  1. I fish the Nashua river lots, its convient for me andI like fishing the river but its a lot of water to fish , Same with the Merrimack. a lot of guys dont like fishing rivers. Too much area to cover. I fish it probably 50 times a year, sometimes 4 or 5 mornings a week. I just work my way up the river to spots that i have found fish and keep looking for areas that look like the habitat should have fish. For the past 2 years i have been fishing it heavy. I usually get on the water about 5 am for 2 1/2 to 3 hours and get to work by 8:30. Because i only have a small motor or canoe i dont get too far up the river into the Hollis area, where many people say the best fishing is. My PB 6lb 1 oz came out of the Nashua river last year. Its is a lot of area to cover.
  2. Backwood , what state or area are you from? I would target both inlet and outlet. and any drops you can find. If you can find a drop , I like to go almost weightless cast past the drop and very slowly bouncing it toward the drop till it drops. First you have to find the drops. Many times i find those drop is only 2 or 3 feet. Up here in NH a lot of water still has ice except in the southern part, except for the rivers. but the water is still very cold. I was up at Turtle pond in Concord NH with the boat on Wed and all the ice is gone. No fish but nice and relaxing and quiet. was just me and my beverage. I am far from an expert fisherguy these are just my experiences , most of which i learned from other guys here at this site. Before 2 summers ago i had never fished with rubber worms , i threw jitterbugs , poprs and cranked different sized and colored flatfish. i literally had 10 colors and sizes of 3 lures and pretty much that was all i used. I have gained so much knowledge thru this site and these guys here.
  3. Mike what did you fish with at the Nashua river? from a boat or shore? did you fish around the island areas ? Did you see any green starting to grow yet?
  4. I know of some places to put a boat in , Behind Greeley park in Nashua , Behind the Stadium in Manchester , and then theres the launches in Concord. Are there any other between Concord and Nashua other than behind the Ball Park in Manchester either with the trailer and jon boat or carry the canoe or even the kayak?
  5. I posted looking for some info last year but never followed thru with trying to catch them. My son and i want to catch some Walleye and a big Pike this year. We live in Nashua and remember someone posting Walleye in the Merrimack river , Goffs Falls area, Where can i Launch a Jon Boat on a Trailer? Any other spots to catch either of these fish in the Nashua area? I am going to plan a trip to the CT river for a day. What town will i find a launch?
  6. I like a white rage craw or the new rage lobster right now fished almost weightless. If you see any new vegitation starting to grow make sure you fish it. I have not seen any yet, but i dont have too many hours there yet. Usually it is gonna be in the bright sun areas. If my thinking is correct (understanding what i read) dead weeds suck up the oxygen but any green makes oxygen and fish want oxygen. The water is still cold so they are still relaxing but they still need to eat. Right around the island that you see to your left when you leave the launch gets lots and lots of sun. You will see the laying down trees and stumps sticking right up. I usually start there. Also a bright red crank bait also slow slow. The water is not deep there so i use a Manns shallow runner with a very small bill, they run only a foot or so deep This has caught me many pickerel around that island , but it is still early early in the season. Have fun and i hope you catch some fish. I may be there Sunday morning if these temps stay up a bit.
  7. anytime the ice is gone enough to fish
  8. There are 2 places i use to put the canoe , kayak or boat in the Nashua river. Behind Stellos there is an excellent boat ramp, from there i head left and go straight to the island and fish aound the island and the shore. and head up river from there. To the left of the island is tons of weeds, i fish them a lot with a white mouse or frog. Many days i will get no further than that island in 2 hours. Also off of broad st there is a left onto tilton st. there is another ramp there. because i have only a small motor and boat i do not get too far up river. The Nashua river is one of my favorite places to fish. BUT, river fishing can be tough. Lots of water, lots of area. If you can find fish in a huge river you can find them in any pond. I fish the Merrimack and the Nashua a lot. Smallies in the Merrimack , Largemouth in the Nashua. BIG Pickerel in both. I love catching big pickerel. I want to get to the CT river area and catch a big pike. I am also going to try to catch some walleye this year , but i dont know where yet. Many people say that the best rea of fishing the Nashua river is way up at the Hollis line. It takes me 25 minutes to get there with my little boat so i rarely get there to fish. Lots and lots of fish in the Merrimack river.
