  1. It's an ice fishing transducer. No way to mount it that I see. I hoped they made a separate transducer that might work with this unit but it doesn't sound like this will happen. My only option (I can think of) is to buy a second ice 35 transducer and seal it to the bottom of my hull. But I doubt I'll do that.
  2. Well, it looks like ice fishing is probably going to be rather limited (if it occurs at all) this year. Rats! I have a Humminbird ICE 35 flasher that was purchased for ice fishing but it would probably make a good all purpose "fishfinder" if it had a different kind of transducer (either transom mount or under trolling motor). I cannot seem to find such an animal. Any thoughts?
  3. I recommend an official Red Ryder Carbine Action two-hundred shot range model air rifle. But make sure it has the compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.
  4. Was wondering if you could tell me what the difference in action between a deep diving husky jerk and a deep diving X-rap is? It's possible you've never used either (deep diving version, i mean) but maybe you knew...
  5. I've heard it said that labeling them can have a detrimental effect on their self-esteem.
  6. Don't know if he's a pro so much as a "celebrity" but Mark Zona might be fun to fish with (if he stays on his meds). jk
  7. Murphy's law being what it is, I'd say this project will probably take a LOT of time and a LOT of money. These days, especially with the economy in the tank, you can find a lot of boats for sell. Look around. Also, depending upon the condition of the trailer, just getting it back might be a nightmare. You'll need legal trailer lights and good bearings and good tires to boot. Do you have a flatbed trailer you can load it on?
  8. Hey guys, Sorry it's taken so long to respond. And thanks for your responses. Unless they are very cleverly hidden, I see no filters of any kind whatsoever on this fridge. If one exists, where would it be (it's a kenmore fridge)? I suppose it could be minerals clogging the line somewhere but there is no evidence of any deposits anywhere. I've not checked for voltage yet. If it's not getting voltage, what next? Where is the relay switch on a Kenmore?
  9. Do NOT rely on the word of the DNR, fire department, or any other government agency to tell you whether the ice is safe or not. In any given region, there are too many bodies of water and too many variables to reliably predict it's safety and it's you, alone, who should ensure that it is safe to tread upon. Even within a single body of water there can be underwater springs, currents, culverts, etc. that affect the thickness and strength of the ice. There are many good articles on ice safety so I won't repeat the information here.
  10. Can anyone provide any rational reasons why a relatively "no-frills" double barrel shotgun costs at least 2 or 3 times what a pump or semi-automatic does? This phenomenon appears to be akin to the cost of a simple fly reel I appreciate that there are two barrels which would increase material costs to the product but they are considerably less complex (especially compared to a semi-autos). I've been thinking of getting one but looking at what one has to pay, I'm reconsidering.
  11. I know just enough, sometimes, to be dangerous so please forgive any follow on questions in advance. I bought a used refridgerator. It runs fine (gets cold) but the water dispenser and ice maker are not getting water up to them. I checked the solonoids (1 for each function) for continuity and they appear to be fine. There is water pressure in the line leading to the connection but stops after that. I've checked for fuses and/or circuit breakers (none found) and I'm at a complete loss to identify what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I have a pro qualifier and a "previous generation" Carbonlite reel. Apart from the latter being a few ounces lighter, I can't tell much of a difference. I'm happy with both.
  13. the same, I think.
  14. If you are asking whether the "pincers" should be separated, than yes, I generally do that. But I've also forgotten and caught fish too. If you're asking if the little plastic tabs need to be removed, I don't think it affects the action much.
  15. Instead of "cheap", the proper word should, IMO, be "affordable." Several people have espoused to spending high dollars on high end baits. I respectfully disagree. Those baits may "last a lifetime" but if you fish them often enough, the lions share of that "lifetime" is going to eventually be in the crotch of some submerged tree or wedged between rocks 15 feet down. Many of those baits are in the category of "If you have to ask about the price, you can't afford them." And you can scarcely afford to fish them. There are plenty of quality mid-ranged baits that serve equally well (or nearly so) and won't break the bank. May favorite quality crankbait which generally isn't too expensive is Rapala. You can often find them on sale if you are patient. If you want a really inexpensive bait that will almost always catch bass, I'd go with plastic worms or craws. Just be prepared to replace them when they get torn up.
  16. As some have already said, I don't have to strategize for getting skunked. It just comes naturally. Sometimes TOO naturally. Weedlines and weedy flats will almost always hold some bass. If your area of the country still has some vegetation, I'd try there. Concentrate less on the bait and more on the location.
  17. I think it was Linus from Peanuts who once asked, "Would diamonds still be valuable if they looked like raisins?"
  18. It would probably be a lot easier for someone else to identify my weaknesses. But I'd say fishing deep water and finding/staying on deep channels is definitely a weakness. Also, my buddy says I'm lousy with boat control. Then again, he likes to keep moving down a lake whereas I like to stop and/or anchor if I think a spot warrants it.
  19. Which is why I hoped to limit the strength to just ONE. God knows there are some narcisists out there.
  20. My main complaint would be that someone can register so close to the actual event. But that is something you'd have to take up with the club or organization. I do feel it's a bit unfair that someone who has already "arrived" at the a higher level can compete in such a way as to make it harder for "lower echelon" performers to reach the next level. But this is just one of many reasons why I'll never fish a tourney where money is involved.
  21. You know you're NOT a die-hard bass fisherman if you mistake a Powerpole for either a Polish superhero or a new brand of a "male enhancement" product
  22. The bait monkey will NOT be happy with you!
  23. Describe one thing you do that helps you catch bass that others miss. For me, it's that I am pretty good at working a spot thoroughly. A buddy told me that since we've been fishing together, he's learned that there really are fish in areas that he would ordinarily would have made just one or two casts to and then moved on. Now, we will make repeated casts (sometimes as many as 10 or 12) to a likely looking spot from all angles before moving on. There's a certain pleasure in catching a bass which didn't bite on the first 7 casts. Note: I don't work every place as hard as this. But if it's a good looking spot, I'll saturate it before I move on.
