  1. Not a direct answer BUT the best place I've found to buy healthy wax worms is Pet Smart. The ones I've found at other places are usually pretty sorry looking.
  2. As long as we're "allowed" to have a free market economy, this won't occur. I use BPS less and less all the time.
  3. My mom says I must have been raised in a barn.
  4. It's a subspecies-known as the "Scut Farkus" bass.
  5. The older I get, the less likely I am to lug a bunch of gear around. Of course, in my boat it is less of an issue but when I'm bank fishing, I'll carry one spinning rod and, usually, one bait caster. Sometimes it will be two spinning rods-with one being a little stouter and heavier line (or vice versa). I carry, usually, one soft tackle box with all my soft plastics and one hard box with a little bit of everything else. Or sometimes just a backpack with a "plethora" of smaller baits. Like most people, I will usually have lures already tied on BUT I try not to let that dictate what techniques I'll be using. If it works from the git go, that's great but often times I'll switch out-hopefully based on the knowledge I've amassed over the years. But sometimes simply because I want to try something in particular. I still like to catch fish and it is still a major objective but I've caught enough fish over the years to be content with just trying what I want to try.
  6. Yoda: "Do or do not. There is no "try.""
  7. I have a pretty good collection of shallow and deep diving Shadow Raps already (which I like very much) and the RipStop just seems too close in design and action for me to "diversify" to such a small level. IF I find a good sale on them, I'll probably pick one or two up but at their current price...they will likely remain on the shelf.
  8. Are you SURE you are using the correct fastener? It's easy, when grabbing loose parts to use one (which works) but then the remaining (wrong) one for the last application, won't. If this makes any sense. USUALLY stripped threads become obvious by the user-such as cross-threading, using too much force to turn the screw and then..."crums!" I don't know what you are securing onto what but usually the covers are held firmly in place (by a screw and a metal post) rather than itself actually being screwed INTO. Graphite is rarely used for securing screws.
  9. I don't tournament fish so I can't (and don't want to) compare myself with other fishermen. On some days when things are going well and the fish are cooperating, it's tempting to call myself pretty good. On rough days, however, when I can't buy a strike...not so much. I have only my past self to compare who I am today. And even THAT viewpoint is biased as I now have a boat and can (somewhat) afford to fish lakes which have respectable populations of fish-whereas in the past I had to just settle for what I could get from the bank or on pressured public lakes (or both). I DO remember a time when it was not at all uncommon for me to muster up just one or two bass. And a skunking was not at all unheard of. Nowadays, this is more rare-though it still happens.
  10. Sorry. That was the bait monkey speaking. : )
  11. A decent pair of ski bibs is probably all you'll need. Get some with several pockets because it's hard to dig underneath them for keys, glasses, etc.
  12. Watched it on TCM last week. That IS one of the most disturbing movies I've seen. It goes from bad (horrible) to worse several times.
  13. I think it's better to not know how to swim but take all the necessary precautions (secure, well fitting lifejacket, kill switch, safe boating, paying heed to the weather, etc) than to know how to swim and be reckless in your boating/fishing practices. I can swim but I look like a giant egg beater thrashing through the water. I'm sure I expend twice as much energy as someone who knows how to swim well.
  14. Look at it like this: You've gotten the requisite scratches out of the way and now you can just relax and fish with it. Really the only way to avoid scratches is to not use it.
  15. "Flipping" is a euphemism used in polite company. "Pitching" is what you do with a tent or in horseshoes.
  16. To borrow from Shakespeare: "Full of sound and fury-signifying nothing."
  17. Actually, I hadn't noticed that. Thanks!
  18. What was the significance of the salt/red smoke trail in the final long battle scene of the movie? I could understand if they were using it as a smoke screen that was largely ignored. It all just seemed...unnecessary. Overall, the movie was entertaining. Last one was better though. As was Rogue One.
  19. Ha! Do you mind if we call you "dual bag"?
  20. Ah! Do ALL auto inflating vests have these? I bought a gander mountain vest a handful of years ago and was only aware of the CO2 cartridges needing occasional replacement.
  21. I, too, am sorry for your loss. I hope you had a long life of good memories with him.
  22. That's why I shave with the lights off.
  23. I must be a dumb *(&^$ too. What are "pills"? The C02 cartridges?
  24. They don't seem to be sold in any of the haunts I frequent. Are these marketed to specific locales? They look really sweet! Will have to go online, I guess. I'd sure like to give one a go.