  9. will see what tomorrow brings, the canoe is loaded and ready for the river. Just picked up the new trolling motor battery. As long as it not too windy the Nashua river it will be.
  10. i agree the point that they will hit just about anything...
  11. what a difference 1 yr makes, i just looked back at posts from 1 yr ago. soft water, bass and pickerel.
  12. year round as long as i can get on the water. last year 2012 i caught a largemouth and a smallmouth every month of the year expect for december of 2012. In Jan and Fed in the canoe on the unfrozen Merrimack river i got smallmouth. The largemouth in Jan and Feb 2012 came from the dam at Stellos in the Nashua River. I did not get to fish very much in December because of work. This year I did not get out much in Jan and Feb. The fishing is slow, slow, slow , slow ,slow. Jigs with craw trailers , keels weighted ragetail craws , and small sized deep cranking bait that floats up when stopped cranking. With a big lip on the crankbait it dives to the bottom even slowly cranked, but i stop and let it float up and crank it slow again. the water i am fishing is rocky and the water is moving in the rivers. I have been fishing around the edges of the moving water. did i mention slow slow slow? This is what has been working for me with some success. All of the Nashua and Merrimack river main branches of water should be wide open. i dress warm , i expect to be a little cold, i bring hot coffee or tea, and i bring my fm radio to pass the time. 2 hours of relaxing time is worth the little bit of cold in my opinion. when the people look at me funny i just wave.
  13. Yes wide open and no ice. Around the area where the Nashua meets the Merrimack has been the most fish so far for me. All smallmouth. I fished a little under the bridge in the kayak but no luck there. I am hoping to try up in the concord area where the rivers come together around exit 17 soon. possibly this wed. Fishing is fishing. Even if i catch nothing , in my opinion i have not wasted time.
  14. The rivers Nashua and Merrimack are wide open, Slow fishing but the fish are there. Jigs with craw trailers. slow slow slow. Is the Contoocook river wide open also.
  15. The biggest i have caught there was a tad under 3 1/2 , My son caught one a tad over 4. A white colored Rage tail craw for him. Mine was a darker green with sparkles. We have not spent a lot of time there , and i would agree the place gets a lot of boat use. Early morning is when we get to do most of our fishing. We have mainly stayed to the left side looking at the water from the launch. Follow it way back and then go left as well. Keep following it way back left into all the weeds and pads. This is where we have done most of our fishing, in the weeds and pads. I am sure you will find more. There was a 4 there so i am sure there is bigger. Just have to find her momma. Spring time with higher water.
  16. i went to Foxboro once and Cabelas once both were fun to walk around for a bit. I prefer wildlife taxidery in manchester , northern bass supply and petes gun and tackle in hudson.
  17. nice ,, fishing is fishing... some good weather and some relaxing time it looks like to me.
  18. a 45 lb alligator snapping turtle, 2 shopping carts, several lines with lures attached, a mussell, a crab,a fishing pole, some kind of water snake on a floating frog, a 6 ft fresh water eel, a hockey goal.
  19. cant get out tomorrow with work. Hockey @ 6am then work @ 8:30. Will have to be Sunday morning. A lot of the Merrimack river is still wide open.
  20. I think this storm is going to mess up my chances of getting the kayak in the water this sunday. Was hoping to get time in.
  21. It was worth it, just getting out to paddle around the kayak for an hour.
  22. Skunked today in the kayak, fished where the Nashua river flows into the Merrimack for about an hour. Lots of rocky areas , slow moving water.
