  1. In very stained water I almost always use very dark blue or black OR very bright colors. But usually it's the former.
  2. If I make a comment on a thread, the computer/website/whatever(?) insists upon inserting that comment into OTHER threads as well. I'm sure it is trying to make my life easier but it is not. Have I fiddled with a setting I should not have? Or maybe it's just in the same thread. But either way, it's unwanted.
  3. You obviously have not seen the pallet loads of food some people shove in their mouths. ; )
  4. Burning or LEAKING? The only cars that "should" burn anywhere near that much use rotary engines and I don't think Subarus use them. If they have problems with burning oil, they probably either have gasket problems or worn rings (or both).
  5. Have you removed the locking plate first before attempting to remove the nut? The nut won't turn without doing this first. Never mind, if it's a spinning reel, this won't apply. You SHOULD just have to hold the reel to keep it from turning than turn the reel handle backwards. OR, if it is like some reels, you might remove the "cap" on the other side and that either unscrews the reel handle OR by doing so, it gives you access to the screw that does secure the handle.
  6. Reading about him now. Quite a collection!
  7. Yowza! .... Just...Yowza!
  8. 'Cause I've been thinkin' of starting just a Rat-l-trap collection (new and old). That alone would probably keep me busy (and broke).
  9. What is the largest private bait collection you have ever seen? Besides collecting insects (of which there are THOUSANDS and thousands of species), one could almost never run out of new lures to find. The sheer number of Musky baits alone is mind boggling.
  10. It's hard to keep the frogs away in the spring... and they are faster than you think. i once had accidentally cast over a tree branch with a rat and was yo yo'ing it up and down trying to free it when a frog (which I hadn't seen prior to this) leaped up vertically about a foot to try to grab it. Fortunately, it missed but it scared the begezus out of me.
  11. The bowfin I caught bit hard and fought hard. I was glad it shook off at the boatside, though.
  12. Large bass...(?!) You're making a lot of assumptions there, cowboy. ; ) BUT the largest bass I've caught this summer was taken with a brown and orange skirted spinnerbait.
  13. Usually only VERY big fish should be able to manhandle you as much as you are describing-in which case you don't have my sympathy! Just kidding! Among other things, if you can hold your rod and rod tip out further out over the gunwale, this will change the angle the fish can use (or not use) to rub the line against the boat. A longer, stouter rod can help with this. And, J Francho suggests, if you need to, plunge the rod down into the water.
  14. Actually, I deleted my first response BECAUSE it is a family friendly site.
  15. SOMETHING pretty major is going if it is spinning in circles. Either the lip is bent, chipped, or broken or something else pretty major has occurred. USUALLY a close inspection will reveal what. You might check the line tie also. Maybe something is gong on there.
  16. There is no wrong choice-particularly since the size difference is so miniscule. You will be happy with the baby torp, too. I wouldn't worry excessively about making the wrong choice-unless you went for some monstrous musky-size bait.
  17. I didn't see any prop baits in your list. Gotta get yourself a devil's horse or a baby torpedo (or several of each). It is a prop bait... but only kinda sorta. A torpedo, for instance, has a much different "action" than a Whopper Plopper. Both have their place but google the Heddon Torpedo and you'll see what I mean.
  18. I didn't see any prop baits in your list. Gotta get yourself a devil's horse or a tiny torpedo (or several of each).
  19. The ONLY thing I have against very thin braid is that it can act like mono and wrap around itself-more or less like line twist. But on spinning gear, it will cast farther.
  20. It seems the older I get and the less food agrees with me, the more "random noises on the water" there seems to be.
  21. So, there will be a split cable (white and red) on one end and a small "male" mp3 plug on the other? If so, it seems pretty easy to me. Thanks for the help.
  22. On one pond I fish, I found 2 zara spooks-one on the waters edge and one on "dry" land down from the spillway. Somebody out there is minus two zara spooks. A few weeks ago I picked up a ziplock bag from the waters edge and there were two crankbaits inside. NOT a great method for carrying baits on a windy day.
  23. Has it ACTUALLY shipped yet? If not, Amazon at least, will allow you to cancel.
  24. I'm the kind of guy who, if you tell me some place is YOUR spot (when I got there first), I will stay there all the longer-whether I catch a $#^& thing or not. Heck, I might spend the whole blessed day there!
  25. Actually, I've been informed that an MP3 players is just BARELY getting into the 21st century. I don't have a smart phone as morbid curiosity has kept me wondering how long my current flip phone will last. (It has a hand crank on the side for making calls).
