  1. I think that was the worst call this year! There needs to be some common sense when you make a call like that, as MCS mentions in his post, it's a force play. If you watched the play the fielder or it may have been the pitcher was falling towards the third base line when he threw the ball to the catcher. The catcher anticipated the ball to be thrown on the third base side of the plate and leaned that way and gave a target, but the ball went the opposite way causing the catchers body to bascially "interfere" with the "path" to the plate...BUT AGAIN, IT'S A FORCE PLAY! Now you got me wound up... He should have had the perfect no-no, Hanley Remairez had time to make a good throw, but decided to hot dog it a bit. Man, you don't see pitchers twirl gems like that very often.
  2. 9 shut out innings, no decision. The story of the Sox season so far! The kid twirled a beauty for sure! Does anyone want the AL East! Toronto is giving it away, the Yanks will make the next push. The Sox need help in the outfield, but you never know with them, the Rays look dead, but still deadly and your O's need something to put them over the top, probably one more hitter away and possibly a bona fide closer. Fun isn't it?
  3. I was watching mlb network and they did a real nice tribute to him. I love the clip they kept showing of Gwynn helping Teddy Ballgame throwing out the first pitch at the all star game. Tony will be missed for sure. Hopefully there is a lesson to be learned about using dip. Although not officially the cause of his death, but none the less, he suffered in the end from it.
  4. Absolutely hate it. I think it took away from the game. Why make rules on a game that's been played for a century. Players play hard, let em play. The whole warning and ejection crap when a pitcher hits a batter has gotten out of hand as well. It's part of the game weather it's pitching inside to establish that part of the plate or when a guy hits a HR and showboats; staring or rounding the bases. If a batter does that, he better expect to get drilled in the @$$ the next time he steps in the box. The game can police itself.
  5. Oh BTW, I heading to the PawSox game tomorrow for father's day, isn't that the bomb!
  6. I know and it drives me crazy, I mean, I understand why, but man, some of those games push 4 hours! I'm all about the cerebral game that baseball is, but you have to admit, the game is way too long. Too many commercials, replay should not be in the game, heck, when the umps get together and talk about it they ususally do a good job of getting the call right. The article was really about pitching and the amount pitchers on a team. You don't see aces completing games like they did back then, the middle relievers are mediocre at best with some just facing a single batter and everyone is on a pitch count. I do think that the 5 man rotation was a good move, but again, do you seriously need a pitch count? I understand you're paying milions of dollars and you want to protect your investment, but heck, I'd want my money's worth too. For me, I can handle between 2.5 and 3 hours, basically from about the 5th inning on, and that's if it's not a blow out.
  7. Great article on how the game slowed down and possibly why participation is down: http://www.aol.com/article/2014/06/13/too-many-pitchers-too-much-time-not-enough-new-fans/20912020/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl13%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D488132 I thought it was a great read and well written.
  8. Congrats to you and your family. I'm sure your boy will be fine, but for some added insurance I'll be sending some thoughts and prayers your way Bud! Good Luck!
  9. THAT'S CRADLE THE BABY, HOMIE, NOT LADLE IT!...Oh never mind....Good luck Bud!
  10. Ahhh Man, I haven't done any fishing since last fall, so you know I'm ready to get out there, but I can't tell you how much I really emjoyed going to the field to coach and playing pepperball with the kids prior to the game. It started out as a couple of kids playing, but by the last game I had the whole team jumping in! Pepper: I know, I went retro, but what a fun way to loosen up prior to a ball game.
  11. I do have a pic of my son Dillon in front of a full figure statue of Teddy Ballgame!
  12. Just came back from Cooperstown and a weekend trip is not enough time to take in the whole experience. Will be going back for sure! Pics to follow in a day or so. I'm not gonna lie, it will be Red Sox heavy.
  13. Just wanted to close the thread by letting you know that the kids lost a best 2 of 3 playoff series tonight. The series went 3 games with all 3 games being close thrillers. Tonight we lost in the last inning 4-3. The last 4 or so regular season games and playoffs were incredible. The kids were coming to the field more excited to play and this playoff series had them believing in themselves. We, my 2 coaches and I, have gotten some really nice feedback from the other coaches, league board members and most importanly, the parents. I could not be more proud of these kids...Mission accomplished.
  14. Glavine grew up about 4 towns away from me. I never seen him play hockey but he could have went pro in that. I think he made a good decision tho.
  15. A Raider blog? I must ave missed something, what blog is this?
  16. This weekend I'll be in Cooperstown taking in the Hall of Fame with my family. My son and I can't wait!

  20. Well pull up a chair and lend an ear! Welcome aboard.
  21. Jar11591, are you still with us? You didn't jump off the bridge because of last night, did you? I kid I kid. Your starting pitcher was dealing last night, hard to believe all those errors commited at the end. You brought up another interesting thing about baseball; all the phases: A can of corn, I beleive was a soft fly ball to the outfield caught for an out Battery, the pitcher and catcher The dish, home plate The bump or the hill, pichers mound Ducks in the pond, players on base Chin music or high cheese, pitch thrown up and in to a batter The list goes on and on and I can't get enough of it...LOL
  22. I'm the same as you, just a general love for the game. On Father's Day I'll be at the Pawtucket (AAA) Red Sox Game with my wife and 2 kids. We're really looking forward to it! If you think about that Padres/Royals game you mentioned in your post, the 2 teams are about the same so it would more than likely be a real good game to watch!
  23. Seeing how you know so much about the Red Sox and you defended the free agency issue so well, it's not too late to join Red Sox Nation?!?!
