  1. I managed to get out with a buddy for 3 hours Monday . My linker 4-3 came on a ribbit top toad at weed edge, the only top water we got. My buddies 5-1 lunker came on a purplish creature thing fished weightless around some stick ups. We caught almost 30 between us. most were between 2 and 3 lbs. i went thru a complete package of pb and j rage structure bugs , then went to june bug color. i still like the rage craw but the structure bug has been hot for me this season when i do get a chance to get out and fish, pb and j , june bug and pearl white.
  2. just secured myself a vehicle. now to figure out fresh or salt and where to go to fish
  3. very nice

  5. i have 3 types , thin non insulated chest waders warm water, neoprene insulated colder water , and a set of hip type non insulated. Mine all come from Cabelas using my Cabelas points so they were free. They are awesome, just 3 different applications. pick the one that fits you best. and i agree with everything posted before. cold , warm , leaches , i use them in many places. ever considered a float tube ? use the waders with the tube. I use 2 Cabelas cards and earn 1% of every $ i use them for. I use it for everything. and pay it in full every month so i have never had to pay interest. I use them for my business and put over $95,000 on them last yr. It only earns 1% but it works for me. I got about $950 worth of free stuff last yr. the yr before about the same amount. will be higher this yr. as long as you pay it in full every month its worth it , at least to me it is. 6. Jitterbug, you should be pulling out a new personal best pretty soon. Send MaineBass a PM. Let him know the area you are in, i am sure he will give you a few inside tips on places to go in your area if he knows the area. Small water can = Big lazy bass. I am sure in a short time you will find yourself a fishing partner with something that floats and seats 2. Study hard , enjoy college but even a straight A top of the class student such as yourself need to relax, unwind and fish.
  7. still doing some looking, about a 45 minute drive to ocean. I dont know what to expect. Never been there, and the relatives have only been there 6 months.
  8. Jitterbug, you need to find a way to fish up in Maine.
  9. I live in NH. I am headed to S.C. Blue Rock dr area of Longs in mid Oct. Looking to try to do some fishing while we visit relatives who moved there less than 6 months ago, I do not know the area. Going to google it now but asking for some info. I will not have any boat available. The relatives i am visiting do not fish. any canoe or kayak rental places ? I could possibly but a cheapo depot version. Any bass fishing in this area? Pike , Pickerel ? Should i be heading to the ocean ? any idea how long a drive to the ocean ? On google i dont see any big water, I have no problem fishing small water. Thank You for any help.
  10. How do you like that PowerPole Micro the pole works awesome now, after a few different trial styles i got it to where i want it. stable simple easy. the pole is about 13 ft. 2 sections. it is a fiberglass ham radio antenna pole. total cost about 70$ including the mounting system i made from aluminum angle.
  11. i almost got myslef a paddle board, stuck with just the 2 canoes. i see a few guys using paddleboards around here and they seem to do it ok. all have their reasons or advantages and drawbacks. i use use my canoes more than the 14 footer flat decked with 25 hp motor only because i like fishing small carry in water,
  12. you can get started with a basic yak, basic paddle and decent life vest for under 300$ if you pay attention to some sales at places like Dicks and Sports Authority. you dont need big unless you are up in the 275 lb range or bigger. My first yak was from Sports Authority. $209 with email coupon they sent me. (also ask about faded ones that have been outside or scratched ones--- ask for a discount) I MYSELF PREFER a single wood paddle over a yak double sided paddle $18-$25. A decent life vest if you catch the sales (right now at Bass Pro) $19.95. not the cheap orange uncomfortable one, a decent vest version. some rope, 25 feet is usually enough for bass fishing, an old barbell or weight for an anchor. if you dont have one phone a friend. 10 lber is enough. I also prefer sit on top over sit in There ya go , get started on the cheap. Well under $300 bucks.
