotic panfish ( tilapia, oscars ), exotic varieties of livebearers ( like guppies, mollies, swordfish, platies ) that have escaped from the fish hatcheries after the hurricanes that hit Florida every year. So why don 't you see the big fish ? Predators: 1.- People that don 't release the fish 2.- Alligators 3.- Water Turkeys 4.- Monster sized gar. Sooner or later if it 's not one then it 's the other.
  13. What Flechero means with widespread availabilty is that Megabass rods aren 't really THAT hard to find, it 's more a question about you shelling out the big bux for one. Megabassusa usually has a good assortment of rods ( most propular models ), and if that don 't work then Plat does. Other brands like Evergreen ( Temujin series ), Gan Craft, JDM Fenwicks, JDM AbuGarcia, BaitBreath ( Evola rods ) are a lot harder to find and some are only built on special order.

  15. Eagle Claw #1/0-2/0 R bend hooks.
  16. The CR723 has been my everyday jig n 'worm rod for years, however it has alawys given me the creeps to fish with it in denser woody cover, when faced in that situation I change to my flipping rod, a Shimano Clarus H Xtra Fast ........ with the subtle action of a pool cue , never been completely satisfied with it, it has the muscle but doesn 't have the sensitivity besides being very heavy :-[. Got a CR724 recently and I feel much better with it for that purpose, more powerful than the CR723 but not a pool cue like the Clarus. So it depends what you want it for, if faced to fish heavy woody cover I would go for the MBR844, if not, then the MBR843.
  17. How is your Bait Casting reel setup? It depends on which one you are talking about.
  18. When you jump into the bandwagon of imports the last thing you even bother into to considering is the warranty, or like in my case, when there were no authorized dealers in the country it came with the territory, to me all rods were imports. Even now, only Shimano, GLoomis and Kistler have authorized dealers, if I purchase a StCroix I 'm on my own.
  19. Think about what you just said My Sw chug bugs are modified i drill a small hole in the tail end and put lead in it just enough to make it sit kinda upright at rest im thinking maybe a 1 oz and a half total lure weight Perhaps since no elite angler of the month was named for April, it should go to this guy, for absolutley the biggest BS of the month Oh my God Muddy ! that 's pretty darn funny ! ;D
  20. Berkley 's Sabertail Bug, Ecogear Bug Ants ( but if you can 't find those Berkely 's Hawg is pretty close ), Sweet Beavers my man, now if you think they are too big then Smallie Beavers do the trick, Baby Brush Hogs.
  21. I would start buy purchasing the rods and reels I have now instead working up my way up the ladder spending hundreds of dollars in gear I have already gotten rid of. I would not have purchased all the tackle I own now.
  22. If what you want is panàge in a rod what you need to do is to contact a custom rod builder that offers the service of those little uniqueness details you see in Japanese rods, like reels seats, guide inserts. If that is what you want then Mattman ( Matt Davis ) from Otterods is who you are looking for. Here 's a sample of what he does.
  23. www.lurenet.com I still have those 8 Frogs I purchased back in the early 90 's, pretty darn good bait. Not as pretty as the Type X from Megabass but still a fish catcher, I used to slain trout with it.
  24. Ain 't that the truth. ;D
  25. All I can say to anybody who hasn 't tried a Pixy, SORRY, no other reel can cast a weightless tiny Fluke into the next zip code without much effort. Now, back to the original question and to explain our friend here, there isn 't much point in finding out which reel can cast the farthest, it depends and the WR holder here ( Catt ) can tell us. It depends on many conditions some are in something you can 't control or modify ( like wind, pressure, remperature and such ) others are in things you can control or modify like the balance between line, rod power, action and length, the reel and the guy.
