  1. Give yourself, a few feet. At would say 5 to 6 ft or longer, its really up to you. You have to take into account the amount of time you will be changing of lures.
  2. Awesome find for $5. PP, I consider is a great braid. To answer your question ToddWChandler, it all depends on what type fishing you are going to do. IMHO, straight braid excels in many applications, however, in other applications using a leader will give you an advantage. For example, I have a spinning rig that has 20lb pp, and if I go to one of my spots that is a limestone lake with water as clear as a swimming pool, straight braid will not be my choice. In this case I would use a long FC leader. Another situation for me that I would use a mono leader for instance would be, when using a fluke or fluke type bait. I find mono gives these baits the fluidity it needs to move freely in the water. Tied on straight braid the lure moves to stiff for me. If your frogging, for example, straight braid is a must. Hope that info helps.
  3. ComfortablyNumb, good tip. I like that.
  4. I would have gladly, given it back to you. I know that good lures cost $$. Those guys were.... What rhymes with bricks?? ... you get my drift.
  5. Great for him!! He is finally first place!!
  6. Great fish. Congratulations on achieving a new PB!! I couldn't see it well, what did it measure?
  7. Nice tips, where is your pic of the 10lbr??
  8. KVD is the man, and no one will ever take that away from him. EE and AM are also great fisherman, and have been battling to be on top for years. I would be happy for either AM or EE if either of them win. They have paid their dues.
  9. Bass fishing has traditionally been slower during the summer months. So far this summer has not been any different. You have dedicated yourself to the jig and that's great. However, since I have been following your threads, you have landed less than handful. Although you did get some big bites that unfortunately became unbuttoned. When you canal fish, you have to also commit to cover a lot of ground. Canals all look the same, but when you walk them you will also notice that they are all not created the same. The cover changes in certain sections. Some areas has more pads, some has more grass, some has more rocks and humps. All those changes and sections will dictate where bass may be holding. I have preached this all summer to our fishing group, about focusing on culverts. Have you personally tried fishing culverts yet?? The majority of my big fish this summer have come from culverts. The jig is great bait, however, so is the frog and the fluke just to name a few. On the bright side, summer is almost behind us. Hopefully this year, we get a nice cool down.
  10. Sorry for the size mix up, this should help
  11. Let me see what I can do.
  12. I thought this would be cool to share. I took a pic of baby gator that resides at one of the canals I fish on. When I went to review the pic with my kids I noticed 2 bass below the gator. Enjoy the pic.
  13. Great hear it was simple fix. Now go enjoy that reel, its great.
  14. Although frogs are awesome to fish with. Not everyday is frog day.
  15. If it's spooled up and your pulling line out with a full drag, something is wrong. I have the exact reel and its awesome. On full drag you cannot pull line out. You might have to return it for a new one. Do not let this mishap, deter from using a Lews MG. You will regret it.
  16. Show the fish, who's boss when you lip them. Grab the lower lip firmly. Once they feel that pressure they settle down. Your grip is too loose.
  17. John, if the canals behind your house is freshwater, you will definitely have some nice fish lurking there. You are going to change that pretty soon for sure. Interesting you caught a bass on the saltwater side of a dam.
  18. John, google earth will be your friend. You live 2 hrs North of me. However, you will find a bunch of Florida guys on here. Some are closer to you. Your bass game is going to significantly improve now that you are on board with us. Especially if you have a canal in your back yard. I pulled out a nice 6lb,10oz bass out of simple looking canals 2 weeks ago.
  19. Hi John, I am also part of the Florida group with AK. What part of Fl are you from?? Your profile is very limited with info. Check us out in the SE section of local waters forum. Welcome.
  20. Brad H. Great story. Thanks. Yeah, they are scrappy, and mean looking. I would be terrified if I was in his tank also. LOL.
  21. Hi gang, since you enjoyed the last jaguar I caught, here is another one. This time I caught this one at night using a frog. He struck like a nice bass, but when I reeled him in and got a closer look, I was surprised to find him. He measured 15 inches. Enjoy!!
  22. I have seen this before as well. J.Franco said it best.
  23. Pretty simple Juan. Follow us on the bragging rights thread, its on this same forum page under local waters. You fish the whole month, and record your top 5 fish. We are recording by length. So make sure you have something to measure your fish with. Weights are also mentioned if she is a big girl. At the end of the month the individual with longest 5 fish is king of the hill for that month. We keep it friendly, and educational. You have to provide, general location (not the actual spot if you don't want to), what baits you used and how, and time of the day. Take a picture, and post. Big fish of the month is also recognized. We would love to have you on board. Any question just ask, and we will be more than happy to guide you.
  24. Code is alright. I used one for a while.
  25. The more tools you have at your disposal I believe will increase your diversity as angler.