  13. pretty much the same as most everyone else. fishing is the break from everything else. typically quiet , relaxing , enjoyable , catching or not. I did go thru this with hockey, i had been playing so much for so long that it became no longer enjoyable. I took an almost 2 yr break from hockey, now i am back to playing 4 to 5 mornings a week and enjoying it again. however , fishing has not come to the point where i get to do so much that i dont enjoy it. for someone retired and nothing else to do fishing might eventually become not so enjoyable. in 20 yrs when i am 75, retired and nothing else to do i will let you know.
  14. I fish from my 10 ft 33 pound old town pack canoe. I used a yak before i got this canoe and i loved to fish from them. This canoe same thing. small water , easy in easy out, i can carry and load it by myself in 5 minutes, MOST OF THE TIME I AM ALONE ON THE WATER. I enjoy fishing small water and getting to many places that no one else fishes. I outfitted mine with some extras., fish finder (very small 12 v battery), stab in anchor , comfortable seat , working deck , 4 rod holders. the last pic has the trolling motor mounted on it , which i rarely use except when i am on one of the bigger bodies of water. battery goes in front for ballast.
  15. Nice fish there Cam , and nice yak too
  16. greenish rage craws and rage bugs. i have had good luck with black lizards also i fish a lot of them weightless.
  17. i spray cranks and every other stuff i use with bass attract or something of the such before i use them for fishing. Many many different types of sprays and attractants that kill any odor on the plugs before using, including our people smell , cigarettes for those who smoke , gas , oil etc.... as far as changing the finish of the lure, possibly debatable but i say no. not unless you are letting it soak for a long time in fresh chlorine.
  18. great info Thank You. Just gathering insight from people with personal experience with different units.. Likes , dislikes , wants , etc. ( i have no use for the gps or the link capability but it looks like all higher end units have it. ) easibilty of use , P.I.A stuff . size matters. i am thinking 7 inch minimum
  19. yup 15 people up to 5 bass each, Pickerel 10 fish each and baitfish 25 per person of each species up to 50 fish. who catches what is not know by me. everything seems legal , just not ethical, would be tough to prove any wrong doing. They are really having a bad effect on numbers of fish on several small ponds in my area.
  20. We have some of the same problems around here at a few local ponds. Unfortunately most of it is legal , ethical is a different story. We have a family that comes down to a few small local ponds , a family of about 15 sometimes. they catch it they keep it. Usually they have a couple boats that they carry and then a bunch fish from shore. Between them they have easily taken 100 baitfish several times that i have seen them , as well as any bass and pickerel they catch, big med small does not matter. I cannot prove anything but i think they come the night before and drop a bunch of dog/cat food in mesh bags with one of the boats and then come back in the morning and fish it. As a guy that is up and on the water at 5am i see them them many Sunday mornings and they are gone by 7 am with full buckets and coolers. They are fishing out a couple of the smaller ponds in my area. Unfortunately what they are doing is legal, except for possibly the dropping of food for chumming, although that may be legal in NH. Too many nice bass i have seen taken. Assuming everyone over 16 has a valid license to fish.
  21. my thinking is only for finding fish and structure and getting the best read of what is there. no gps needed , no linking to another unit needed. -- i know they will probably have it anyway, but just for overall fish and structure finding and looking. best image , and we are talking large and small mouth lake and river fishing. no need for 200 feet down. just opinions from people who own and use them as recreational fishermen like most if us here, and i am guessing opinions will vary. negatives and positives 7 inch screen ? 9 inch ?
  22. there are bass in so many places small overlooked places. dont tell too many people. and never pass up a chance for a few casts anywhere. i have found some nice places that most people would not bother to fish.
  23. if i was to get another unit it would be a bigger screen version for sure.
  24. this is the board set up i had in my kayak, i transferred it to my 10 ft old town canoe. small 12 v battery , humminbird down and side model 598, craigslist find. yes , get one. then learn how to use it. i know so many people who have them and only use them for temp and depth. yet they spend $500 on one. they are extremely useful for finding underwater structure where the big girls hide and wait.
