  1. I didn't rage over it but the passenger in the car did. I was driving his AMC gremlin (I think he was tired) and I was turning left onto a side road. In order to "beat" an approaching car, I had to gun it a bit. Unfortunately, in doing so, I dumped a bucket of minnows all over the floor and onto his legs and feet. Like I said, he "raged" about it for a bit. (I thought it was kinda funny). Authors note: It was funny because it was at the END of the day and not the beginning.
  2. This one can be all over the board because there are SO many possible scenario's. BUT for the early spring in flats, I will often go to a jerk bait (such as a Shadow Shad Rap) and fish as slowly (pauses) as the water temp dictates. I've done so well it's difficult to try anything else.
  3. It's very possible. I know that I get a heart attack anytime I hook a fish that large (rarely).
  4. I'm generally a fan of MOST Berkley products but Fireline Crystal is like spooling up with dental floss and the knots hold ability is dreadful (the ones I've tried anyway).
  5. I have mixed feelings and, therefore, will probably have a mixed response to this thread. If I had someone CONSTANTLY crowding me when the fishing gets good, I'd probably ask them (nicely) to give me some space and find some of their own water. But the appropriate space distance between friends will (or should) be smaller than that of strangers. And it MAY be that he has no idea that what he is doing even offends you. But it's just a fish, after all. There will be other occasions and other fish. But finding a good, reliable fishing buddy can be harder than finding a girlfriend (or boyfriend). Do you REALLY want to muck it up by getting petty? If it bothers you, let him know (politely). If he respects your wishes, problem solved. If he doesn't respect them, he probably has boundary issues anyway and do you really want to be around such a person? On the OTHER hand, there are people who can commit all kinds of atrocities and I'm able to overlook them while OTHERS can simply sneeze and it'll drive me bat guano crazy. Is he one of these kind of people?
  6. Saw a bunch of bass cruising the shoreline this past weekend. After 5 minutes, I gave up on them. I knew they weren't going to bite. They never do. My advice: fish for the bass you CAN'T see. You'll at least stand a chance with them.
  7. That's funny. When I'm on the lake, I daydream about work. Yeah, right!
  8. Perhaps it's carma. More than ONCE have I sat in a doctor's waiting area long after my scheduled appointment time.
  9. or a pickup - for helping people move.
  10. Not ever happy to see any store go under but Gander Mountain's business model didn't seem to make much sense. RARELY did the local store ever have more than a smattering of cars in the parking lot and when I asked an employee, they said that most of their profits were in firearm sales-which is fine and dandy except they had ALL this overhead which HAD to be eating all their profits. They (Gander) never really seemed to be "hungry" to make sales.
  11. Ever since Rapala purchased Storm, there seem to be two different trends: SOMETIMES they will put their Rapala) name on a bait that clearly looks like a Storm product (i.e., the crankin' Rap) and sometimes they seem to let the "division" remain "autonomous" (retaining the Storm badge). I'm no businessman but I'd be interested to know what drives their decisions and, really, how well the acquisition is working out for them. I assume their goal was toward diversification.
  12. It beats the heck out of obsessing over how/where you're going to get your next "fix" or how your neighbor has a nicer car than you do. (Now, if it's a boat, that's a different story).
  13. When I go stripper fishing, I carry a lot of ones.
  14. I fish, therefore I am...broke. I could provide a lot of reasons such as time out in nature, the challenge, etc and none of these things are incorrect but I think it most offers me the opportunity to get out of my own head while I am pursuing my "adversary."
  15. My opinion (for what it is worth) is that "match the hatch" is more critical (sometimes) as the water becomes really clear and/or when the bass become particularly selective about what they are feeding on. This seems to be most true when there is a preponderance of a certain food source. I have not conducted any scientific research but, after a cold front has swept through and there are "bluebird skies", I can almost bank on having a tough day. I've seen it too often to believe otherwise.
  16. Greetings! Whereabouts in Central Illinois are you from? I hail from East Central Illinois myself.
  17. How about "Bobber stop"?
  18. Is that what they are calling it these days? ; )
  19. Yeah, what fish?
  20. I, too, suspect a mole.
  21. I never studied metallurgy but I would guess that the hotter the lead is (when it has expanded as much as it "can') the more it will contract (and the tighter it will grip) when it cools. Or am I completely off base? Anyone?
  22. Granted, your goal is probably not to get rich but during the gold rush, with few exceptions, it wasn't the miners who got rich. It was the merchants who sold them their picks, shovels, candles, etc.
  23. Color and hue and value don't matter at all-until they do. Which is why, when a buddy and I are fishing together, I usually use something different than him/her until we can figure out if it does matter or not.
  24. Nunchuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills... I'm training to become a cage fighter.
  25. USAF (1987 - 1991). (I flew a desk)
